Domination of Equestria - T-61 days.
“Well now. A personal visit by the captains of the Wonderbolts.”
“This isn’t a social call.”
“Well no, the large crossbow was rather a big tip off.”
“No, I’m going to kill you.”
“You realise that a crossbow bolt alone isn’t going to do it. In the time it takes you to reload, wherever you hit me won’t be fatal, I shoot you with my plasma pistol, far more lethal, and trigger an alarm and get immediate medical attention.”
“Then why haven’t you gone for your gun?”
“Well I’d rather not be shot in the first place. Regardless of whether it would be fatal, it would be undeniably painful. I’d rather talk you down, see if we can avoid some unwanted pain.”
“Soarin?”
“Yea Spit?”
“Keep watch outside.”
“On it.”
“It won’t be long before someone notices anyway you know.”
“Shut it asshole.”
“Come now Spitfire, be reasonable. This isn’t going anywhere.”
*Woop Woop*
*Blarg! Blarg!*
*Woop Woop*
“The alarm!? How!? The button is behind the desk!”
“Wasn’t me. Did you bring friends? Sounds like they fucked up.”
“Shit! Soarin, get in here and lock the door!”
“On it!”
“I wouldn’t do that…”
“Blast the panel!”
“Setting charge…”
*Klunk Klunk Klunk*
“Master! Master! Let us in!”
“Blow it Soarin!”
“Detonating!”
*Boom!*
*Shunk!*
“It’s open!?”
“Master!”
“Grab them!”
“Spitfire!”
*Bang*
“Soarin! Soarin!”
“You idiot, why did you shoot him!?”
“Soarin! No...DAMN YOU!”
“Grab her damnit!”
“I’LL KILL YOU!”
“Take her away. Find out who else was here. Use any means you can.”
Overlord Rule No:96 My door mechanisms will be designed so that blasting the control panel on the outside seals the door and blasting the control panel on the inside opens the door, not vice versa.
Clever switch.
This one of the rules that I've always like the best
Spitfire, Spitfire, Spitfire... you clearly not watched "The good, the bad and the ugly" movie. Because if you did, then you remembered Tuco lesson: when you are going to kill, kill, don't talk.
Ah, the good ole' bait 'n switch... Or should I say "Blow up the switch"? I can't think of any stupid puns...
The good'ol door-trick. Bound to catch enemy off-guard.
While I can usually guess who's talking, I do find it annoying reading through this the first time that it's never made clear who's saying what.
This is one of the rules i've never gotten. Shouldn't blasting either panel lock the door?
7912160
No. As shown here the rebel scum attempt to lock themselves in by blasting the control panel on the inside of the door. Which then opens the door letting the guards in.
7911848 Ah, the ol' switcheroo never fails.
7912160 Ideally, the door would read the intent and allegiance of the person blasting the panel - an ally would get the effect they intend; an enemy the reverse...
In the absence of Star Trek drama-sensitive door technology, default to assuming anyone blasting the panel is an enemy, either trying to get in, or to keep legitimate users out - you'll be wrong sometimes, but less than with any other assumption.
Just going to say destroying a keypad should not affect the use of the keypad on the other side also having the keypads destruction affect the door is generally a bad idea and if you're facing someone smart you should assume destroying the keypad should trigger a major alert, so I hate this trope from both sides.
yay your back back to tracking the chronological order and on that note you have 4 dates at -61 im sure i have them in the correct order but but its always confusing when i comes to different perspectives
This rule has always struck me as kinda flawed. Frankly it's entirely situational-it could just as easily hinder your forces or the enemy as it would help you.
For example, say the enemy wants you trapped in a room-well blast the door and they've sealed you in, maybe they tossed a grenade in with you and then blasted the door shut.
What happens when both panels have been blasted?
Also how do you even define inside or outside within a building? It's all situational. If it's inside the hall, does that mean blasting the door will always open it? If it's outside the hall, will blasting it seal it shut? Furthermore, if it does work like this and there is a clearly designated inner and outer door panel everywhere-even if it's arbitrarily designated-then couldn't the rebels/heroes/enemies of the Overlord also use it to their advantage easily enough?
I get what this rule is going for, but frankly? It doesn't make a lot of sense, at least to me. So this chapter just feels...awkward, kind of, to me because I don't think this rule fundamentally works very well.
If someone can clarify this, if it turns out I'm just not understanding it properly, feel free to do so.
7916529 The thing you need to understand is, these rules aren't about practical real-world advice. They're about being genre savvy. The purpose of the Evil Overlord list is to make fun of the constant predictable ways Emperor Palpatine wannabees keep losing and/or getting killed.
So in movies/tv/comics/whatever, blasting a door's control panel always has the effect of protecting the heroes against pursuit from the villain's forces. Hence this rule about taking steps to stop that from working. It's not about being practical or even realistic, it's about stopping that trope from working in the hero's favor.
Countermeasure: reach around to the appropriate side when slapping the bomb on. Just because YOU are on one side doesn't mean you can't destroy the other one.
