Wish I had more time to write...

Sequels1

E

This story is a sequel to The Chronicles of Summer Rain, Vol. 7 -- monsters in the Grass

It seems like life is just like this. Deal with one problem, enjoy a little peace, then a bigger one pops up. Equestria's recent history seems to read the same way. The 'Phantom Alicorn' had recently helped Princess Twilight and Equestria face a number of 'bad guys' to varying degrees. But a bully from the past would exact a far greater price...

Chapters (68)
Comments ( 8 )

I have two questions: 1. Why are there no comments? That seems highly unlikely. 2. Why do you put random single quotation marks around everything? Your grammar is great, except for those. Some quotations should be replaced by italics, but seriously? Quotations around "Elements of Harmony"? Or around "Princess Celestia"? In Book 2, Chapter 10, you put quotations around "looming cloud". 1. Idioms don't get quotation marks. 2. That's not an idiom. It's a literal, semantically correct statement that means exactly what it says.

Book 3, Chapter 10: You put quotations around "run him off" and around "whole" when speaking about the family. The former is a somewhat idiom and the latter is another literal statement like "looming cloud". It gets even crazier when you put quotations around "slept in". Could you please explain my questions?

P.S. I put double quotation marks around those phrases only because I'm quoting them.

Thanks, whizzball1 for your comments. It sounds like this is wrong, but I frequently use single quotes to clarify the meaning of the sentence to make it easier to grasp. An example of this is single quoting a phrase that should have special meaning from past context. This helps the particular phrase stand out some, so it is more easily connected with past use, as it is read. Maybe italics might be more correct, I don't know. I will try to be a little more careful about this.

5364187 On the contrary: The quotations are distracting. They can actually detract from the meaning of the sentence. Here's a rule of thumb: Never use single quotation marks. Use double quotation marks only if you're quoting something or introducing a new concept (and this is on a case by case basis). And second: If your readers can't understand the meaning of your sentences without quotations, they're... Not very bright. So you're fine with just removing those single quotation marks everywhere. To any reasonable audience, the sentences are good and don't need fairly distracting clarification.

I hope this helps!

P.S. Use that double arrow on the top right of my post to quote me; that sends me a notification. I only found out you responded because I happened to look at this story.

Why don't you create another story if it's book 2? Why are some chapters short?

5426966 Thanks for your comments. This is all one story, and I tried to use different books to cover the consecutive trips back into Equestria Past. And some chapters are short because that was all it took to cover the theme in the chapter. I don't know if either is right though.

So I noticed that this had updated. I looked at this chapter, and I have to say, you've really improved as to usage of quotation marks. There were only two errors on that front: you put "honeymoon" and "coffee table" in quotations. Although, the other places you use single quotation marks would probably be better with double quotation marks, because they're quoting people. "Hamburger": she's quoting what someone said they were called. "Trying to make sense": She's quoting what the pony who was kicked out said. Also, "... and get going" (I can't remember exactly what it said) and "brackets" should use double quotation marks, too.

You're growing. I like this.:raritystarry:

P.S. Use the double arrow button so I can see if you reply, please. I might forget to check this.

5443418 Thanks for you help. I am trying to cut way back on the use of single quotes. That chapter was rough because Summer was in the Equestria Girls world, and there is still a lot she doesn't understand.
