On an otherwise ordinary day at Sweet Apple Acres, Rainbow Dash unexpectedly demands the use of Applejack's barn for a day. Of course Applejack agrees to help out, but something's up; Dash is trying to handle everything herself, arrange for the Apples to be out in the fields, and doing her best to make sure neither Rarity nor Pinkie even hear about the whole thing. With her suspicions rising by the minute, the farmer goes to confront her friend and discovers something she never suspected...

Rainbow Dash is a headstrong, athletic pony who is utterly faithful to her friends and doesn't keep any secrets from them. Or so she pretends. Yet a surprise visit from Twilight Sparkle is about to blow the secret wide open, and the multi-hued pegasus will find out just how strong their friendship is.

Note: This story was written in the week following the airing of "May The Best Pet Win", and well before "Read It and Weep" was even known about. As such it haws since been overtaken by canon, but most folk tend to like it still so I will upload it here so I have a bit of a presence on FIMfiction beyond "lurker #347,921".

This story also includes "The Unrelated Epilogue" which is a mini-story based on a loose bit in the main one that I felt did not stand on its own, but that I wanted up nonetheless. It has Luna, but not RD or TS.

Twilight Sparkle discovers Rainbow Dash crying. It's not only odd that she should catch her hard core friend shedding tears, but it's the place where she's doing it. Rainbow sits in the charred remains of a cabin in the hills holding nothing but a blanket and a bloodied piece of cloth...

Rainbow Dash is a carefree stuntsmare who lives for danger. But it hits too close to home when she is diagnosed with a fatal disease. Zecora has a potion that can save her life but is the price for the cure too much for her to bear?

Solutions to war, famine, disease and societal collapse are not easily happened upon. For Celestia and Luna, the solution was a mystery for eons, until their top six battle mages forged a plan from their very essence. To unite their absolute individual powers into one worthy host. One who could put an end to the horrors plaguing the budding nation of Equestria.

Only one pony was ever worthy. His deeds and heroism ultimately culled evil and hatred from Equestria and allowed peace to reign. After this achievement, the power vanished of its own accord upon the natural death of its wielder.

However, it seems that something in the shadows has provoked the lost power's return in the form of a new carrier, and she's going to find out her true destiny through a series of literal trials by fire.

Tirek is gone and so is the library, but Twilight Sparkle can't stop thinking about them. Is she playing the part she wants to play? Are her desires all the same as her mentor's? Has ascension truly helped her to spread the magic of friendship? To answer these questions she must turn to her friends, her mentor, and a more uncertain source: her heart.
