plz don't be dead
I haven't read this story yet but, You are approached by a frenzied Vault scientist, who yells, "I'm going to put my quantum harmonizer in your photonic resonation chamber!" What's your response?

Say nothing, but slip away before the scientist can continue his rant.
Or, you know, just dickslap the nutcase and run away while making 'wibwibwibwibwib' noises
DDDAAAMMMNNN!!!!!
Looks like the Rainbooms are on Talon Company's hitlist.
I think by this point Fluttershy is the only one without a body count by this point, granted those were feral ghouls and had lost any and all reason and whoever they were but I have to wonder how after all the adrenaline wears off and they can finally catch a breath will it sink in what they did. Not to mention Twilight doing slightly dark side with the 'force choke' but then again this is Talon Company and I knew those assholes would show up at some point, I wouldn't be surprised if at some point those raiders they keep running into might put a bounty on the girls for Talon to take up.
If what you meant by the limited population meaning you'll be making the places bigger with more people I can see that as Rivet City is an aircraft carrier (sure half of it is missing but that's still huge).
Those girls will get mighty scary when they get some proper gear and start using magic as a wastelander would
See, I understand why Sunset did it, and why Fluttershy and Twilight listened to her, I really do
It's still a stupid reasoning, though, and that detracts a lot from the drama. No matter how serious it sounds, it's still a teenager's folly, for they were NOT in imediate danger. She was stupid, the two of them were stupid, and if she dies will be for a moment of stupidity, not drama
I kind of want the rainbooms to talk about how they helped maddy only for one of the raiders victims to here them.
Fluttershy wants to help everyone but she does not get that now any of maddy's future victims will be her fault.
The problem with the ponies is that they are arrogant due to their powers.
I kind of want the wastelanders to figure out that if they take away the geodes the girls would have no power.
I want one of them to take applejacks geode away and then beat her up.

Yeah. I was kind of expecting Twilight to pull the pins on any and all of the grenades the mercs may have been carrying. Guess she's not quite at that point yet though.
Geez, the last sentence gave me chills... You're doing an awesome job!
These girls need to figure out how scavenging works. They have no weapons or ammo and they keep just walking past really useful supplies. I know they were in a hurry here, so in this case I don't really blame them, but Twilight shouldn't have thrown away those rifles at the end. She needs to make keeping the things she steals a habit.
I'm no doctor, but I don't think a kidney contusion should interfere with the respiratory system. Which means that if Sunset isn't breathing, she's in some SERIOUS trouble. Like, she's actually dead kind of trouble. Yeah, not sure how they're gonna fix that one to be honest. Especially given that they only have what Rivet City has to offer, which is a far cry from prewar medical technology, and this would've been a tall order even for that.
I have to say, this version of the Rainbooms is starting to upset me, especially Sunset. Her personality reminds me how she was at the begin of the second movie, rather meek, dominated by guilt over her past actions, and with little to no confidence.
There's a big difference between being selfless and being reckless. Did she not consider that given her current conditions she would not only be a hindrance to the group but also put them in danger? Better wait a bit longer before getting back home than hurry and have one of your friends killed.
Guilt? Seriously? I get that she was may be afraid of slipping back to the dark side because she was about to kill a man, but the scumbag and his pals were about to shoot them like rabid beasts without remorse.

Leaving the rifles may be excused due to the need to reach Rivet City ASAP and the mental fatigue of the fight against the ghouls, but I agree that they should have realized by this point that if they want to survive they need to put aside some of their morals and do what is necessary, in other words, they shoudl start playing dirty. Looting corpses, don't be afraid of killing the enemy because most of the time they lack of empathy and have no interest in a peaceful solution, and don't be afraid of using their powers without holding back.
9239084
Nope, they'll be Maddie's. Fluttershy might feel guilt if she finds Maddie has harmed others, but Maddie's choices will still be her own.

Understandable concerns. For Sunset, this is the chapter where she's realised just how badly she's fucked up and is staring death in the face, which I figure is enough to shatter whatever confidence she has, though I probably could have gotten that point across a little better, my bad.
As for the rest, one of the next chapters from the Rainbooms point of view is called Lessons Learned. Make of that what you will...
Thanks for the feedback!

