Equestria Daily Rejection. Is it strange I'm happy? · 3:38am Dec 24th, 2012
So the other night I received my first rejection from EQD concerning my story Facing Fear. While some disappointment is to be expected, I am actually very happy about this rejection for two reasons.
To begin with, it represents the first real critique I have received for my pony fics thus far, and for that I wish to thank the pre-reader (though I know they'll probably never see this). They gave me some great points to focus on, and brought up all the little pieces (such as spacing and punctuation) which I try to pay attention to, but have a tendency to get lose track of after the first dozen pages or so. They revealed the ways in which I added repetition without meaning to and replaced names and pronouns with descriptors which, while intended to avoid the aforementioned repetition, simply made it appear as though I was padding my story out. These are all excellent points, many of which I completely failed to notice. Yet while this rejection shows I have a long way to go, at least I now have an outline for how to improve. I'm excited to begin revisions (as well as continue with Dimensional Crusaders), and only wish I had more hours in the day to write. Unfortunately I fear MCAT prep will probably limit those somewhat.
The second reason I am so excited for this rejection is because it has forced me to consider whether or not I want to keep going. Before today I have asked myself on multiple occasions whether I would view revisions as too daunting a task. Would I hear back from a per-reader and simply consider myself no good? Would I just give up? I was not so sure. Yet upon receiving this rejection, I now know what I will do! Given the time, I WILL revise and resubmit my story! And hopefully this experience will prevent me from making the same mistakes in future chapters.
As I go on, I will of course continue to ask anypony who reads my stories to give me feedback if they see fit. Hearing back from an EQD pre-reader is great, but I would prefer far more critiques. All comments are greatly appreciated, and extremely helpful. ;)
