On the Run (Sagwa) review · 6:17pm March 31st
"Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat" is known to be an underrated cartoon. It was based on the 1994 book by Amy Tan.
You know, every episode of the series is a love-it. But for me, it's not perfect, as there was one episode that is the absolute worst...."On the Run".
Sagwa and Fu-Fu wish to travel somewhere. But when their wish comes true, it turns out to be a scary village ruled by the Cruel Magistrate, who banishes cats for no real reason. What the actual heck?! But there was something even worse, the Cat Catcher is on the loose to hunt Sagwa and Fu-Fu down with a net. Plus, the dog and the cats of the cruel village don't do much here. Yes, they saved Sagwa and Fu-Fu from the Cat Burglar, but still. But the WORST part is the Cruel Magistrate and the Cat Catcher NEVER got severely punished for their actions, which sends out a awful moral saying it's okay for you to ban cats without any reason and to try and hunt them with a net. UGH! The ending tries to be a It's All a Dream ending, but it feels forced.
"On the Run" was the WORST episode of Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat IMO. I think the writers of good episodes like "Shei-Hu's Secret", "Tough Guy Dongwa" and "Firefly Night" regretted for this idea. Then again, every good writer has their duds. Moving on.
