MythrilMoth

LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

Sequels2

E

This story is a sequel to Memories Don't Burn

The library is gone. Princess Twilight Sparkle has a new home...one that needs a lot of work.

She also has a lot of questions. Questions about her new role in Equestria, the part her friends will play in it...and whether or not she should assume rulership over Ponyville.

This is a sequel to Memories Don't Burn, but also an interquel, as it expands upon events between that story's first and last scenes.

Ponyville: the only royal domain that elected its princess.

I'm not too happy with the idea of Ponyville running well in spite of Mayor Mare rather than because of her. Running a town full of insane ponies right next to the local eldritch forest and an afternoon's trot from the gates of Tartarus seems like a chore for even the best administrators. Still, I can't deny that you make a good argument. In any case, I look forward to more.

Lol this is what we're all thinking

please continue the story and maybe give the main 6 some new government jobs that would be so cool:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

4639515 There's more coming. :) Not until probably Sunday or Monday though, because I've still got to finish this week's chapter of Tomodachi.

Well, wonder where this will go. Also, 'Polly?' As in, a shout-out to 'Pollyanna?' (Not that I'm criticizing. It's just, if it were the case, I'm just surprised that anyone would use it. Not a lot of people I know have... that kind of knowledge at their fingertips. :twilightblush:)

Liked and Favorited. I've been looking for ages for a "what happens next" story for after the season 4 finally. While there have been some, most have been short 1 shots or dark alternate endings. This is the first ongoing and realistic take I have seen and it is a welcome sight.
Its also well written and everyone is in perfect character. I eagerly look forward to more.

Or maybe she is doing a good job... by not doing anything. Ponyvillians take care on their own, so she doesn´t need to give orders or to put taxes on them. The perfect government for an utopic setting.

"I was just wondering..." Spike picked at his hay fries. "Does Twilight rule Ponyville now?"
The table fell silent.
Celestia blinked. "I...hadn't given that any thought," she admitted. "With the recent events, and what with the preparations for the furnishing of Twilight's new palace, I have not yet given any real thought to the matter of...well..."

Seriously, Celestia, all of this shit just to elevate Twilight into an alicorn princess, and you didn´t think about giving her a kingdom? what was all the singing with Luna and Cadence for, then?

4640163 I'm amazed you'd extrapolate something that...so completely not where I was going with that, and ignore the blatantly obvious pun... (hint: say "Polly Mare" out loud.)

4640771 Well to be fair, she wasn't expecting to suddenly be slapped in the face with a giant centaur dick, get locked in Tartarus, watch Equestria go straight down the toilet, then have Twilight and her friends rainbow said centaur back to hell, and follow it up with a giant crystal tree palace growing out of Ponyville's ass.

I mean, it was kind of a weird day, all around. :pinkiecrazy:

4640773 *shrugs* My mind works differently than most folks. (Neither better nor worse, just differently).

4640783

Seems to me Major Mare is not the only incompetent around :ajbemused:

4640787 Fair enough. But no, there's no deep hidden meaning behind the name. It's just a really bad pun ("polymer").

4640789 Celestia's not incompetent, she's just a massive victim of The Worf Effect. And again, she had NO way of seeing the whole Tirek thing and its aftereffects coming...it's understandable that she'd be brought up a bit short in the aftermath.

She was probably planning to gradually ease Twilight into a princessly role...after all, look how long it took Cadance to get her own kingdom. (At least 15 years, if my mental math based on sketchy extracurricular canon holds...)

I can see this either going boring and okay...or hilariously bad!

I man think about it, you've got Twilight Sparkle and all her...stuff that would take too long to list, taking over a town where the citizenry is used to having the place pretty much run in a working state of anarchy for even Celestia doesn't know how long. Hell, half the town just ignores the tax codes.

I predict an uprising inside a week.

4641478

Just my point. As Lord Vetinari says: "Si non confectus, non reficiat"

#treeisdownbuttwiligtisstilltwilight

"I'm going to leave it up to them to decide."

"I am now announcing my desire to take over, do you, citizens of the town I have protected time and time again, who are conditioned to bow to anything with both a horn and wings without thought, accept me as your leader?"

"Oh good, not a single pony had a problem with the government of our town suddenly changing ownership to somepony who's qualifications are having both a horn and wings, and enough power to do pretty much anything if I were to ever go evil. Even though I've never displayed anything even resembling knowing how to be a ruler over people not my friends, and buildings have a tendency to uproot in an explosion whenever I'm upset, which is often, I'm sure they made this completely informed decision not because they were still giddy over not being enslaved, but because they rationally thought it through and decided I was the best possible choice. I surely won't have revolutions on my hooves once all of the excitement dies down."

There's probably a reason not many ponies knew too much about Nightmare Moon, like the fact that she was real, more powerful than Celestia, and could totally happen to any other alicorn under the right conditions. Wouldn't want people to think that about Celestia, right?

I don't even normally support the Tyrant!Celestia theory, but in this story, it all adds up to that. Somehow.

Hah! That bit with Fluttershy was hilarious.
4641849
But they're not accepting her as a leader just because she's an Alicorn. It was just said that people have been going to her since Winter Wrap-up. Long before she became a princess. Being a princess just makes the official transition easier.

I find the dialogue about Mayor Mare to be extremely out of character as well as unfair. it also is out of sync with the continuity with "Memories Don't Burn"

4640790 LOL, I thought it was a play on the word 'polis,' Greek for 'city.'

I thought M.Mare's name would be Ivory Scroll.
Also knowing Twilight she's thinking about Flash Sentry.

Very good!!! :pinkiehappy: Continue!

