Nice
Oh, I am really not looking forward to any more conversations with Star Mapper. I can just smell the abusive household from here. If she ever sees everything else in pike’s life it’s gonna get bad.
Mom troubles are rolling into the station! ALL ABOARD!
11072207
wait, why's it abusive?
im dumb.
The delirious abuse Pike suffered under growing up is so thick you can basically reach out and take a bite out of it.
Even for the rather more extreme sexist behavior in this RGRE, Star Mapper stands out. Pike's gonna need a lot of therapy and loving support to get out from under this.

Emotional abuse, not caring about her daughter’s interests, massively into the idea of mares needing to be marely, utterly refusing even the slightest bit of stallion’ness.
She spoke about practically disowning one of her other daughters because she became less of a mare, the fact that Pike needs to be on guard about literally everything she says or does, there are various things to notice. Even her cutie mark story, where she got her cutie mark because she had to hide from her mother from finding out she enjoyed cooking. It didn’t matter how good it was, it was only the fact that she did it.
I rambled a bit, but that’s it.
I’m kind of surprised Anon doesn’t just have a certified document from Celestia that allows him to say his cutie mark story is classified, seems like the kind of move he would have thought of.
Oof

Good thing she's got Anon and Cut to help her come to terms with your feelings. The big question is: how is the rest of Equestria going to handle this change in gender dynamics? We've seen that even Twilight has some of the same feelings regarding stallions, which means Celestia and Luna most likely do to.
In a sense it is kinda sad to see Pike emotionally messed up with how her mother treated her children and to see how Pike is whenever she deals with her mother. As her subconscious said, It was a hollow victory to get her mother's approval. While that was as a filly what she always wanted. Even though that it is not her true nature.
I'm rather eager to see what kind of breakdown Star Mapper is going to have when they learn about Anon. I also kinda want to see her reaction to Anon "out-mareing" her in one way or another.

One of the things I like most about this story is that all of the characters have a real sense of the same kinds of personal baggage that comes with life.
Pike grew up in a toxic masculinity / maresculinity household and has to learn to accept her mom is just wrong on how to deal with relationships and that it is ok to enjoy non traditional things.
Cut needs to learn that she is worthy of love, and that the starting point to being respected by others is to respect herself.
Anon is to learn that communication is the most important aspect to any relationship, and that bottling up things or keeping secrets only makes things harder.
This chapter was very very good, but also hard to read considering how real it gets. I want Pike, Anon and Cut to be happy.

"Hrrrrnngh, Nocturnal Pike, I'm trying to stress-test your future hubby, but I'm dummy thicc and my squeaking tactical sex harness keeps being repelled by his Sigma Male energy, Hrrrrnngh."

>Quick cut to Anon who is looking at both a dictionary and Thesaurus
"Yeah, I have no idea what she just said."
I have a feeling that before long, Anon is going to approach Star Mapper.
Because he can't beat the shit out of her if he doesn't approach her. Ora Ora, motherfucker.
Good job on the rather subtle ques. At least subtle compared to most fics. It's running very soothingly with a very believable conflict coming up.
Are stallions usually associated with queens? Like, are we to assume that this a typical stallion behaviour, or is it meant to be atypical stallion behaviour?

Now that you mention it, I am a little surprised 'drama king' isn't used in this RGRE universe.
11072461
She hadn't fucked her mom, she did it to her daughter. She really fucked up her childhood.
11072461
she's like a jock that never managed to let go of her highschool football career, like a much worse version of Al Bundy
11071860
I'm guessing that's some sort of fan-made comedy series?
11072573
That's actually a mistake, good catch. If I'm not careful sometimes those OGR terms slip though. I'll pass that on to bobbles

Those things have a way of sneaking past you. Fixed!
11072294
That would really funny.
frikkin yikes! first time i just read through the comments. hella lot of snowflakes! and this coming from a man who's first wife who told him he shoulda been born a girl!
but then what would this story be worth if the comments section didn't fit the theme. =^-^=
i remember growing up and getting teased and beat up just because i played and got along with the cootie collectors. by high school i was getting beat up cause most of the girls sneaking around school were always asking their boyfriends why can't you be more like Stacy!?! even my name called me gay. least the girls new i wasn't. "sshhh!!! don't tell your boyfriend!

