Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This evening, I will be reviewing Warner Bros' DC League of Super-Pets of 2022! Now, I initially didn't want to watch this film after watching the trailer because I have grown sick and tired of Hollywood making shite movies filled with excessive self-aware humor to excuse bad writing, relying on pop culture references just to stay relevant without focusing on the actual story and characters, and overusing clichés due to lack of originality. Believe me, I was really expecting this movie to suck balls when I finally decided to check it out. Now that I have seen it, I must say... it was actually enjoyable! Seriously, I was surprised at how great this movie is! Although it isn't flawless by any means, I had a lot of fun watching it for the first time.

This movie is about Krypto, the super-dog who fights alongside his owner, Superman. As the latter plans to marry Lois Lane, Krypto fears he will be left out and unloved with Lois settling in. Realizing this, Superman attempts to introduce him to another dog who could befriend him and give him company. However, an evil guinea pig kidnaps Superman and other members of the Justice League with her orange kryptonite powers. Now Krypto must rally Ace and his friends to master their superpowers so they can rescue the Justice League and stop Lulu.

This movie genuinely felt like an actual story being told. It perfectly balanced its comedic and serious moments from start to finish, gave each supporting character a personality and depth, and the premise was executed in a way that made all the characters likable. Basically, the story made a lot of sense on the grounds of making the main protagonist relatable as well as being faithful to the source material. As a DC fan, I actually admire the direction they took with the Justice League and with the Super-Pets. For me, the best part was how everyone--both hero and pet--had to work together in order to fight against a bigger threat until Krypto stepped in to ultimately deliver the final blow. That was really epic.

The animation is outstandingly well-made and smooth, and the voice acting is quite honestly great. Dwayne Johnson did a surprisingly well-done vocal performance as Krypto, and Kevin Hart really wasn't that bad in his role as Ace. To be honest, I am not a fan of celebrities doing voice-over roles in animated films, but judging from the number of times we've had famous actors do a splendid job in older animated films such as The Lion King, The Iron Giant, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, and much more, I can't really complain much here, especially since the voice acting was really good in this. It all comes down to competent voice direction and to the actual talent of the performers.

As for the villain, I felt so happy and relieved to see a villain who isn't revealed to be evil at the end via a plot twist, isn't held back by a tragic upbringing, and isn't hesitant to manifest how evil she is. I really want to see more villains who are evil just because--characters who enjoy being villainous and are irredeemable. Back to what I was saying, Lulu was quite a formidable foe even if she doesn't seem intimidating on the outside. For a hairless guinea pig, she knew how to be threatening, and she can easily use her dull appearance for deceptive purposes with or without the orange kryptonite. Her personality was well-balanced with dark humor and unshaking lust for power. It's such a shame her admiration for Lex Luther didn't pay off due to his unsurprising betrayal. *sigh* That's why I love ya, Lexy.

Overall, this was a very solid movie. As far as the flaws are concerned, some of the jokes felt forced and unfunny, and Krypto's "sacrifice" felt so predictable and rushed...I mean, I knew he was not gonna die at the end. Why should I be worried if nothing fatal happens to the main character? Other than that, I highly recommend this film if you want to see some DC pets kick some butt. Therefore, I will rate this a 9/10! Oh, and I'm so thankful they used meta jokes and pop culture references sparingly. Just remember that less is more, and not everything has to be self-aware just because.

Peace!

Kevin Hart also delivered a heart-breaking performance when Ace reveals his history to Krypto.

That was a sad yet powerful scene to watch. One of the best scenes of the film, honestly.
