nicely done! Loved how easy-going Dinky takes the recovering.
And i agree, you can#T always win without losses. Me, in RTS games, i always try to do with few losses as possible, caring for my soldiesr
Harsh times ahead. Bearly arrived in Equestria and they already go trough a lot...
Wonder if they make it and who will not make it. Even maimed is better than killed...
Poor Cerbs trying to keep his eyes on the next conflict, even if he's literally unable to fight in it right now.
And shiiiiit, so many casualties...then again, they did fight Harmony herself, so that isn't so suprising.

Kids will be kids, and they likely don't fully understand the losses that were taken at that point. There's going to be a lot of care needed for these wounded.

It's gonna be a rough go for all of them. Ocellus is going to have a major impact on everyone, and the emotional tolls from surviving the fight are going to be hard to deal with.

yes, innocence can be both blessing and curse.
Funny, that you can't archive victory without losses, that is ironically a problem for a story i have planed.
You mind if i tell you?

Cerb never wanted to give up the fight, not even when he was back on Earth. So, even here, he doesn't want to let the threats go uncontested. The fact that so many got hurt is likely only going to increase Cerb's desire to keep them safe when the next threat comes around.

if you care to share, I'm open.
I thought I would've had a lot to say but I don't. This chapter was somber as hell. Topics involving heartbreaking news, PTSD, & just all out negativity was not on my list of things to read today.
Jesus....Ocellus being a replacement Lucy for Benny is just fucking....why did you do that to me?! You want me to tear up or something?! Just the thought of her even dying in his arms is just painful This is like some Last Of Us shit (if you know, ya know).
Fucking hell of a chapter & I can't wait for the next part. I can't even give this a ranking. This shit HURT!

It wasn't my intent to make this chapter such a downer, but this is a more realistic situation where the victory isn't all sunshine and rainbows.
While not the same as multiple stab wounds like Lucy, Ocellus was similarly wounded and essentially abandoned after being trafficked/coerced to a foreign land.
Actually, there was a scene I ended up cutting where Benny nearly started a fight over Ocellus.
Very soon, and always, expect the unexpected.

Oh, you definitely should've had this in the story. Benny's a damn badass here. However, I can respect it's exclusion as you likely have your reasons for not including this scene.
Ocellus being so close to Benny is really heartwarming & I'd like to think that She, Benny, Octavia, & Vinyl would make such a nice family.
I mentioned Last of Us because it's a story filled with loss & it's lead character's relationship are very similar to what I'm seeing here. Though not as tragic as Lucy's, Ocellus's situation is just as bad & with Benny being a father, he does not allow & WILL NOT allow a child to die as he knows the pain of a father's loss & so he sees his little Lucy in Ocellus as in his own words "Just a kid".
Damn, I really thought this through even though it shouldn't be this deep. I'm just a thinker I suppose. 😅

Mostly, I wanted to keep the buildup of Benny taking such a shining to Ocellus a later revelation. That kind of confrontation gave away a bit too much, but it may end up turning up somewhere else in future writings.
Benny has seriously invested himself into taking care of Ocellus. Both Octavia and Vinyl are just as invested in Benny and seem to be supporting him with taking care of Ocellus. That could very well lay down the foundation for a family.
Never played any of the Last Of Us series. though I've seen plenty of commentary on them... though I still don't know much about it. Regardless, Benny very much didn't want to see anything bad happen to any of the kids. Kelly had a mean streak because of the kids being put in danger.
Don't worry. There will be more to finish this up.
Aw come on........ not the lovebug too.......
That makes little sense, she acknowledged that some exceptions validate killing, like the Owlbear being on a killing range.
Is it like a inactive spell? Or maybe like a Army that got devastatingly defeated and bites is time? I doubt it is harmless, at least probably toxic on contact.
Sometimes one can do everything right and still fail.

Saying you're okay with something and actually living it are two different things. Add in all the other trauma Fluttershy experienced that night, it's very reasonable to assume that PTSD could be her issue.
Even those believed to be hardened and experienced combat veterans, they can still suffer PTSD from simply witnessing others being killed, or even their remains. There is a lot that goes into these experiences that get glossed over and highlighted by media. It can take a lot less than one would expect, so given Benny's experiences and prior theory, it's likely he understands that she needs help.
For reasons they don't fully understand, the portions of The Darkness that crossed over and was severed from the source have stopped moving on their own and are now considered "inactive." That's not to say that what remains is not dangerous, but it's no longer out on the offensive. There are clear statements that people understand the threat it still presents.
Not everyone gets that perfect ending. It's not how life works, and that quote you pulled up captured such a lesson rather well.
