I must admit, all this sort of makes me think Shimmer isn't dead. I don't know why I feel like that, but I just do. I kind of want that to be true, but I'm not holding my breath for it. And I'm almost 100% positive Ghost is actually Chrysalis. Or some other villian. Or Shimmer (ooohh, now that's an idea).
I should really stop now, before my hopes get way too high, and none of them end up being met. Still, I can't help but wonder if this'll have a happy, sad, or really, really dark ending.
NOW! I want to leave a little review!
Sunset seems to be going down a superhero origin story, and it is slowly starting to be over used. Still, the way her 'friends' are reacting, it might vary from the typical X's family's dead, X want revenge, so X trains themselves to defeat/kill this one person.
Regardless, I like how Celestia factoring to all of this, but I can't help but compare her to a councillor. Trying to help people out, but being rejected because they're too impartial (that's my experience, anyway). I kind of what Luna to come into this, maybe she can relate, using whatever your equivilent to Nightmare Moon is. Or maybe that's why Celestia can relate...?
Also, I am loving the potential dark magic influence that could be introduced into this. That can go in so many directions and it is delicious!
Anyway, great chapter, keep it up!

Given that we are on Act III of a planned VII, I would say we are closer to the "beginning" rather than "the end", much like the universe really. I can't comment too much on anything about Shimmer's death yet, but the subject comes up numerous times down the road.
I wish I could comment more on your little review, agreeing or disagreeing, but that would require revealing information that is not coming for some time. Gah! Blast! I can say there are still many twists left on this journey. Things no one would have expected, and directions that no one would have seen coming.
Dark Magic I can at LEAST reveal is going to play a HUGE role in the overall outcome of how everything plays out. Once you understand its inner workings more, you'll start to understand why it is so strong and why it is so feared.
Oh and I can talk about Celestia! I originally planned her to have a bigger role in the story overall, but given how much was already going on and everything... her role got cut down significantly sadly. However, you can clearly see she and Luna have some backstory that may come out some day in the form of a side story about them.

This is still near the beginning?! Now I can't even predict what might happen. But seven acts, huh? That's more than I thought there would be.
I can't say I blame you for not being able to reveal much - I suspected that what was going to happen.
But, on the bright side: dark magic and trauma and death, YAY!
And I'm looking forward to seeing more of that back story. Thought I somewhat am expecting it to take a darker turn, if a side story does comeout.
Just something else I noticed: Act III isn't named in the desciption.
But again, great job, but, alas, I am left with more questions than I started with. Woe is me!

Holy shit, this is gonna be something around 750,000 words when it's done, assuming your arcs are roughly the same length. That's gotta be kinda intimidating to think about when you are writing. I know as a reader, even if I can much down 100k+ words a day, that number still intimidates me.

Ah the torment of knowing what will happen before everyone else. It sometimes causes me to read these comments and snicker.
Also that was merely a mistake! I shall fix that!

Actually, acts may be getting potentially longer. By the 1/3 mark in Act III, chapters themselves begin to get longer and Act VII alone is going to be... Very long. Act VII originally was intended as a short act, but realizing how many loose ends I had left, I realized that Act VII would need to be vastly longer.
By my estimate, I am going to guess the story will be around 800,000 words or... Possibly longer? It all depends really. There's a lot of details in later Acts.
As for intimidation? Eh, not really. I've read Homestuck and that has 800,000+ words and I felt it was managable. Fallout Equestria is about the length of three books as well.
Currently in the form the story is as I am writing this, Shadows Cast Over the Sunset is TECHNICALLY longer than the first two Harry Potter books combined. I am imagining the final product will be longer than the entire Harry Potter series combined.

You can see how that could be intimidating though. I eagerly await the enjoyment I will have from this series though.

The irony is this story was originally only going to be one Act.
Act I originally was going to be all there was going to be.
Don’t worry about The Darkness, Twi. Pretty sure it’s weak to Magic Missile.

Bro, don’t go using Hussie as a benchmark for a reasonable workload. That way lies madness.
Just noticed something... how the hell is there ONLY just over 100 likes on this?!?!?!?! This amazing story needs more!

Hussie's work I would say isn't that unreasonable in length, but in COMPLEXITY.
I normally don't ask for such things in stories like this...but I hope there's some Deus Ex Machina or some such thing that brings Shimmer back to life. I truly enjoyed her banter with Sunset, Moon Dancer and the rest of the group.