That scene with Big Mac and Smarty Pants hit me the hardest in this. It just...it felt like something that needs to happen. And, given how the makers of the show have been with tie ins to past episodes and connecting them to recent events, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they included that scene in Season 5 as part of an episode with the theme "you don't have to let go of childhood to grow up", or something like that.

I'm also somewhat surprised how easily the entire town shifted from "we have a Mayor" to "we have a Princess". Not that it doesn't make perfect sense, but given it's a small town, I expected some ponies to complain just for the sake of complaining.

4643127 As has been mentioned, the presence of the two most powerful ponies in Equestria at that little "election" pretty much killed any possibility of dissent. Not that this even occurred to Twilight, but it's kind of obvious when you think about it.

Not bad at all.

4642310
Excellent point. Yes, the Arch-Demon-Slayer standing in the shadow of the God-Princess-Of-The-Dawn part was a probable factor, but if Sparkle had not been showing Mare up since she was a unicorn grad student the acclimation would have been noticeably more pro-forma.

4640797

Not to mention that Cadence's wasn't even planned for. It just sort of happened that an old kingdom appeared, and after killing its leader there was a vacancy in the top bunk.

Buncha cool ideas here. I like the Furnish Rush Celestia initiated, the Fluttershy joke from waaaaaaay back in Season 1, and the Smarty Pants scene. That bit makes me wonder if there are any other pieces of Golden Oak paraphernalia that were given away throughout the series.

"I'll try not to let you down, Your Highness," Polly said.
"Oh, and one more thing..."
"Yes, Your Highness?"
"Please stop dying your mane. You don't really want to look like an old grey mare, do you?"
Polly laughed. "I'll think about it."

Ever since the episode with Gabby Gums, I've always wondered why Mayor Mare dyes her hair grey.

4645918 Probably because she thinks it makes her look distinguished and authoritative.

4646003 Eh. But seriously, after reading this, I realize that she REALLY does NOTHING.

4646012 I know, right? It's crazy!

The aftermath of Tirek's tyranny is well handled. It'll take time for the Mane 6 (mostly Twilight) to adjust to their new castle. I look forward to new chapters.

4640797

The thing is, anyone who was remotely sane would have made their first priority upon hearing from their student that the Guardian to Hell itself was apparently absent from it's post and wandering around the countryside to clear their entire schedule for the foreseeable future. Then go grab your sister, maybe your niece too, filly's gotta learn how to do the hard parts of being a princess sooner or later. You never know, maybe Cadence will learn something while watching her aunts put down a prison riot that will help her defend herself or her loved ones in the future.

Then grab whatever magical weapons and armor you happen to have gathering dust in your castle, and teleport directly to the Gates of Tartarus with a full company of cannon fodder.. err the Royal Guard. And check each and every cell in the prison just to make sure that it does, in fact, still contain a prisoner within. And if any of them happen to be missing, like a certain centaur? Do not stop the manhunt till they are found, dead or alive. Unless of course, Twilight never told Celestia or any other authority about the whole incident with Cerberus. In which case one could make an argument if they were so inclined that Twilight is guilty of Treason.

4643910
I suspect that Celestia has been pretty good at reading the signs... When Twilight showed up with the star from the Tree of Harmony as her Cutie Mark, Celestia knew what to expect from the filly. Likewise, I imagine she was waiting for the Empire to return from the day she first saw that Cadance had the Crystal Heart as her Cutie Mark.

I think she probably did plan on bequeathing the old Castle of the Two Sisters to Twilight since it was over the Tree of Harmony though... So even if she tries to anticipate things, she doesn't always see every twist (or new giant tree castle) coming.

If wasn't broken Twilight, don't fix it. Sorry, but I'm going to be be one of those that oppose the princess's proposition. Sure it might be embarrassing be the only one or few with their arms raised when she says "Any opposed." You would think there would be. Going to agree with the previous posters that Ponyville pretty much runs itself and honestly, this all started to happen once Twilight showed up. So you really can't fault the mayor and she just gave up without a fight or atleast to explain herself. Plus there are some counter arguments to the mane six's opinion on the mayor.

4648987

Good point, I keep forgetting Lovebutt's heart is the Crystal Heart.

Great story
needs more chapters

4657610 And more chapters are coming, so please be patient. :twilightsheepish:

Why did I decide to read this now? I mean, I saw that there was only one chapter, and that it was marked as incomplete... Add the fact that I am not quite as patient as I would like to think I am, and you might get where I'm coming from... Though I will try to be patient for future chapters.

I wish I were better with actually making constructive comments, but for now, I want you to know that I found this chapter (as well as the prequel story, though I didn't comment there) to be quite an enjoyable read, and one that got a bit emotional for me in places.

I believe that Polly is okay with Twilight taking over, but I don't buy that that vote didn't sting a bit. Don't mistake that for critism though, I think she just hid that it hurt a little as she recognizes it's the most appropriate course of action. Great story, can't wait for more.

Very good, I look forward to new chapters. Also please give Spike his own room in the castle.

 Hmm, very interesting turn of events as to what happens to Mayor Mare and whether or not Ponyville actually becomes a kingdom. Great job!

That ending was perfect!

Awesome chapter! Can't wait for more! really love the idea, there needs to be more stories like this one! :pinkiehappy: keep up the good work!

That was awesome. Enough said.

daw :rainbowlaugh:
I didn't tough it could be, but this chapter is even better then the previous :pinkiehappy:

keep the good work :yay:

Okay, so if I had this story in my favorites in order to check on it's progress, why didn't I get a notification that a new chapter was up? I just happened to see this on the recently updated section of the home page...

Also, why can't we give individual chapters a thumbs up? Because I would definitely give this story another green thumb.
