F.A.Q. for Letters from Blitzen. · 6:06pm Oct 13th, 2012

Hello! Chances are, if you are here, you have a few questions about Hope's Asylum, Kirins, and other little details of this story! This FAQ will be updated with questions, should anyone like to ask and point out plot holes I may have overlooked as the author. Please feel free to use this posting to ask anything regarding the story you'd like! Now onto the Questions!

Question 1: What exactly are Kirins?

Answer: I think Pinkie Pie said it best! "You see when a mommy Dragon, and a frisky daddy Unicorn, or other Pony, get together, they make a baby like him! Isn't he cute?"

A Kirin is a Monster Hunter (PSP/Wii/3DS/PC) game 'monster' that a hunter hunts, that resembles a Lightning Unicorn. It is very wild, and is also considered an Elder Dragon. This is, because it is half-dragon, half horse! In my stories, The Kirins are half pony, instead of horse, but still retain their dragon genetics. The two mentioned in this story, and Blitzen (one who resembles the Monster Hunter enemy to a "T", but in colt form), and Rapi Dash (one that looks EXACTLY like her Pokemon namesake, and is of NO RELATION to Rainbow Dash!) Rapi is the older, around 400 years old, while Blitzen is about a century or slightly older.

Kirins, in my head canon, have long lives like Dragons. They age much slower and live long. Therefore (in the simplest human years I can do) Blitzen is around 10 years old, and very much a playful colt, but never really had much experience with other outside Hope's Asylum, while Rapi is his very overprotective Sister-figure, around mid-age in life. It is briefly mentioned in the prior story, she was married to a Griffon. This may be explained later, but due to her partner's death, she is resentful of the Canterlot Princesses

Question 2: Hope's Asylum? Kirins, HippoGriffs, and Kelpies? WHAT!?!

Answer. This is an ongoing reference I plan on bringing up from time to time. Hope's Asylum, is a refuge for pony hybrids, from Kirins, to Hippogriffs, Mules, and even Zorses! (Zebra/Pony mixes). It is located in the forest below Smokey Mountain, and protected by strong dissuasive magic. Ignoring that magic, Ponies brave enough to pass on will find a white Manticore (named Manny) protecting its gates. The Great Kellie (a Kelpie) Is its oldest resident/Guardian, and the Kirins who live there are Rapi Dash, and Blitzen.

The long and short of it? The CMCs discovered this place, and the Princesses themselves revealed the ancient sanctuary still exists to those in the nearby Ponyville area. It has been slow integrated even since. (or will be, if the series of stories continue!) My reasons for a city of mixes? Simple: I (the author) am a mix myself!

Question 3: Why does Blitzen have a crush on Sweetie Belle? What about their age difference or however it works?

Answer: This story will explore this potential complication, Trust me, when Rarity finds out a hundred year old male is going after her sister, things may get ugly! That said, I intend this to be on a cutesy love story on the level on Tuck Everlasting, but not as tragic. No spoilers though!

Question 4: I read a little bit of the story. It seem Blitzen knows some more adult things than colts his own age, why is that, and would that not make it...a bit creepy?

Answer: I modelled Rapi after an over-protective but extremely open-minded mother figure I know in real life. Much like her, Rapi told him about..the birds and bees, when he was younger, but in such a way, that once he got his own Cutie Mark, and he had began to enter puberty (or mature...they are ponies after all!) he was afraid of these feelings he had. Sweetie, through an off-scene chat, was able to share with him what the feelings meant, in a good way. By that, I mean they kissed, and talked...NOTHING ELSE! Because of this, he is expressing his first crush on her. I can't say more...SPOILERS, but while there is a possibility of a crush ending, some good will come of it!

Question 5: What the HAY is up with that "Silhouette character? She is really...strange!

She a typical Opliptera (or bat-pony. That term is something I borrowed from this site's very own Vargas! Credit is due there!) who has seen many strange things. It is briefly mentioned, in her first appearance in the Wonder-Colt story, she lived among "bird-people. This too, is a reference to that stories game universe. She was raised to face danger with a laugh, and that carries over to her romance with her new love, Zed. She is a recurring character I add for light-hearted fun every so often, but won't be in this story for long...=/
