Hehehehehehehehe
If only you knew what the future held.

One good punch at Mach speed would vaporize Adagio. Even if she didn't hit that hard, there still wouldn't have been a fight. There's literally zero chance of Adagio winning any right with Rainbow unless she's perfectly clairvoyant and we can tell since she lost to something she certainly didn't expect that she's not that.

You're going to get more details later, but to put it in simple terms:
Magic works a big differently than that. Rainbow's magic while strengthened in critical moments by her friends is actually relatively weak. It's strong compared to a normal person without magic obviously, but magic works similar to power in that training, practice and experience make it stronger and increase what you can do with it. At this stage... Rainbow basically has only mastered one discipline.
Now let's remember: Adagio spent the past year or so training her body and more recently her magic. She's spent the last few months doing nothing but training her magic, then we factor in that on top of that she has had hundreds of years to understand the fastest and easiest ways to train magic.
Sure Rainbow may be able to get in a few good punches, but traveling at such a speed, she would run out of steam pretty fast. Adagio's body can take a tremendous amount of damage. In fact you're going to find out about that very soon. There's a lot more to it, but I can't go into too much detail without spoiling things later.
I actually really enjoy your input on the matter though. :P
Hoo boy, there is little more I hate in baddies than the 'I'm the Juggernaut, bitch' thought for them. I get the idea that they're supposed to defeat her with friendship and that dealing with the big bad in the way that makes the most practical and logical sense would take away any impact that may have, it doesn't make it any easier to suspend disbelief. It's for sure better the way it is, and honestly I'm glad that Sunset didn't struggle once she got charged despite that too screaming deus ex, but my brain can't imagine Rainbow, with speed akin to teleportation, being unable to literally smack Adagio so hard that her descendants feel it.
Now I don't remember if they had their geodes, because again too many simultaneous stories, but their abilities state that as a yes, but even weak her speed should be more than enough. I can get that you might not want comic book rules to apply, but The Flash could easily vaporize a person if moving fast enough and hitting them in the process. Hell, if going more than 40 and being directly hit would likely end anything, and you've shown Rainbow capable of doing beyond that, then it goes to show that even at her weakest, she'd be more than a match for anything sub godly and Adagio is clearly not godly.

I can't really say anymore because magic, it's abilities and a lot of the other characters powers and abilities get explained later, so it would be spoiling.
Needless to say, comic book logic isn't really a thing in this world and remember it only states it felt like teleportation. Hyperbole could be being applied here. Not to mention it never explicitly states how strong Adagio was. Only that Sunset's powered up form is stronger. There's nothing to measure either off of at this exact moment. This all goes into more detail later.
Not to mention do keep in mind that it's impossible to think of every possible little loophole with magic and abilities and "close" because readers will always propose 10 new theories of how X could have happened. I mean I am half expecting people to suggest that Rainbow could go so fast that speedforce should be a thing at this point, or that she could go back in time that way and thus undo shit. Or that Applejack with enough strength could punch open the space-time continuum. Hell, I'm half expecting people to suggest Pinkie breaking the fourth wall as a counter argument of why they could have done X instead. It's just one of those things that as a writer, you just have to accept people are going to do because people are always actively looking to poke holes in everything and if you spend so much time trying to cover every possible plothole... The story wouldn't even be entertaining anymore because half of it would just be explaining away plotholes and it kind of robs the fans of the enjoyment of MAKING those holes. Ironically fans enjoy things by proposing these theories thus why I don't mind that they do because I think it's better for people to talk about a story where they can have a few paragraphs to say rather than just "I like it" or "I don't like it" because that says they are at least enjoying it. People enjoy making theories.
Thus why you get to a point where you recognize: plotholes or proposed plotholes are going to happen and when they do, I try to amend the story as much as I can (I have in the past) but only to a certain point to where otherwise we'll be here all eternity. In this case I feel my explanation is sufficient, but that doesn't mean people will accept it as such. That's just one of those things that you have to shrug and say "can't win 'em all". I try my best, and I listen to all feedback, thus why I try to respond as much as I can. It's a delicate line between defending your work and being closed off to feedback, but it's also a delicate line between making necessary changes and recognizing when you are kind of just trying to please every single person which won't be possible. I like to think I try to stay in between both of those lines.
Let's just say though... If you think Rainbow is strong now... Wait until you see Act VII Rainbow Vs. Act III Rainbow.

What about Act MXVIIII Rainbow?
