0/5: MY EYEEEESSS!!!

Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another TV show review for today! This evening, I will be reviewing “Transformers: Cybertron” also known as “Transformers: Galaxy Force” in Japan and Asia, an anime series from 2005. This was the final installment of the Unicron Trilogy (following “Armada” and “Energon” in that order), and this was the show that I was introduced to. Friends, this series is what got me into the franchise…one of my all-time favorite Transformers shows! The moment I watched some of the first episodes of the first season, I instantly became a fan thereof. It introduced to me a lot of characters: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Vector Prime, Hot Shot, and many others. When I was a kid, this series gave me an impression of what Transformers is all about, considering that I never grew up with the original G1 series. Then years later, as I watched all the other iterations of the franchise, I understood what this show was about and how different each universe is.

Anyway, in this series, Unicron’s destruction results in creating a black hole which threatened the safety of the universe. Therefore, the Autobots must find all four cyber planet keys alongside the Omega Lock in order to stop the black hole. However, Megatron seeks to use the Omega Lock to gain power over the universe. Thus, the Autobots and Decepticons engage in an epic battle with the fates of Cybertron, Earth, and every other world hanging in the balance.

I’m not gonna lie, this show has zero hesitation in spewing every cheesy one-liner that exists when it comes to fighting bad guys. It’s so hilarious yet still entertaining to watch. Not even the original animated series can top the cheesiness of this show! Not that it’s a bad thing, but it did get a little over-the-top in that department.

The English dubbing of this show was pretty good although often times the lip-syncing would not always match with the spoken dialogue. In some episodes, a few characters would speak their lines without even moving their lips. In other times, a character’s voice is heard through a different character. Seriously, it has some horrible coordination.

But this show has a great storyline to follow. It does have a slow buildup in the first half of season one, but then it gets more interesting when Starscream begins to slyly progress in his own plans until he successfully betrays Megatron and becomes a much more dangerous threat to our heroes.

As far as the human characters are concerned, they were pretty much decent for the most part. Seeing that we always have human children as the close companions of the Autobots, I have nothing more to say in regards to that.

I have grown liking Garry Chalk, David Kaye, Richard Newman, Mark Acheson, Mark Oliver, Michael Dobson, and many other voice actors in this show. They delivered their lines in such a fun, lively way for their respective characters that made them so fun to watch.

The computer animation is an average improvement over the “Beast Wars” type of animation although it looks kinda weird that it blends with an anime art style.

But what I love the most about this show is the soundtrack. My Primus, the theme song and the score will always ring in my head every time I think back on this series and every time I watch this in my free time! It is so catchy and iconic, in my opinion. Aside from the memes, the theme is so unforgettable that it practically becomes a part of your life. Honestly, it fits with any TF show you can think of, and it wouldn’t feel out-of-place.

The action scenes are especially amazing to watch. What makes it unique is that they use powerful artifacts such as cyber keys to unlock a secret weapon that can knock out an enemy completely. Plus, the way they transform is exactly how their toys transform. You just have to be reminded every episode that these are toys in action. Thank you, Hasbro.

Lastly, when it comes to the characterization of the Autobots and Decepticons, it is unparalleled. This version of Megatron, for example, is the most pompous, irredeemable, arrogant, and power-hungry tyrant I’ve ever seen in a Transformers show. The way he taunts his enemies with such confidence and narcissism is unbelievable. David Kaye made him so devilishly evil with his voice.

The same can be said for Starscream; his sheer will to surpass Megatron and the Autobots is likewise unparalleled due to how determined he is to gain absolute power. He is one of the only iterations of the character who is actually successful in his sinister endeavors to overthrow Megatron and to go even further in absorbing half of Primus’ power and to straight up challenge him in his titan form!! Gosh, they showed no restraint in his character writing at all, and I love it!

Overall, this show is so nostalgic and memorable for me. It does have some noticeable flaws, but the storyline, action sequences, and character development make it very watchable and enjoyable all the way through. Therefore, I give it a 4/5: OUR WORLDS ARE IN DANGER!

Peace!

Ransack and Crumplezone were funny. Why did they want to learn to play the violin?
