Applejack left the fairground with her head high, trying to retain what she felt was the remainder of her dignity. It was a task made difficult thanks to a rainbow-colored leech currently wrapped around one of her back legs in a tightening grip.
āI canāt recall the last time Iāve ever been so insulted.ā Applejack said, breaking the tense silence.
Rainbow Dash responded immediately by squeezing tighter around her marefriendās leg in an attempt to slow her down. Her new career path as a fleshy anchor wasnāt off to a good start, however, as Applejack kept dragging her across the ground with each exaggerated pull. āCome on, Applejack,ā Rainbow finally whined. āI said I was sorry. Itā¦ it was an accident.ā
Applejack didnāt slow down, but she shot Dash a downward glance. āAn accident, huh? What, like you tripped and yer mouth just happened to end up there?ā
āIt was just a one-time thing. It didnāt mean anything, I swear,ā Dash defended.
āI reckon Iām the only one whoās allowed ta swear right now, and Iāll have plenty more swears for ya later tonight,ā Applejack said with a hard edge in her voice. āSuppose I shouldnāt be surprised none. That mareās got āTartā in her name for ponyās sake!ā
āOk, now youāre just being ridiculous.ā Dash gritted her teeth. The ground was starting to wear away at her coat. If she kept hanging on, sheād eventually end up with a bald belly.
āAm not.ā
āYou didnāt mind when our other friends were doing it,ā Dash tried to reason.
āThey aināt my marefriend, Rainbow,ā Applejack said with an angry huff. āYa do somethinā like that in public, howās it gonna look on me?ā
āOkay, okay, I get it,ā Dash finally relented. āWhatās it going to take to get me out of the doghouse? ā¦Iāll help with farm chores tomorrow. Iāll read bedtime stories to the saplings you just planted.ā
That almost got Applejack to smile. Almost. āDonāt you try nunna that fancy sweet talk on me now.ā With one last forceful tug, Applejack at last freed her leg, leaving Rainbow Dash face down in the grass. She tilted her head back at the prone pegasus. āWeāre havinā a nice, long talk back at the farmhouse tonight, yāhear?ā
Rainbow groaned at Applejackās receding figure. After a minute, she felt the earth shake from vibrations of steady hoofsteps drawing nearer. From the force of each impact, she guessed who it was.
Big Macintosh nudged Rainbow with a toe as a way of greeting. āAJ saw ya eat one'a Pear Tartās turnovers, didnāt she?ā
āEeeeeyyyyyyyup.ā
āYa know my sisā gets mighty particular ābout her baking, right? āSpecially when sheās competinā fer a blue ribbon?ā
āEeeeeyyyyyyyup.ā
Big Mac quickly looked from side to side, making sure no one else was around, before leaning close to Dash. āWere they worth it?ā
Dash cracked one eye open and lifted her head, a half smile forming across her muzzle. āSo. Bucking. Delicious.ā
