Because I'm sure one colt alone in his room requires more attention and supervision than the entire orphanage worth of kids outside, at a fundraising event designed to keep the orphanage running... This Matron's priorities are a little strange. It may be time for her to retire?
I like her.
See, the problem here, Buttercup, is that you made the mistake of not counting your bits first. If you had known that you were two bits short, then you could have offered to make a deal with Merrill before you bought the icecream.
"Hey Miss. I've got thirty kids here who want some icecream, I only have twenty-eight bits. I don't want any of my friends to miss out, so either I buy twenty-eight scopes, and you throw in two free, or I can't buy any at all. Your choice."
Though, part of me wonders if Buttercup is actually much more savvy than she lets on, and actually has the full thirty bits, but is counting on either Merrill or Trixie to take pity on the two kids that were 'left out' and chip in the last two bits. Thus saving Peanut two bits she can use for something else.
Aw, come on, Trixie. You knew Peanut is a troublemaker, and he is currently in trouble. Of course the Matron's opinion of him is sour at the moment. It doesn't have to be related to his race. Like if she'd said "Dunno what he sees in that colt" wouldn't have meant she hates colts.
I do hate colts though.
The changeling told someone to be themselves, oh the delicious irony.
I... need an adult?
This sounds like Trixie would save Peanut, i mean if she should really dislike Changelings, then i think he doesn´t get the same amount of "love", if she is that type of Caretaker anyway.
I guess the Batpony, is really more like Spitfire probably, Peanut is a troublemaker too, but still i somehow think Peanut maybe needs more attention, and is the one who likes trixie the most, and if Buttercub has the personality i think she has, then she is the right one for Spitfire.
I know they share a sisterly bond together, but if they get new parents...., i think you can guess what i am trying to say.
Maybe Trixie should wait with the good news, till the show is over, and nothing can disturb their special time together.
Good story, i still didn´t forgot the bad things that could happen, but i hope they have still some times till something happens.

She was suppose to have more detailed reason why she had to separate from the rest of them. Unfortunately I was unable to do so cause I kept dying in Dying light and I quit half away through.
Oh, you like the sassy bitch types huh?
5785188 Nah, she isn't a bad care taker. She's actually a good care taker I just never got into a greater detail.
Funny that's what Crow said too I believe!

Well, I suppose it's fine if there is some underlying reason that we don't know about. It's not as if Buttercup would know the specifics.
Something like that. I mean hey, I like Trixie, so that's gotta be a part of it. ;3
But more specifically I like the way that Buttercup is trying to lie about her feelings, but utterly fails in concealing them. She doesn't really think her lucky friend is a bitch, she's just hurt because it feels like another poke at the sore spot that there's something wrong with herself. Besides, I think it's cute when a little more defensive characters drop into suspiciously specific denial.
Buttercup feels a fair bit like a younger Trixie. She commands some authority, and seems to do her best to be a good person, like watching after the kids, or taking care of Peanut. She may also be cunning, but I'm not sure about that. We've not heard of Buttercup being violent or bullied, just ostracized, so there's less of a connection to Spitfire, but Peanut does have some aspects of that. Like Spitfire, Peanut gets picked on for being different, and resorted to violence. I don't think that's a fair line of me to draw though, because this does not sound like a common theme for him, yet. It may become a theme if left alone though, considering Peanut got some significant positive reinforcement for hitting the colt that picked on him (Icecream and an apology). I could see Spitfire stop that in its tracks if she recognizes it.
5786678 Well I was planning on making someone to relate to the main characters. I never knew there was such a thing as suspiciously specific denial. Although after reading up on it I realized just how often I came across it in shows. My favorite was Danny Phantom which is actually the example used in the site I read from your link. Then it hit me how often i heard such things. Weird.
I actually am going to expand on that later. If you hated colts before you might really hate Peanut after the next chapter. God if Spitfire saw it... Let's just say I'm having a lot of fun with this. Probably more than I should.

TV-Tropes has pretty much taken anything and everything in storytelling and giving it a name. It's pretty interesting to browse through. Word of warning, do not click any links on TV-Tropes. You will lose 8 hours of your life before you realize it's morning.
As far as Peanut is concerned, you might as well deliberately make me hate him, because I'm never going to like him.

How can you say NO to that face?

I can't, but only because the changeling in that picture looks like a filly not a colt.

You will love and tolerate! The MANE party has commanded!
But seriously I have big plans for the fundraiser. I'll have the chapter out in a few hours hopefully. If I don't fall asleep at my laptop again.

And Trixie decides to adopt two children while Spitfire is away, the mare (that she has known for less than a month so far) that she plans on raising these kids with. Geez Trixie, I know that Spitfire told you to surprise her, but at the very beginning of this adoption process you were extremely sensible about the process wanting to wait a year before doing anything official