Maddy is a 'special case'. Let's just say when it comes to fiction I try to make every character I name myself have a meaningful name in some way, either giving them the same name as their voice actress, as is the case with Knight-Sergeant Metzger and the Enclave Scientists, or by giving them a name that itself has certain meanings (biblical, celtic etc)

I think you've done a good job so far of showing them slowly coming to terms with their new situation and how different it is from the one they left. I especially like the fact that they're not all coming to grips with it at the same speed. My comment was more a critique of the characters than your writing, because while they've certainly started coming to terms with the violence around them, they haven't quite figured out that possession is nine tenths of the law out in the wasteland. If they want stuff, like ammo and weapons, they have to take it from somewhere. They can't just run down to the local walmart for food, meds, and a couple cases of shotgun shells whenever they want.
On a side note, they totally took the hard way to get to Rivet City. You can get there at level two if you just follow the river down to the coast and walk along the beach. You gotta fight a couple super mutants down by Project Purity, but that's really about it. Well, and that one centaur that walks along the river, I guess. but you can skip him if you don't mind going for a swim and picking up a few rads.

Then I hope she'll eventually reach the level of brutal wasteland insanity needed to create a "want it need it" molotov cocktail
9239463
To be fair I didn't really scavenge either my first time in Fallout 3. Not until 4 and New Vegas did I get that some stuff was useful it wasn't so much in 3
9241316
Oh my goodness that ending part was greatand twisted
I would honestly do that too (in a game just to clarify)
I think one the characters I have in mind might be like that though
9241536
I certainly didn't scavenge everything in 3, but I at least took every bit of weapons, armor, and ammo I could get my hands on. Gotta have those spares for parts to keep your good gear in top shape, and most of that stuff sells for good caps.
9241580
Oh yeah that's true
I was a horder
It mustn't feel so good for Pinkie, peppy party girl that she is, to use her abilities for violence.
Uh oh, that's not good...
Shock never is.
As they say, do or die.
Missing a 'k' there.
Is that an intentional mistake, as in for the accent? If that's so, while I can't think of any examples, I'm sure there are better ways to spell "we're".
9243959
Fixed thanks!
9238885
Exactly what I was thinking!
Hey you, why are you talking to yourself?
Update?
9271147
Well... I was going to give it another once-over just to check through the new chapter before I posted it tomorrow, but since you've all been so well behaved...
Oh geez: We've got hints of Pinkamena AND potential Midnight Sparkle resurgence complete with Sith Force Chokes.

YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER... OF THE EGGHEAD
Damn that last part was just plain silly. Leaving fully armed murderous thugs completely fine behind them, their guns in reach. Even panicked thats a level of stupid bordering on the suicidal. Really disapointing to see.
And Twilight has the Nerd Rage perk. Should have seen that one coming a mile away.
Wouldnt it have been smarter for them to turn back and go to Galaxy News for help? I thought they were closer to that than they were to Rivet City, and they had already made the road back a lot safer than it was coming forward.
Also, the word you want is spun, not span.
9896523
Not exactly, as Twilight mentions what Sunset needs is a competent surgeon, something that won't be found at Galaxy News Radio. Their only option at that point is to press forward to Rivet City and hope that it has decent medical facilities.
Also, fixed! Thanks!
Well that was a high stress chapter. And the Rainbooms just blitzed through a first encounter with the Talon Company, that'll have consequences even if they didn't already have a contract out on them.
Meanwhile every time Pinkie is forced to use her powers for violence a little bit of joy in her dies. And Twilight is riding dangerously close to her limit as well.
Interesting to see Twi take over as our PoV character since Sunset is out of it, I'm guessing she'll be down for a while as she heals and I suppose she is the natural choice for her second.
Geez. The strength of Littlepip be with you, Sci-Twi.
10203782
Twi has lil pip and sunset is channeling Blackjack.... strangely enough has not been shot by a friend yet
All hail Darth twilight
10523047
Hope she gets over the guilt and shame once she realizes they are Talon Company. Those are among my favorite enemies to kill
And for those who've been reading for a while... this feels downright tame. Author, you don't pull your punches with Sunset, do you?
That's what they should always do when they come across enemies