You're correct. It now occurs to me there are people who may not have been on youtube when that was the hottest stuff around.

I feel SQA is subtly trying to implant that Vanessa Carlton song into our minds with all those "made his/her way downtown" I've seen. No complaints from me though.

It does make a bit of sense. The word 'queen' derives from Old English 'cwean', meaning "woman", so that "king and queen" would have had connotations of "the ruler and his woman" (there was a lot of highly sexist law in medieval European history, France for instance not only prohibiting the king's daughters from inheriting the throne, but also any of their descendants, even the male ones, because it was politically convenient to interpret Salic law as requiring monarchies descend solely from father to son). So it would be logical in an RGRE (or, for that matter, any matriarchal Equestria ) for the Equestrian word with the equivalent connotations to be the one that applies to stallions. And I assume that neither Bobbles nor SQA could find any plausible pun for it the way someone did with "emaresculating", and that they felt "drama stallion" did not sound frivolous enough to properly fit.
(On a personal note: Because of these connotations and how much more unavoidable they are than might be the case with, eg, 'duke' and 'duchess', when I am writing fiction, I personally feel uncomfortable using the word "queen" for female monarchs outside of the European context where these connotations fit. If I haven't brainstormed the words in the alien language in question, I would much rather use "regina" (the feminine form of "rex") or "königin" (the feminine form of "könig") or just "king".)

I feel like Anon already learned that lesson, when he told Pike about his true backstory!
11072274
Wow, so Pike's mom is basically a Karen!
11073239
He hadn't told Cut yet.
Plus there is more stuff coming that really touches on his ability to cope with being in a relationship and communicating when things are bothering him
Pike's mom oozes toxicity.
The issue is that her actions aren't as obvious as they should be, and they are cloaked under the traditional values of society.
Anon is one of the few beings who will be able to peg Star Mapper as a person to avoid, and that's only because of his...unique background.
I can't wait to see what Anon's cover story for his cutie mark is.
11072951
Ah yes, mans1ay3r, formally of Machinima. God bless him.
Never forget: "We'll Bang, Ok?"
Toxic as Chernobyl... yikes.
One of the more wholesome stories i’ve read in this site.
Too bad Pike has a shitty mom though.
11074187
I mean, if you think about it, it is the classic 'alpha' mentality that still exists around.
... still sucks though. But hey, ya know what, Pike's on her own, with her own loving family. If her mom wants to be a bitch, then that's on her.
Oh right I've wondering about this for a while: "What's Shining Armor's situation and history like in this world?"
I somehow doubt it was your Dad
I can guess why
That's because it is a shiver.
Star Mapper has no doubt stubbornly spent more time out in the cold than she needed to in some pointless show of maresculinity
I believe the first part and highly doubt the second
I'm guessing that phones have been successfully used by the public for several years at this point and yet she stubbornly refuses to use them
I am looking forward to the day that you can let yourself roll your eyes at this mare
I really don't like how she said that
You're not exactly setting a good one, and I am glad that apparently none of your daughters are "living up" to your example
It really isn't and it should be fairly easy work through it.
The whole situation might have actually been a good wake up call for your sister, sure it was no doubt painful, especially when Star Mapper got involved, but it might lead to some positive developments for Lucky mentally and a improved relationship between her and her herd.
And probably a better relationship between Pike and Lucky in the future
Yikes! We thought it was toxic, but Star's "visit" cemented!
11093953
It makes me wonder what Star Mapper's mother was like. Not that that excuses any of her behavior.
