This is the story of Trixie, the Element of Magic and the personal student of Princess Luna. It has been some months since this unicorn moved to Ponyville to learn about the magic of friendship, and, more specifically, how to not let her abrasive personality drive away the friends she does make. So far, she has succeeded, becoming a welcome part of Ponyville life, and as such has decided to put on a magic show for Ponyville during the Eventime festival, the celebration of the spring equinox.

However, a certain purple-coated unicorn seems determined to ruin her fun, and everypony elses'. This unicorn has traveled far to learn as much about magic as she can, and was excited to learn at the hooves of the Element of Magic herself. What she finds in Ponyville, however, leaves this purple-coated unicorn...disappointed. She resolves to take drastic steps to show Trixie what real magic is all about!

Her travels having brought her and her friends to the far-north city of Frostvale, Trixie finds herself caught up in a looming war and a dangerous plot. Still just trying to recover, she decides to lay low for a bit and wait for an opening to continue her journey.

Meanwhile, Twilight and friends continue following the trail Trixie left behind on her way north. By a combination of her letters, and the ponies they meet, they follow in her hoofsteps, discovering a number of surprising secrets along the way.

She is the last. All her kin are gone. They'd either been blown apart by the Friendship spell so many ages ago or, in the case of her sister, changed their diet from hate to love. Cryoxia is the last of the windigos, but she is determined to be different, to never go back to those days ever again.

She'll make friendship from hate. She'll adopt an alicorn foal as her sister. She'll take physical form and learn how to move the celestial orbs with her mind. Celestial... has a nice ring to it. And she'll ally with the other nations in the world, establish friendship and preach harmony, no matter how they may diminish her food source. Ten months after Trixie moved to Ponyville, she starts to disappear from time to time, which catches Twilight and Fluttershy's attention and try to figure out what is their friend up to, all while Rarity wonders if Trixie still loves her or not. Rarixie and Twishy!
