Apathy is a Tragedy

Is indifference really the opposite of love?

Is apathy truly what's left after a blaze of passion consumes everything? Cold is only the absence of heat. So, is this...crevice in my chest where a heart used to be, the ashes of my emotions? Is this the fabled chill of indifference?

Oh, turn some lights on and lighten up. I'm only half kidding. Nihilism is only a Debbie Downer when you want it to be. I'm sure Nietzsche would be somewhat proud, despite not being a Nihilist, himself.

So, m'ask you sumthin—stranger. What was that blaze of passion you had in your life that fell victim to the icy clutches of indifference? Perhaps it's a story left to rot in the bookshelf of your mind, whether an old flame, a perfect match, or a burnt-out dream. What fuel do your voracious passions need to consume for them to keep burning? Believe me, you have one. No matter how much you want to vehemently deny it.

I want you to sit for a minute. Whether you're procrastinating at work, dragging your feet, or ignoring that giant pile of laundry in the corner of your room. No, I'm not going to shove optimism down your throat, because I have an easier pill to swallow for you. Something to digest for a while.

Fire was one of the most important discoveries humans have ever made. During our intellectual renaissance, the meaning of life became a close second. We're humans, we think a lot. In fact, we think so much we can't fit wisdom teeth in our mouths. I can, but, take that as you will. In fact, our brains are such an enigma, we don't actually know what consciousness is. Why do we dream? Why do we believe? Why do we create?

Well. I create things to prove things. Yes, I'm quite the vain and egotistical soul to place such great emphasis on something as trivial as approval. But do I care about your opinion? Depends. Is it constructive? Is it beneficial? What is the intent behind it, and most importantly, can I learn from it? If the answer is a big fat no, then I don't need it, and neither should you. Scorn arrogance, but welcome indiffrence.

Creating is my passion. I can create worlds with the tips of my fingers. I am the world's greatest actor, for my singular mind can create vast personalities and beliefs in the form of the characters you enjoy reading. Or, I just have multiple personality disorders. Either way, it's a skill that's crucial for whatever the hell I'm doing over here.

You may be wondering when that "thing" I keep mentioning will arrive. Well, that "thing" will arrive when the perfectionist in me becomes past tense. Right now, it's pestering me in the present. My creations are like a mirror. They reflect every aspect of me in some way. So beautifully unhinged just like me.

Drink some lemon water, stay hydrated, and beware of hay fever. Enjoy the heat.
