Give chaos a chance

It's been a week since the episode Keep Calm and Flutter On aired. (I kinda meant to post this a few days ago...)
In this time, I have seen a number of common complaints addressed at the episode since this time; the pacing, Celestia wasn't willing to actually give Discord a chance, they were just looking for an excuse to turn Discord back to stone, etc, etc. I write this now, to address some of these complaints.

The Pacing: Can't really disagree with this common complaint, the episode was rather rushed. Having this as a two-parter, maybe the Season 4 premiere, or even finale, likely would have been much more satisfying.

"Celestia just wanted to use Discord and didn't actually care about redeeming him!": Celestia offered Discord a chance to make himself useful in exchange for his freedom, considering that the last time he was free he almost killed off a large portion of Equestria, she would have been completely justified in tossing that statue into the sun instead. Oh, you don't think he was that much of a threat? Well, how well do you think that crops will be growing when the sun is constantly rising and setting and they only get watered with chocolate milk? Pinkie Pie might be able to survive on a steady diet of chocolate milk and cotton candy... but she's Pinkie.

"Nopony was willing to trust Discord!": ...And he proceeded to break his word while giving it, any distrust they had for him was not only completely justified by his actions in The Return of Harmony, but was immediately proven to be justified when he caused both the flooding of Sweet Apple Acres, but he then turned into a skating rink when asked to fix it.

"Discord's just doing what comes naturally to him! He's the spirit of chaos after all!": So? That doesn't mean he needs to endanger everypony else. Knowing Celestia's own prankster nature, he'll be allowed to sow as much chaos as he wants as long as noone gets hurt. We do call her Trollestia for a reason.
