Looks like someone has been found and now for more learning.
I honestly didn't see that coming. I'm glad to see that twilight has forgiven the princesses, but I'm still trying to figure out what that last bit of prophesy was. Overall good story, and thank you for writing.
Hmm... is Twilight transformation a foreshadowing?
Traitor Ponies? Shadow run amok? Books burning?
She's a firin' her lazor! I suppose the 'sunny' Twilight appeared much like the Twilight from the 'big doozy' in the Pinkie Keen episode?
Well shit. I knew harbinger was a dick, but wow."Assuming direct control of the night" is a little crazy, even for him
Then suddenly!
That guard should be sent to the moon!
That made my head hurt.
Awesomeness.
I eagerly await more. This chapter had the perfect balance of TwiLuna and Archmagery.
Is shield magic one of the six magic schools the archmage has to learn? I'm trying to remember them all, but all I can think of is Friendship, Love, Darkness, and Nature.
This continues to amaze. New transformation for Twilight? I would assume that, one day, she will be able to transform at will? I'm glad that she forgave Luna and Celestia. That would have made every time she performed her duties rather awkward. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the next chapter and what Twilight will learn next. Here, have a .
Wheee plot twist! Didn't see that coming! He kinds lost it pretty quickly there, hopefully Night Dancer is much less unhinged than Harbinger was. I wonder if any of these conspiracy ponies noticed Celestia's goading of Luna and telling her she reminds her of her mistakes. Maybe they thought they were on bad terms because of it. Even still Luna doesn't really need the kind of press they're going to give her right now. I can see the headlines now: Councilpony found to be part of conspiracy to bring Luna to sole power and eternal darkness! Not going to be a good night for Luna.
I'm also wondering exactly how they're going to bring the night eternal. It appears the Night won't let any of them go Nightmare Moon without some serious ramifications for their magic, which I would assume would have the same importance as an arm, and Luna doesn't want to fight Celestia, or at least doesn't want to fight Celestia yet. So any plan they'd have would have to deal with Celestia, and the public backlash, and a Luna who doesn't really care for what they're doing. Given that they don't even know Luna's positive disposition towards Celestia, judging from Harbinger's reaction, this is a plan that's probably going to get fucked six ways from sunday the second it takes off. In fact, this is probably a really stupid group of ponies if a high ranking leader (he's a councilpony, he's gotta be high ranking...right?) doesn't have a good grasp on Luna's feelings on the matter. Unless they're zealots who don't care about themselves. In which case they'll probably try and kill Celestia straight out. Better get a taste tester Celestia...
I'm also wondering who exactly Celestia was in love with, or possibly in love with. Discord maybe? Probably won't be addressed but that's fine.
Also, I wonder how Harbinger would feel knowing that Luna and Twilight were in a relationship. The "mortal connection" to their goddess, as it were. She'd be great for publicity. Given her level of power with shadow magic I'm somewhat surprised they didn't make subtle attempts to recruit her before. Or one of the other Elements of Harmony. Heck, they could probably kidnap/kill Rarity or Pinkie Pie fairly easily. Ooooh Now that I think about it, Harbinger could have just blown the whole plan for them, they could have tried to recruit her, but not anymore now that she's in the know.
In summary, I did not see this coming, this plan is fucked if Luna's not on board, and they probably should have tried to recruit Twilight before this.

and I see what you did there. (goes to play mass effect 2 and 3 for like the millionth time)
So were Harbinger and Crest lovers? Seems like that they way you wrote it.
Like was said before, this took me by surprise but it makes sense that is a faction that would like Luna over Celestia. I cant wait to see where this goes, so much cool stuff going on right now. The counsel, the prophesy, the deadline, the Twi/Luna, Celestia/noone, new replacement counsel members... good thing this story has a good update rate or I might go crazy with all the suspense.

glad someone saw it.
Now I want to play ME3 too, but sadly, my Xbox is at home, while I'm stuck at university.
1920788
hate is one
WOW! Considering how powerful Twilight has shown herself to be already, calling Celestia a traitor was a VERY poor choice of words!!!
