Non-canon prequel to The Enchanted Library

As a filly, Rarity's favorite bedtime story was about three princesses trapped throughout Equestria by a wicked spirit of chaos. How she dreamed of finding them all when she was older, especially the princess trapped in a library under a tree. She knew, however, that fairy tales weren't real.

Only when she grew up would she find out how very wrong she was.

Based on an AU a friend came up with in which Rarity stumbles across an enchanted library where Twilight is its spiritual guardian, and both form an unlikely friendship as she helps Twilight be restored to normal.

Rarity helps a beautiful mare pick out the perfect hat in her boutique.

Twilight isn't having a very good day. An experimental spell blew up in her face, an army of changelings is attacking Canterlot, and she just died. Yet somehow, it looks like it's going to keep going downhill from here.

Given the chance to correct what's gone wrong, Twilight swears she's going to fix all this even if it kills her. Which it will. Frequently.

While helping Twilight Sparkle search the Starswirl the Bearded Wing of Canterlot Castle for the time-stopping spell, Pinkie Pie gets sucked into a vortex where she runs into four doppelgangers of herself from other points in time and space. A Pariah lost between the barriers of reality requests the five pastel mares' assistance in stopping the Anti-Marenitor's wave of annihilation. The entire fate of the multiverse hangs in the balance. Pinkie Pie, however, is too busy searching for a birthday gift for Twilight.

And then Discord happens.

I blame this fanfic entirely on Ponky, the talented stalker who gave me the prompt in the first place.

How do you make a story out of a chaotic hodgepodge of ever shifting and random pairings? That's a good question. How do you do that? Anyway, I tried. Heaven help me, I tried.

This fic was inspired by Bronycon and the “Twilight’s Secret Shipfic Folder” card game, which I and other writers there played the hell out of. In fact, it is my attempt at a direct re-creation of a game in narrative form. Bolded words are a direct call-back to the cards being played.
