Don't think I didn't notice the Chengar Cloudkicker nod, you sexy thing, you.
HOW DOES THAT WORK?!
Yes, Lero: this isn't a cartoon. This is a fanfic based on a cartoon
Instant idea for when the crisis is over.
Take Starswirl's spell book, take it out of the library.. and burn it. Send the ashes back to the Celestia.
Think about it. With such a dangerous spell that can either A) Put the Element Bearers under extreme mind\body magic with great potential to kill or drive them insane, and B) potentially turn any pony into an alicorn demi-god, it's way too dangerous to even keep around without the possibility that it can be used against them. Best option is to destroy the spellbook before anyone can use it again or ruin their lives. DO IT!

If Celestia could be trusted with the thing, it wouldn't be a problem. She really needs to start listening to her sister and supposed co-ruler. (How long until we hear from her, anyway?) Now, if Twi goes through with the whole alicornification thing, we could probably let her hang on to it, as she knows first-hand just how dangerous it is.

Wish I knew! Ask the writer who wrote 'One Bad Apple!'

It'll be a couple more chapters... but I give you my word; the chapter when Luna DOES make a personal appearance... will be an EPIC one.
And no, you won't be waiting for the very end of this story to see that chapter. More of a 'midway' point in the story.
I wonder how the Apple family clan will take this after Twilight turns everyone back to how they were. Considering how close they are to the land and how tight family is too them, what Celestia did will really make them agitated.
Also, where is Granny Smith? If she in the retirement home, then, phew, that's not so bad. If she's in the Acres then she's a broken hip waiting to happen.
2780507
Granny Smith's still at Sweet Apple Acres. Screwed up as she is in the head, as Granny's "granddaughter," Pinkie Pie has far too much respect for her to send the old girl off to anyplace like a retirement home or a nursing home.
Granny will make an appearance later in the story.
Really, Spike, you only have yourself to blame. You think Lero's just going to sit there, let you tease him about Dash, and ignore Rarity? Ha ha no.
Also, I'm impressed by the "weather unicorn" bit. This curse is capable of epileptic tree-level headcanon. Now if only it would stop imposing its AU on the world...

Cloud Kicker and Cloudchaser are different pones. Cloudchaser is Flitter's twin.
begins
As mean as Spike is being to Lero. It is still pretty much in character. He is such a child.
I'm gonna venture a guess that the spell is too complicated for Lyra to carry out.
2780806
I said Cloudkicker. :P
2779575
Thanks! Cloudchaser pretty much has no canon personality outside of "Weatherpony" and "Wonderbolt Cadet", so when filling out her character, I threw in a bit of Cloudkicker because I thought it was funny.

Someone suggested that Pony civilization was much more advanced before the Age of Discord, but much knowledge was lost in that time, so we have schizophrenic levels of technology, because some information survived and others didn't.
2779891
Oh, man, you have no idea. This is the final journal of Starswirl, it's crammed full of spells that can save the world or damn it. The princesses have been keeping ahold of it in case of need of the former.
2780084
Yeah, Luna's gonna start doing things that in Lero's mind elevates her to status of "Best Princess" outside of the two-way tie with Cadence she currently holds simply by virtue of not being Celestia. Of course, she promptly falls into second place when his wife becomes one, but that's hardly her fault.
2780606
Yeah, sometimes people forget Spike is essentially a very small child- while very smart and well-spoken (He *is* a dragon, after all), he lacks both experience and emotional maturity, which causes him to tend to act both manipulative and childish when dealing with things he feels strongly about.
And yeah, the Spell is pretty clever when it has to be, Rarity's past is probably going to be it's masterpiece, as you'll see.
2780806
Hence it being a tribute rather than a cameo.
2782925
Yeah, not enough power, Lyra's been pretty consistently depicted in Xeno as not having much magical strength, but incredible level of control over what power she has.
Grrrr! Spike, you little green-eyed twerp! This messing with Dashie and rubbing Lero's nose in it can only come back to bite your tail off by the entire herd!
And that is a frighteningly good reason for why Big Mac hasnt' been undoing Pinks messes and keeping her on-task! I have a rather nasty suspsicion Discord created that monster type in the age of chaos with a silly name like that.. The worse suspicion is he sent such an impossibly rare beast to "keep Big Mac from accidentally setting off Pinkie Pie". Yeah, Discord had better find a deep dark hole to hide in for a few months, abusing Big Mac like that to keep up the lie. Poor Abby, she's going to be resentful and rebellious to AJ for months if a mindwipe isnt used.

