Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing Paramount's Top Gun: Maverick of 2022 per the request of vicenteortiz99! Not too long ago, my mother recommended this film to me, but I wanted to watch the original 1986 film first before I could watch this new movie, considering the fact that this is a sequel to the former. Now that I have finally seen the film last night, I gotta say that it was immensely enjoyable. In fact, I enjoyed it more than the first movie. It has a more intriguing storyline, character development, and fantastic visuals which look a lot more modern and appealing than that of the original.

This movie is set thirty years later as Pete Mitchell is now the elite top aviator. Later on, however, he must confront the demons of his past once he is selected to train new graduates of TOP GUN to be the best pilots of the Navy, one of them being the son of Maverick's deceased friend. Will Maverick learn to let go and heal the wounds of his past?

As I said, I really loved how they handled the characters in this movie. It perfectly covered the themes of trauma, friendship, teamwork, and perseverance. It basically reinforces the notion that there will be some things in life that will come back and haunt you for the time being. The key is how you handle those issues--whether you will hold on to the past or you learn to let go and try to own up to your mistakes. So Maverick's character growth was well-written in that regard; his facial expressions, mannerisms, and emotional responses were all well-expressed thanks to the top-tier performance of Tom Cruise. It was also really nice seeing Val Kilmer reprise as Iceman even if it was a minor role for the movie. Still, he served an important part in helping Maverick to overcome his internal conflict in regard to Rooster.

The cinematography was top-notch, the soundtrack was pretty good, and the acting was great from start to finish.

Like I said in my original "Top Gun" review, it was awesome seeing aircraft flying around and engaging in dogfights this time around. The scenes that showcased enemy aircraft fire on our heroes had me at the edge of my seat, and I really liked how they displayed the realism of flying in a jet and how vital it is to not make any mistakes when training and especially not when you're flying over enemy territory. So it was both epic and amazing to watch.

The plot was interesting and simple enough to follow which is probably the main thing that makes this movie more watchable than the first one. So yeah, that's all I have to say about it. I will rate it a solid 10/10!

Peace!
