Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" (2019), the third installment of the MonsterVerse series. Now, this movie was an amazing treat to sit through; I personally find it to be a slight improvement over the two previous installments because it has better pacing, a more engaging storyline, more interesting characters, and an iconic villain to battle Godzilla. Not to mention that this film managed to give Godzilla some intriguing aspects to his character.

This film features eco-terrorists releasing the ancient rival to Godzilla named King Ghidorah unto the world. The alien monster calls all the other Titans around the globe which forces Godzilla and Mothra to face him and Rodan in battle with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.

Speaking of new monsters, I liked the additional characters in this film. I really wish Mothra had more screen time so that she can bond more with Godzilla. She has a really neat design. As for Rodan, he was pretty cool to look at. The way he was portrayed in the movie makes me think he's a crafty, sniveling beast who enjoys the thrill of battle. His design and appearance alone scream that type of personality. But he's also a coward--swearing loyalty to the victor whenever it is convenient for him.

Ghidorah, however, was a terrifying force of nature. The way he constantly overpowered Godzilla throughout the majority of the movie proves how powerful and skilled he is; there is a reason why he is the archenemy of our beloved lizard boy. I see Ghidorah as an extraterrestrial entity who clearly hates anything and anyone that isn't him. He would do anything to reverse the natural order and extinguish everything he considers as inferior.

The sound designs are flawless, the cinematography is great, and the acting is amazing.

Even though I found the characters more interesting, there were still some that were forgettable or insignificant. The soundtrack is pretty decent but not as good as that from the previous movies. But I will admit that I love the action sequences; the environment, the sound effects--executed perfectly!

I also found this film to be more emotionally impactful than the last two. We see Godzilla actually vulnerable and almost toward death for the first time which raises the stakes later on in the film. We see where he rests and rejuvenates and how he survived. But the part where Dr. Serizawa sacrificed himself to instantly increase Godzilla's recovery was immaculate; we've known him since the 2014 movie, and it's clear how much he respects and values Godzilla, so for him to give up his life by manually detonating a nuclear warhead was a very touching moment. That's why he's one of my favorite characters in this series.

Overall, I really enjoyed this film which is why I rate this a solid 10/10! If you wanna see Godzilla at his best, check out this movie.

Peace!

Great job, Mr. J

Makes Rodan into Kaiju Starscream.

Pretty much a love letter to the Godzilla franchise as a whole and a tribute to the original Toho movies! Plus, we get to see the return of three of Toho’s Big Five after so long! My only (minor) complaints are Rodan not being an ally to Godzilla and Mothra from the beginning, the other Titans not being shown, three of the human characters dying, Alan Jonah not having a bigger role, Emma not being an unwilling accomplice to the eco-terrorists, and some of the cast members of Godzilla 2014 and Kong: Skull Island not getting cameos. Other than that, definitely one of the best movies in 2019!