From what I see, a lot of the tech that wars would have advanced seem to be lagging. (Medicine seems to be an exception simply because magic accidents, Pegasus crashes, and "random kaiju monster" attacks are so devistating...)
My take is there has been no drain of casualties forcing anypony to innovate and replace what Unicorns do in communications with radio and TV instead. In my own "Space Ponies" tale, TV is just a curiosity currently in the experimental stages by some wierdo Unicorn Mages and curious Griffons.
Other than electronic music created by innovative Unicorns like Vinyl Scratch, their Entertainment industry seems to be about 1930-'35 level, except the movie special effects would be greatly enhanced by illusionist unicorns during filming.
We had 2 and 3-color process moves beginning in the late 1920s, but no remotely practical TV until the late1930s. The Berlin Olympic games in 1936 were the first Olympics ever televised.
TVs werent within reach of the average person untill after WW2, when the wartime innovations that put TVs in bombs and gun turrets also made them practical and cheap enough for joe sixpack.
Oh shit
Stuff be getting a bit insane
2779891
That will be a hard one to pull off, and live!
I suspect both halves of the Diarchy have strong emotional ties to that book, because that had been Starswirl's last try at uplifting himself to Alicorn status. I suspect they see what could have been with that book, an immortal herd with the stallion they may have loved, a stallion who would not wither and die like an old flower as he did.
And once Cadence gets wind of what happened to Twily, I dont think she would be inclined to let anypony who destroys that book remain in the land of the living either. It's clear while Shining Armor is not as powerful as Twilight, he is definitely the second-most powerful unicorn alive given what he did in "Canterlot Wedding" and setting up the shield that Cadence maintained in "Crystal Empire.
He is thus powerful enough to buckle down in his studies with Cadence's coaching, with the goal of Ascension to Alicorn status for the sake of his eternal love, Cadence -as long as that book is in existance, they have that chance.
If its gone, Someone is gonna have angry princesses out for blood...
2785799 This could actually be an entire subplot where Lero and even Twilight confronts Celestia about the insane danger everyone and the town was placed under because of Starswirls spell. With Twilight recognized as an equal on her mentor's level now, they might finally get some answers.
So big mac basically had a run in with a Gelatinous cube right?
wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG201.jpg
2786702
Like that, but less cube-like. More formless and truly fluid... a REAL formidable monster.
2786956 The blob?
2787064
It IS similar to that, basically.
If there is one thing that differentiates a flork from The Blob, it's this: while their appetite IS horrifyingly large, (they're actually capable of eating a LOT more than just a few pigs,) it's not inexhaustible... they DO get full, at a certain point.
That... and florks are possessed of a certain animalistic degree of cleverness.
Not unlike Mr. 7.
2785678
As an author, I rewatched Magical Mystery Cure and asked myself: what would it SERIOUSLY take for Big Macintosh to NOT BE AROUND while Pinkie's doing all this to his family's farm, day after day?
And I'd answered myself: he'd have to have all four legs crippled at once.
And so I went with that, and played it straight as an arrow.
God, I love this show.
WHAT ABOUT TANK?
> Mac
> Nearly dislocated his knee just last week
This feel. I know it.
2859113 OMG! Yes!! Everyone forgets about Tank! It's just not right.
Somepony is going to get a STERN talking to.

I always figured it was a difference of mass production. Ponies can make a small number of advanced items due to magic and individual special talents, but they never really had an industrial revolution to kick things off into mass standardised production. So you can have a movie theatre because its worth it to make a single device that can entertain lots of ponies, and you may have a pony whose special talent is running the projector, but for tv you need to mass produce lots of near identical technological items, distirbute them and broadcast.
