From the Notebook DC Crossover Idea: Doctor Fate

Here’s another idea I wanted to get down after a very busy day. It’s another DC Comics crossover that I don’t think I’ll ever try to work out.

This one is about Doctor Fate. The sorcerer supreme of DC. The Lord of Order. The guy with the fancy gold helmet.

The Great Tabloid Disater: Deleted Scene (From Chapter 2)

This was originally going to be in chapter 2, and I’d written it to completion, but my proofreader, the ever-talented Setokaiva, told me it was unnecessary when combined with the other scenes, and I saw his point. So, I took it out and edited bits and pieces of it into the remaining scenes.

From the Notebook: An EQG/Flash Crossover Concept Part 1 · 2:48pm Jun 14th, 2023

Today’s going to be a heavy day, I know it, but before I really get started on it, I thought I’d do something I’d been thinking about recently, and that is share a story concept with you all, or part of it, anyway.

I have had a number of story ideas over the years, and there are some that I may never actually get to or work out to satisfaction. This is one of them. Maybe I will, maybe I won’t. But at the current moment, I’m not sure I will, so I figured “Why not?” I’m going to be putting down thoughts, outlines, maybe even scraps of scenes for this.

This particular idea, which never even got a temporary name, is a crossover between Equestria Girls and DC’s The Flash, taking cues from the now ended TV show (and a bit from the 1990 show). The reason this story is so underdeveloped is because while I knew I wanted the story to start in the human world, I was uncertain whether or not it should stay there or move into Equestria proper. I wrote many scenes of it moving INTO Equestria, but there were pros and cons to each choice and I never decided.

Basic Premise: Sunset Shimmer as The Flash.

Reason: While Rainbow Dash is associated with super speed, the Silver Age Flash, Barry Allen, is a forensic scientist. Sunset meets that scientific and intellectual requirement. Also, her color scene is red and gold, which fits the Flash to a T.

Origin of Powers: Before the Fall Formal, Sunset discovered a diamond buried in the ground near the school that is charged with Equestrian magic, and tries to harness it. She begins performing experiments in the school lab one night during a massive lightning storm, and a bolt of lightning comes through the window, hits the stone, shatter it, and then strikes Sunset in the chest.

Side Note: The diamond was one of Starswirl’s experiments in storing magical energy inside of a crystal matrix, and he dropped one when visiting the human world.

General Start of Plot: Sunset is out for a week or two, but when she wakes, she discovers that she can't feel her legs. Her spine isn't severed, so there IS a chance of her getting feeling back in her legs, albeit a small one. She is also left with intermittent tremors in her hands.

Sunset is taken in by Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna, and is utterly broken emotionally. Being crippled in such a way has ruined her queen bee status and the idea of returning to Equestria in this state is just awful. She gets harassed by the students that she once tormented, but Fluttershy takes pity on her, and eventually, the other EQG.

Sunset still struggles, even doesn't want to try physical therapy, but over time, she mellows to others and her new friends, and then, miraculously, she starts getting feeling back in her legs. Her friends encourage her through therapy, and she goes from a wheelchair to a cane, to walking unassisted.

One day, she decides to try running at the park, but in a few seconds, she's crossed the park and crashed into the earth. (Note: This takes a cue from the 1990 Flash series pilot) The Equestrian magic has mixed with the lightning to create something new, the Speed Force. Or perhaps ACCESS something new might be a better way to put it. One or the other.

Around the time of this discovery, a local gang (Name idea: Great Whites) is harassing local businesses, including Sugarcube Corner. In response, Sunset decides to DO something about it.

Costume Design 1: The first one would be less of a "suit" and more of an outfit. Blue jeans, a silver motorcycle helmet, and red boots and a red leather jacket (gifts from Principal Celestia since Sunset's originals were ruined by the lightning strike). This is meant to emulate the costume design of Jay Garrick, the Golden Age Flash.

Sunset hunts down the headquarters of the Great Whites, and brawls with them. Their leader, Sharkey (Could change the name...or did I spell it without the E? I can’t remember), gets away in a car, and Sunset gives chase, although her legs give out from exhaustion. Followed by a dramatic new effort, with Sunset running even faster, with electricity now sparking off her muscles as she engages in a dangerous, high speed chase with Sharkey.

Sharkey panics when he sees his pursuer, driving faster and faster, even deciding to crash his car and dive out of it. [Note: This sequence was inspired by the climax of Jay Garrick's first story.] Sunset stops the car, and grabs Sharkey, before dumping him and other gang members in a dumpster to be picked up by the police, and also fixing up Sugarcube Corner, which had been damaged by the gang.

Everyone's wondering who did it, and Sunset just smiles.

And that’s all I’m putting for right now.

Note: While I am sharing this on here, that is NOT permission to use the idea.
