Would anyone really care if zebra OC's didn't rhyme?

It's really a question of managing audience expectations.

Zecora's our only zebra in the show, and she doesn't discuss why she always speaks in rhyme, so you could more than get away with a non-rhyming zebra OC who thinks her schtick is misleading and perhaps even insulting to the rest of her kin. That said, if you're not going to go with rhymes for your zebra character, you'd better make sure there is something about them to justify their stripes. If it walks like a pony, talks like a pony, but looks like a zebra, you're going to get a lot of questions about why you didn't write the character as a normal pony instead.
