Amateur fanfic writer and reader. Sometimes I get dreams, dreams of ponies, and wish that someone would write a story based off them. So why not me?

E
Source

An unnatural winter has fallen over Equestria, freezing the hearts of her ponies along with her roads. Angry shouts and screams fill the streets of the cities along, blending with the howls of the wind as snow piles over heads. Once again, Equestria must rely on Princess Twilight Sparkle and the former bearers of the Elements of Harmony as these six mares journey into the heart of the storm to discover the source and put an end to the eternal winter.

This is not their story.

This is a story about the ones waiting for their safe return.

Based in the kilala97 universe

I love it. It gives such an in depth and interesting view to the male characters in a female dominated world. That, and you actually gave some characterization to Flash, of all ponies.

Thumbs up, soldier.

That was so sweet. I loved it. Great job. Needs Flash tag though. Great job.

I'm a little worried about all the Flash Sentry haters out there.

5281943 Some people just don't like flash twi shipping. I think some of that may be from the fact that Human Flash was the first guy to express interest in Twilight and Vice versa. What can I say. Some people just had bad reactions. I see some of their points, I just don't go about slandering it. For example Flash has his own hate group on this site. I couldn't believe it when I saw it.

Well done, Mess. I'm not a follower of the artist's fanon and OC.'s, but you made them believable and warm enough that I didn't need to know her body of work to understand them and care about them here in the story. Daddy Spike was amazing, and his interaction with Flash actually made the latter into a sympathetic character, and I was moved by his worry over Twilight. The foals were adorable, the adults relatable, their worries as dark and palpable as the winter outside. In all, an excellent work all around. You certainly have become better and better with each new story.

5282045 Once again, I see a story recommended by you, and I am not disappointed. :derpytongue2:

You know, I'm not usually a big fan of Sparity.... but Kilala's work really sells it to me.

This was a fantastic little tale, friend. Spike really felt like the long-suffering character he should be, having grown up with a neurotic princess for a sister/mother/friend/whatever, then having married a mare more prone to histrionics than a bipolar honey badger, both of whom save the world on a regular basis. Flash was the highlight of the characters, however. You made him a normal solider. Not some knight in shining armor or Gary Stu-esque manly man, but a weary soldier who worries for his wife.

Oh, and the kids gave me a good helping of beetus. :ajsmug:

So... yeah, great story, and I dearly hope you write more in this little AU.

Any story that makes Flash into a believable and relate-able character is a good one! I don't hate him by any means, I just wish he had more of a personality in canon.

5281943 And what about the ones who are actively looking for good Flash Sentry stories? He is an important character in the story so omitting seems like an oversight. I wouldn't worry too much about the "haters". Many might be neutral and might appreciate a good SoL story that is related to how the families of people in high-risk occupations (e.g. firefighters, police, military) feel. There might be ones that will hate regardless of what you might say so there's no point in spending energy with them. Point is, haters gonna hate but there might be some who can overlook that.

Also,

"Don't worry, Twilight, I can totally take care of Sunburst while you're out," Spike grumbled

I believe you meant Starburst.

He glanced over to the princess stand nearby, who shook her head and grinned knowingly.

I think that should be standing.

Holy crap. This is the exact kind of story I hoped for when I started this group. No huge adventure, no monsters to fight, just real life. And it was done in such a fantastic way, it truly is an honor the the kilalaverse, and thank you for writing it.

...I cannot type words that will do this justice.

Thanks for writing! :moustache:

....favorited.

Your ability to write fantastic Spike stories is almost unbelievable. In comparison to your other story with Spike staying home, the message was clear and unambiguous. It really brings a new light to the home front, showcasing it in a way only you seem to do a very good job with . . . and maybe a bit of help of the back stories of Spike and the characters of Kilala. But only a little. Fantastic story as always. Keep up the good work!

"She goes where no one has gone
But always, a hero comes home..."

Sorry, that is what this fic makes me think of. This song right here.

I love this thing, mainly because it oes talk about something important when it comes to being a hero. The family that worries about you, the ones you leave behind. It talks about how Spike's usefulness doesn't just respond to fighting, but holding don the fort and how they have to be careful. But I alos love the message of trust that appeares here.

I believe this is what the families of police and firefighters must go through on a daily basis.:pinkiesad2:

Like, fav and added to my recommendation group.

I'm really coming to enjoy fics where Spike is a father.

Especially when he isn't shoved into the "bumbling/idiot dad" cliche.

See above, my feelings haven't changed in three weeks

Enjoy.

Great story! And it explores the topic that I don't think has been done yet. I'm looking forward to reading more from you.