And he burned books!!! I am surprised Twilight didn't kill him outright for that!
1920646 and from when she drank the hotsauce in the pilot episode (The Mare In the Moon/Friendship is Magic Part 1)
Twilight is best Rapidash.
Ten bits say that Moondancer is one of those ponies involved in some plot to get Luna in charge as sole ruler of Equestria.
Before I continue reading, one of them is named Yellow Jacket? I think that's a bar and grill down the road a bit.
EDIT: Awesome chapter as always. Still waiting for Twilight and Luna to get it on, though...
Guard who? Should probably be written as 'the Guard' to clarify that we are in fact, talking about the whole group referenced as the Guard, and not some single guard.
OCD, AWAYYY-!
Holy shit I love this, Evil Cults make everything better!
This story is so awesome! I love it!
Since you made the night an actual being, I wonder if the same goes for the day.
And we all know that drawing that much power from the day would obviously have consequences.
I like how the Archmage position is one of balance. It really fits. And I suppose it's also the direct opposition to chaos.
Speaking of chaos, what happened to Twilight's position as the bearer of the magic element? Is she still the wearer of the tiara thing?
I liked this chapter. Though a few things started to bother me from the last chapter. When did Twilight become so serious and official? Not that I don't like it but it felt a bit sudden. Maybe the whole deal with the death of her parents and the troubles with her relationship changed her? I suppose that's probably the most plausible answer. There I go answering my own questions. I so good. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/shrug_Twilight_Sparkle.png
Keep up the good work.
books! hundreds of old books!
Now, I could be crazy and picking up signals that aren't there...
I'm curious about that little line there, that suggested something besides the obvious of Celetia's gesture. And drawing back on the conversation between Harbinger and Twilight, how Harbinger thought that day and night would eventually clash, and how Twilight was sure nothing would come between Celestia and Luna, even in secret.
Twilight is the border between day and night, so why should only the night enjoy Twilight?
1920806
She may forgive them, but they still have a lot to do to pay up for how they hurt her, and if Twilight will do a mistake, princesses has no right to punish her or not forgive her after them doing mistakes after mistakes themselves.
wooooohoooo way to go twilight, that is some bad ass magic there.
1920788
Shield is not one of the schools of magic, think of the schools as more of where the power comes from than what kind of spells are used.
the schoools are light, shadow, love, hate, nature... and something else that I forgot
1921928 Twilight became serious and official because she was pissed off at both of the princesses, but she still had to spend time with them. So she spent all of her time around them as The Archmage, and only The Archmage.

I like this logic...
Evil plot is bigger than Celestia's plot!
Onward and forward!
Okay...this started out kinda rough but I stuck with it. I'm glad I did. This is amazing
All of the following to you:
Nice. I like this revelation.
A good story just got 20 % cooler... yet again! I'm in love with this, seriously, everyday, nay, several times a day, I check to see if there's a new chapter. I have patience, I just feel the excitement rushing trough me every time I see a new chapter is up. This is just totally awesomesamus!
awesome chapter! twilight was quite badass in this chapter. i like the little bit of possible twilestia in there.
1922040
as iroh said: i like this logic!
and i thought celestia reading a detailed retelling about twilight and luna's sexlife in the prophesy was bad, if it's actually like that; imagine their thoughts upon seeing a detailed rendition about twi fucking celestia in there, that hasn't even happened yet!...
I'm gonna LOL if Bastion turns out to be a traitor.
So... I'm curious. How much of this was "oh hey, this is a cool system of magic, I wish I had a story to wrap it in!", and how much was "oh hey, this is a great story... it just needs a cool system of magic!"? As someone who spends a lot of time thinking about magic and how it works in Ponyworld, I'd like to know.
1922240 That is one massive plot indeed
“Please inform Silver Tongue, Yellow Jacket, Night Dancer, and Silvia Noctem that they are summoned to my personal library immediately.”
Atta boy Yellow Jacket! Go make me proud!
Later....
