Men interesting story, I think I liked this one better, here Variant has a lot more freedom and is bond to die. I want to see were this is going.
And Celestia never answer, why he can't sleep in her room? It was her idea, and her responsibility there for. There is no reason why she should drag Luna in his decisions.

I have to say that I like where this is going. Didn't read the other story, but other than that...
It's written pretty good! Simple, but also not too complicated and filled with details [as I do a lot with my work]. There were a few parts, mainly in the beginning, that could have used a lot more [doesn't really know how to explain it and has spent a few minutes thinking about it] reaction from the main character, Variance. Like, miniature monologes, except they are the character's thoughts on the situation at hand.
I don't think I know exactly what I'm saying, but then again, I think way too hard sometimes. Great job though!

The original one isn't bad or anything, it's just that i can't come to like the 'evil Variance' ending

Great chapter, the lighthearted tone here was pleasant and Variance is showing to be an interesting character. I look forward to the eventual meeting of him and his father (and his mother in law).
My only concern here is that you made Twilight accept him a bit too quickly. Even with Celestia vouching for him I think she'd at least be wary. I mean she did attack him on sight, so changelings are probably labeled "enemy" in her mind. Its nice when everyone gets along and all, but a little bad blood can be interesting.
That being said, don't worry about making us wait. We're just glad it's still going at all and most of us understand one can't simply force quality writing. Also, life should take priority over ponies.

When I'm not feeling confused, I quite like this fic. ...which is quite the contrast to the original. I can't remember why, but I gave it one of my rare downvotes. (Usually, if I actively dislike something, I just leave it unvoted as my way of saying "neither up nor down... just middling")
