Hwang Sun-woo wins sixth medal in final event of Games... · 7:19am Sep 29th, 2023

Hwang Sun-woo (황선우-Gangwon Provincial Office) won a silver medal in his final event of the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Hwang Sun-woo, who has helped spark a renaissance in South Korean swimming, ended his first Asian Games campaign with six medals.

South Korea's team of Ji Yoo-chan, Lee Ho-joon (Daegu Metropolitan Government), Kim Ji-hoon (Daejeon Metropolitan Sports Federation) and Hwang Sun-woo (Daejeon Metropolitan Sports Federation) finished in 3 minutes, 12.96 seconds in the men's 400-meter freestyle relay final at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China on Monday.

The Chinese team of Fan Zhanle, Chen Jianle, Hong Jinquan, and Wang Haoyu took to the water in 3:10.88 to set an Asian record, but were unable to beat Japan's team of Nakamura Katsumi, Matsumoto Katsuhiro, Tanaka Daikan, and Gomi Tomonobu (3:14.26).

South Korea had won only three bronze medals in the men's 400-meter freestyle relay at the Asian Games (Busan 2002, Doha 2006, Guangzhou 2010).

However, Hwang Sun-woo and the Golden Generation set a new Korean record and changed the color of the medal to silver.

Yang Jae-hoon (Gangwon Provincial Office), Lee Yoo-yeon (Goyang City Hall), and Kim Young-beom (Gangwon Chego), who competed in the morning qualification, also received silver medals.

Hwang Sun-woo won his sixth medal in the final event of the tournament.

The 'Ace of the Golden Generation' won a medal on the 24th in the 100-meter freestyle (3rd), the 25th in the men's 800-meter freestyle relay (1st), the 26th in the men's 400-meter medley relay (2nd), and the 27th in the men's 200-meter freestyle (1st) and mixed medley relay (3rd). They won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Hwang now ranks second on the list of Korean swimmers with the most medals at a single Asian Games after Park Tae-hwan, who won seven medals in Doha in 2006 and Guangzhou in 2010. 토토