Aww..... He didn't get the job....
Just out of curiosity, does Twi commanding the obscene amounts of light magic look like the 'I'm about to explode from frustration and thus will spontaneously combust' Twi?
No Harbinger moment for you, little pony, in spite of your name.
I see what you did there, even if it wasn't intentional.
Harbinger: "Assuming Control!"
(Twi): "Nope!"
And thus we have confirmation that Twilight's last name is actually Shepard.
1923229
I've thought a lot of magic in the various pony worlds! And Psionics, too!
1923229
This story started out as a challenge. Iroh bet me I couldn't write a Twilight story very well. So I set out to prove him wrong. He hopped on board to preread everything, and it sort of developed into this... As for the system of magic, I drew inspiration from Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. Having said that, I think I find a healthy balance between both. The system of magic in this story is one that I've had for quite some time (And I have used in other stories of mine) and the plot just happened to fit with the system.
As it stands, I haven't delved completely into how the magical system works.
1925844
I don't remember ever challenging you. Pushing you into doing it maybe...
If there is one other thing I could relate this story to, it would be Avatar: The Last Airbender. Opinions?
1925844
HA! I totally called the Goodkind after the prophecy discussion. I love those books.
Exciting and dramatic chapter! Keep up the good work!
1920841
Harbinger and Golden Crest, are simply put, Gay.
If you don't believe me, well i'm sorry but i have evidence! During the chapter where twilight first met the two of them golden crest said this line: "We are partners in more ways than one." I rest my case.
1921184
The suspense! is it a bar near you!? If so, DOES LOYAL LIVE NEAR YOU? If so, tell him we want more twiluna and to update faster!
1929162
1925844
Okay, I just gotta say, that while I love both Loyal's story and emrlddrgn's story so goddamn much, I freaking loathe the Sword of Truth series and I'm glad that the only thing you took from it was the idea of magical balance and to a lesser extent prophecy. Seriously, that series went and started out excellent with the first three books, okay with the fourth, then went batshit crazy for four books and turned into a Objectivist fan fiction disguised as a fantasy series before trying to pull it back together in the last three books. Objectivism is just so damn annoyingly stupid, boring and should never have been thrown into the Sword of Truth. Evil pacifists. A statue that causes a city wide rebellion and weeping just from being shown and destroyed. That horribly boring philosophical drivel in Soul of the Fire. Hated. It. All. /endrant
1938319
Aww thanks ! I shall spare you my natural sarcastic reaction. Probably for the best, FimFiction really isn't a place for serious non-pony discussions, and I doubt Loyal would thank us...
A few things to address. 1) I like how we got to see twilight fight with her large amounts of magic. 2) evil cults? Hell yeah! 3) I like this chapter also because it felt (to me) like how the story should be. Minimal clop and lots of awesome.
1988473
I'm not saying I disagree with your 3rd statement, I completely understand what you're saying. But honestly, it's part of the story. It allows you to more deeply understand the emotion behind the scenes. Don't look at it like a clop section like so many people would, but more as something to help you more vividly understand exactly what's going on emotionally for everypony it effects. I can only say this because I'm not a clopper and that's exactly how I read it in the first place, nothing more than that :p

Let me just say, I absolutely love your profile picture.
That is all.
1920813 Celestia had to have had a mate somewhere. We can't forget about Blueblood, even if he IS a prick.
If Blueblood isn't Celestia's son, we haven't met his real parents. Assuming he can't be Luna's (she would have to have gotten someone pretty fast for Blueblood to be how old he is, and even then it's impossible: Rarity speaks of him the episode after Nightmare), who is he? He IS a prince, right? Prince under whom? For the longest time, I've wanted to say Celestia, but the show canon doesn't point out (as far as I can remember) any family detail connecting the two...
No. Tia got banged somewhere in there.
Adding on that (assuming the theory is correct), Alicorn mating mustn't be that historic. If Cellie can do it, why can't Cadence? Don't demote Shining Armor, make him think maybe he's incapable of... y'know... fertilizing Cadance's eggs...
