I liked the chapter, but to be honest, I kinda thought that Midnight would have a complete dark side personality, like she would only play being nice to thole CMC just to be 'friends' with the Mane 5, rather than show sentimentality for the CMC that makes her actually nice at the end.

The reason her interactions with the CMC are genuine (well originally intended) are because Midnight's plan of vengeance is more focused on the Mane 5 as she draws the line at innocent ponies being hurt especially by other family members. A little something there is more to her than she lets on which will be explained in later chapters.

Yeah, I understand, this chapter was a little difficult to include Midnight's involvement without a scheme against the Mane 5 who outside of Applejack don't have much of a role in this chapter and I just wanted to show that she has a softer side deep down to show that there is something more about her under her ambitious and manipulative side.

I agree. As much as I like seeing those who betray one another get their comeuppance, this is becoming to much for Twilight to be doing this to them. I do pray and hope that the other bearers, Celestia, Luna, Cadance and Shining do hurry and find the keys before Midnight does and stop Twilight from making the biggest mistake of her life.

Understandable, as my intention at this point of the story is playing both sides of the fence by having a villain you want to root for while at the same time wanting the heroes to prevail in the end. And while I respect your opinion I'm not sure petty is the word I'd describe her actions.

Just read it. Twilight duplicated herself and teleported out of the explosion, and became Midnight. The duplicate died in Twilight's place. I didn't expect Twilight to become the new Nightmare Moon, though.

It'd be interesting to see that there's some sort of inner conflict going on in Midnight where there's a part of her that wants to forgive her friends, Shining Armor and Celestia but the rest of her doesn't want to forgive them as the former is drowned out by all of her hate and anger towards them.

UPDATE: I have also added in a flashback scene of Midnight and Discord's deal and meeting to show Midnight making the offer herself to get Discord on her side and to explain how he knows of who Midnight really is as she casted a memory spell on him to erase some of his memories before meeting Discord just after he was freed from being stone. Mainly, because Midnight knows that Discord would be able to figure who she really is deep down just from one good look at her and at that moment she didn't want anypony to know the truth about her at the time.

On a more serious note it'd be sweet if when the key is discovered it automatically calls the other keys and the chest while opening it as well.

if that doesn't work then maybe denying Midnight as her sister in law and only acknowledging Twilight Sparkle as such and go even as far separate the two of them.
