Because of Reeka and her eating rodents and bugs alive. Hell I still can't get through the original G1 My Little Pony movie all that well. I see her eating the bugs and rodents alive and I nearly throw up, and get creeped out by it. G1 did have its truly dark moments, also like Tirek actually wanting to kill the ponies instead of simply draining them of their magic, using the Rainbow of Darkness to turn them into beasts and enslave them and of course we can't forget Grogar and his evil ways.
