Our girl Sunset often does things with negative ramifications, but in her mind, she sees the alternative as worse.
On the plus side, Horizon is turning out to be a good kid.
THREE YEARS??? Im sorry, but I better see Sci-Twi slap the princess after this. Sunset missed not only 3 years with her wife(who hasnt even looked at the journal apparently, though I can kinda understand to a degree cause the Princess never wrote back until that night, but still) BUT 3 YEARS WITH HER OWN DAUGHTER!!! Like with Amy Pond and River Song, that is time she can never get back! She missed all the important things in her child's growing up, and she can never get those back... The Princess, yes was desperate, but she was kinda a jerk about it, and she KNEW that Sunset had a wife and a daughter now, and she STILL told Sunset to abandon them to fight a war that she had nothing to do with! Honestly, Id jump into the story and punch the Princess herself for that... Please have Sunset deal the final blow to the demon, being A ROYALLY PISSED MOTHER for having to fight her and losing all this time with her baby.

The position of a Princess isn’t always a favorable one. In Princess Twilight’s case, she realized in order to give her nation a fighting chance she had to risk making enemies with Sunset. She was willing to take that risk because as a Princess you have to put the needs of the many before the needs of the few.
There is no doubt that Sunset is pissed at the Princess and that this will have negative consequences for all involved down the road.
Assuming Sunset survives her time in Equestria, a lot of things will need to be addressed before act VII.
I think I need to sit down for a while after the curveball this story just threw at me. I have absolutely no idea what's going on anymore. Sunset's been gone for three years? Three years and not a word to Sci-Twi? It just doesn't make sense. Not after all the crap Sunset went through to build her family. It's like she hasn't learned anything at all. All those lessons she learned about relying on others and trusting your friends, it just got thrown out the window.
It's like she doesn't care about her family and friends.
Yeah, you could say that saving Equestria is important. But I think the story doesn't touch on just how much a child can influence one's thoughts. This is something my mother once told me a very long time ago and I will probably remember it for the rest of my life.
When you have a child, it changes everything. Your entire worldview changes. It is no longer about just you anymore. Every decision is no longer "how will it affect me", but rather "how will it affect my child".
I refuse to believe that Sunset would leave, just like that. No goodbye, no farewell. Just a simple letter and out through the door. Especially after what Twilight said to her.
I believe, the politest thing Sunset would have done after that guilt trip, was to tell Twilight to go fuck herself and then turned around and went home to her family. The least politest thing would have been something along the lines of beating Twilight to within an inch of her life and then tossing her back through the portal.
I do not care how justified Twilight felt. There are things you don't do to a friend. No matter what. Stabbing Sunset in the gut and twisting the knife like that ... friends don't do such things. That is something an enemy would do. If you do something like that to a friend, you don't deserve to live.
Personally, I would do my best to make sure Serenade won, just to spite Twilight. Hell, once Sunset finds out she's been gone for three years, I'd be surprised if she didn't burn Equestria to the ground by herself.
I do hope that the three year skip is a dream or something like that. It just doesn't feel right.
To be honest, Sunset leaving for Equestria feels like a complete and total butchery of her character. All the progress, all the lessons she has learned over the course of the story. It's like it never happened.
Sorry if this comment feels like it's all over the place, but this is how I feel after reading these last few chapters. The way Twilight manipulated Sunset, the way Sunset left her family without a single word.... It felt so strange, so weird, I honestly, truly, feel dizzy at the moment.
I know I'm far from catching up and that there's more to get through, but this chapter is really making hard to not want to cry.

Throughout writing the later acts, I felt like such a jerk toward Sunset and her family. :c
