I tag my posts by the book! · 7:07pm Jun 6th, 2023
I think, I feel true happiness since a long while!..
I feel, I can do anything!
I feel, I must discuss the tagging system.
Blogs on Fimfiction.net can be tagged. This allows for retrieval of tagged blog posts by searching for "#certain-tags" (this one will retrieve blog posts tagged "certain-tags").
There are no rules for tagging posts correctly. There is no unified way to tag.
Let us see, what rules have been abided by me in a place, where no one cared to establish them.
So far the list of tags I've used is:
- story-status-update;
- status-update;
- [year];
- happy-New-year;
- happy-holiday;
- Equestria-needs;
- codename-genie;
- codename-spy;
- codename;
- avatar;
- bio;
- user-page;
- good-news;
- MLP-anniversary;
- ten-years-since;
- eleven-years-since;
- manuskript;
- eqg-1;
- eqg;
- bbcode;
- The-Stanley-parable;
- parody;
- really?
- lesson-learnt;
- gosh-darn-it!;
Out of these 25 tags a system can be figured out.
- Any given tag can be structured.
- A tag's structure so far is made clear with hyphens.
- Like with Internet domain names the hierarchy is in reverse (as an example: "story-status-update" indicates the hierarchy of "story" under "status" under "update", defining the category of story-status updates in the category of status updates in the category of updates).
- The hierarchy may follow not the DNS principles (e. g.: "eqg-1" tags the first "Equestria girls" movie and places the blog posts tagged under "eqg", and not "1").
- It is not necessary to use hyphens to structure a tag.
- Tags can be scoped: "happy-holiday" scopes holiday-related tags; "user-page" -- user-page-related tags; etc..
- The most-nested tags in their scope should be listed before the less-nested tags, but that is a recommendation, and not a requirement (e. g.: I tag my story-status updates with two tags in this order: "#story-status-update, #status-update");
- The tags should narrow the post tagged down to as specific a category, as possible.
The categories for blog posts to fall under are as follows so far:
- Update: a dummy category; "update" is not used, as it is too broad; more-specific subcategories should be used instead.
- Happy holiday: my cheering for holidays.
- Equestria needs: my story ideas (the category name was spontaneous).
- Codename: my story-related blog posts; for stories both posted, and not yet posted.
- User page: blogging on the subject of my user page.
- Good news: the "good news, everybrony!" I've spread.
- MLP anniversary: my celebrating MLP anniversary.
- Years since: marking number of years since events (mostly for anniversaries).
- Manuskript: figuring out "Manskript", a writing tool we may come to use instead of "Notepad".
- Eqg: blogging on "Equestria girls" movies.
- Bbcode: experimenting with BBcode, the markup language implemented on Fimfiction.
- The Stanley parable: on "The Stanley parable".
- Parody: on parodies I've written.
- "Really?": blogs, in which I was surprised and disbelieving; I don't think it is a very useful category...
- Lesson learnt: lessons I've learnt through writing stories.
- "Gosh darn it!": "Oh my gosh!.."
The "Update" category contains:
- Status update: blogs updating on statuses (mine or my stories'); it contains:
- Story status update: blogs updating on my stories' statuses.
"Happy holiday" contains:
- Happy New year: New-year blog posts! Every new year is tagged with the year's number; so far I've cheered for 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2023 (no 2022).
"Equestria needs" contains: (nothing as of yet).
"Codename" contains: (categories codenamed after some of my stories; so far the codenames are:)
- "Genie": on "Daring Do and the magic lamp".
- "Spy": on "The tale of the Spy".
"User page" contains:
- Avatar: my blogging on my avatar (that doesn't change much).
- Bio: my "bio"; see the blog posts tagged.
"Good news" contains: (no subcategories so far).
"MLP anniversary" contains: (no subcats so far).
"Years since" contains: (subcategories by the number of years passed, such as "Ten years since").
"Manuskript" contains: (no subcats so far).
"Eqg" contains:
- Eqg 1: the first "Equestria girls" movie.
"Bbcode" contains: (no subcats so far).
"The Stanley parable" contains: (no subcats so far).
"Parody" contains: (no subcats so far).
"Really?" contains: (no subcats so far).
"Lesson learnt" contains: (no subcats so far).
[he]"Gosh darn it!" contains: (no subcats so far).
Additionally to the above I should like to introduce the "System" category for blogs on systems.
"System" shall contain:
- Tagging system: posts like this.
These guidelines are subject to changing, as I refine the rules.
Stay happy!
And do await further reports!
