Or, rather, it’s easy until suddenly it happens and you’re forced to ask yourself the one terrifying question you’d yet to consider.

This is a story of a pony that arrives in Ponyville, broken and dying, before being rescued by Applejack.

He ran far to get here, and he's not sure if he's being followed, so hiding in Ponyville seems like his best bet.

However, his secrets build up and his insecurity rises.

How long can he keep secrets from the new friends he's made, and what will happen to those friends when his secret gets out.

A new system is taking the modern human society by storm. Synch is a device that interfaces with your brainwaves to centralise your entire tech.

Smart phone? Internet? Computer? Heads Up Display?

When Synchrony, a program compiled by a mysterious creator on the extranet, allowed people with Synch gear to live in a world built from their subconscious (or so it was postulated), it caused ripples like a pebble thrown into a pond.

Many used Synch as an escape from the real world, a break from reality.

Unfortunately for one human though he is about to have a never-ending vacation.

This story is also recently tagged dark due to the nature of the story progression (there is exploration into death and such).

This is also one of my first attempts at making a proper story and I'd definitely would welcome any feedback and improvements will definitely show up in future chapter releases. Please, please, please if you're thinking about down voting this story, give a reason in the comments so I can make adjustments if it is something I can fix.

It's also a bit of a slow start. Forgive me for that.

Also I have planned this story to be ~150k words that may change but that should give an idea of how fast this story will move.

Also as a side note to new viewers, there will be active editing of the story as I write it. Tags in stories with (rev1) (rev2) are meant to match up to the intended changes to the chapters, there may be discontinuities and I will strive to address them.

Also decided to put an Alternate Universe tag as this story may diverge from the main series. Also, if it was otherwise unclear this is a science fiction/fantasy match up.

The thick growth of the Everfree Forest harbors many secrets. Some, it shares with the adventurous souls that seek them out. Others are well-guarded for a reason.

Lyra Heartstrings, a graduate student in Canterlot University's archaeology program, is no stranger to discovering lost civilizations. When she finds a survivor from one, however, she begins helping him to restore his culture.

The question burning in the back of her mind is, "At what cost?"

This story was written as a commission for genuis101. We both know that the "Lyra and Humans" thing has been done to death, but I wouldn't have taken this project on if I couldn't breathe some fresh life into the trope.

When Fluttershy finds a human in her backyard trying to eat one of her chickens, she and a majority of the residents of Ponyville only want this dangerous creature as far away from their town as possible.

After a less than stellar first impression, Derpy Hooves and the human struggle to quell the rumors surrounding his diet, and convince the townsfolk that he's harmless.

Will the human be able to make himself meek enough to coexist? Or will he be driven out of town with torches and pitchforks?

Each chapter is told from the perspective of a different pony.

Octavia has been accepted to Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns in order to study music which, as an earth pony from Ponyville, is quite the feat.

Now she must make friendships, endure life struggles, and contend with her peers away from everything she's ever known, something made all the more interesting by the appearance of a certain pegasus classmate.

Ever wonder what Equestria's past was like? How did Celestia and Luna come to rule? And what made their rule a time of peace? Well I may have had something to do with that.

Name's Zack. I appeared in Equestria over 3000 years before the show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" takes place. For whatever reason, a few months after my arrival, I was transported to the modern day Ponyville. What happened? Are the Princesses mad at me for disappearing like I did? I only helped establish the greatest country this world has ever seen and then vanished.

That... sounded more innocent in my head. Uh oh...

As such, it will essentially be an entirely new story, meaning this version of Past, Present, and Future is technically Cancelled. There will be no more chapter updates until I finish the rewrite, meaning that this version will not have a proper ending. If it's requested enough, I may do some kind of Cliffnotes version of how the rest of the story was meant to play out, but for right now just know that if you start reading this version, you will not get an ending. I will post an announcement chapter on this story and Blog on my profile when the writing nears completion and I'm about to start uploading chapters.
