    Full Story or Shared Stories

Which kinds of aus do you prefer?

Full story is, well, an au that's just one story.

Shared stories is one were the au is divided in several stories.

What new story should I write?

I know I'm already doing a little number called "Elementos of Redemption: Rising" but I feel like this is a question worth asking regardless.

What story would you like to see me give a shot at, now that the show's over?

Is Opaline the mother of Starlight Glimmer? · 1:35pm Oct 25th, 2023

So after being inactive for centuries, I Suddenly show up again with an interesting theory regarding Gen 5's mane villain, Opaline.

Now, Opaline has become something of a polarizing character for multiple Reasons, chief among them being the fact that she's the reason the tribes are at odds with each other in the new era.

So why not make it worse for her by connecting her to another polarizing character? XD

So my idea here is that Opaline, having lived in the past of G4, took some of the time before her eventual plan to breakdown societal relationships by mothering a certain unicorn that would eventually become an important character later in G4's Timeline, Starlight Glimmer. This sounds crazy, and that's kinda the point, but hear me out.

Starlight has always been an anomaly in terms of ponies, no least because of her absurdly high power level. Unicorns being strong in general isn't weird, that's just a consequence of them having direct access to a very varied pool of magical abilities.

An Unicorn being strong enough to tangle with an Alicorn? Now that needs an explanation, and what better one than have one of her parents be an Alicorn herself? Or at least, an Alicorn in disguise.

The comics show Opaline in what seems to be a Unicorn form. No wings, Horn only... Final destination.

Since there exists magic that allows a pony to change species, who's to say Opaline didn't transform into a Unicorn to better blend in society, snatch the attention of Starlight's father, and put up with him long enough to give birth to Starlight? But even with that thought, there's still one question: why would she go through all this trouble if her eventual goal was to disrupt social relationships between ponies?

That's precisely why.

Opaline's goal to cause racial tensions between ponies needed a clear base with some evidence, and Starlight was just that: a Unicorn being powerful enough to strike against an Alicorn and live to tell the tale is all the show the other tribes that there was a clear inequality among them, after all, can you see an Earth pony or Pegasus becoming strong enough to deal with an Alicorn and live? Probably not.

But wait, it gets better... Or worse, depending on how you look at it.

Twilight was an unicorn before her ascension into alicornhood. Her teacher, Celestia, was an Alicorn, and kept a close eye on her to prepare her for this ascension.

Starlight is also a Unicorn, and one strong enough to fight Twilight, who eventually takes her in as a student of sorts. While Gen 4 ends with Starlight still an unicorn, who's to say that Twilight wasn't planning to pull a Celestia and give Glim Glam alicornhood once she showed herself to be strong enough to attain it?

This, alongside Opaline's manipulations, would be enough for the Earth ponies and Pegasi to revolt, believing that the Alicorns, their godlike rulers who were meant to be a mix between all three tribes, were blatantly showing favoritism towards the unicorns, which would cause racial tensions to worsen rapidly, causing unicorns, Pegasi, and Earth ponies to be at each other's throats and snap, causing Twilight's era of peace to come to an end because of an unforeseen consequence of both her ascension, and the meddling of a Fire Alicorn in the background.

This still doesn't entirely fix Opaline's character or makes her interesting, but it does connect her to the past and makes some sense out of how a seemingly utopian Equestria could fall so easily.

So, what do you guys think? Is the theory good? Bad? Would you rather have had this theory be the case instead of what Gen 5 is building up to right now? Let me know in the comments below.
