All I can say is:
Rex. You Magnificent Bastard, I READ YOUR BOOK!!!
i find it rather humorous that rex calls umbra a villian. pot meets kettle. also, rex is becoming overconfident. why show the world what he is when he can show his family. rex claims he loves but there has been more situations where he really only gives a crap about his changelings and only his changelings. what im gathering from this is that humanity is fucked till celestia becomes a gatekeeper; unless that gun exchange was something to go bye she already did. i just feel really bad for selena, shes gonna be the one most harmed by all this crap.

One man's tyrant is another man's benevolent ruler. I also think the line was "villain potential." Still, what do you call a walking mass of hate that burns you with its mere presence?
But yeah, Rex is definitely not the kind of person you'd want to hang out with. Unless you're a changeling.
No, Celestia's not a gatekeeper. Yet.
I disagree on the whole "humanity is fucked" thing. Humanity has:
1) Guns. Lots of guns.
2) Numbers. 7.5 billion humans to 800+ changelings, 1 shadow mage, and 1 alicorn who is too young to fight.
3) Resources. Money, farm space, R&D, etc. Granted, Rex and Victor can leech that, but...
4) Anger and love. Gather enough in one location, and you can mount a defense against one of the two (but strengthen the other).
Rex does love humans... in the same way a farmer loves his prize-winning cow. He still can love, so if he did find a human that genuinely caught his interest, he could truly love him/her (he does actually love Selene, and only takes love from her in small amounts so that she won't notice the drain). But while Victor spreads hate and fear, Rex spreads love and happiness (to eat later). Hypothetically, if a war did start, Rex would do his best to end the fighting and promote peace (in a "save the crops" sort of way.) Of course, this is just me playing devil's advocate here. If I met Rex in person, I would run away screaming.
Jeez this just gets better and better, what a tense chapter. I got goosebumps whilst reading this
Gamble, gambol is jumping playfully.

tia isnt a gate keeper, interesting, also neat pic btw
I've read both versions of this chapter, and I have to say that for a guy who was apparently a crime lord to begin with, Victor seems much more sympathetic than Rex. Before his transformation, Rex was a normal guy with a loving girlfriend, but despite appearing somewhat sad about losing his humanity, he revels in immaturity and poorly thought-out aggression. His relationship with his changelings and Selene seems normal, but to everyone else he's a jerk and a monster.
After hearing about this new King Umbra, I thought he would be worse, especially with what little we know about his background and how he runs things. Given that he essentially told Rex that he wants to take over the world and implied that he was going to help Sombra do the same, his goals and attitude scream 'Well-Intentioned Extremist.' Yet even with his magically shortened temper and crime lord status, he handled himself very well, and was far more patient with Rex's behavior than most would put up with even if they did need his help.
Two things have really been bothering me though. First, I keep wondering whether the love energy was acting strangely because it was magically-induced or synthetic, or because it was laced with a spell that could turn it to poison or something else awful if Umbra has problems with Rex. The other thing is, what has Luna been doing? I thought Rex asked her to search the dream world for Gatekeepers' dreams, but she hasn't appeared much at all, even for being a peripheral character.
Been waiting, glad to see this.
4153530 Yay... Except that changelings have magic, and the shadow mage have a nice little organization. And the humans would probably fight each others instead of teaming up against their ennemies. Paranoia is magic
Still, I wonder what will happen when Discord decide do to something... Or if Cadence become a Gatekeeper
Your art gives the characters very... defined features.
It's better than I can do though. I can only draw nonliving things. Not even a flower, and barely a single leaf.
But if a building, vehicle, spacecraft, or average run-of-the-mill giant death robot needs drawing, it's done in less than three hours.
Aside from my compliment-deprivation-induced self-praise, this is by far my favorite fic. Keep it up!
Or else I'll do a thing.
With the thing.
Or something.
I just realized, no one upvote this story. It's too funny to change!
