I've always been a lover and writer of fanfiction, but it wasn't until I got into MLP that I really found something I loved writing about. Hope you all enjoy.

Sequels1

E

This story is a sequel to Flash Sentry Chronicles: The Legend of Everfree

Everything appears peaceful in Equestria and our heroes are getting ready to celebrate Spike's birthday. But everything changes when a new enemy appears, one that they thought was a friend. With war threatening to break out, it's up to our heroes to find a way to stop the violence and defeat this foe. But to do so, they must look to Spike's past. A past even he knows very little about.

Amazing! Cant wait to see where this goes! 🙂

Man! I knew this fic would be Spike-centered but I am so happy that you are exploring Spike's origin! Something Hasbro didn't do on the show! (I was disappointed with them after Father Knows Beast, a wasteful plot)

But damn! His birthday are going to one crazy birthday!

I hope they manages to save Flicker and the rest of dragons from the mysterious villain that is controlled them before it's too late!

Here's highlights:

"Look!" Heather pointed downward, both now seeing a pair of dragons standing at the bottom of a crater. One matched the description they had been given of Dragon Lord Ember, but the other was a complete unknown. Down in the crater, Ember groaned as she fell to her knees, only able to stay up by placing her weight on the bloodstone sceptre. She then looked up at the dragon that caused her injuries, a dragon that she thought she knew and could trust. Flicker.

Oh no! Flicker is brainwashed! :pinkiegasp:

"Arise, my faithful servants." With that, the dragons all began to move. They stood up and remained still as the ponies now saw all the dragons' eyes were now glowing bright red.

Spike chuckled at this, "Well...I was flying through the sky and surrounded by a bunch of other dragons. But these weren't like the ones we've seen before. One was more like a winged snake, and another didn't have any wings at all. And we were all staring down a giant black dragon and it looked like we were about to fight. And when I talked, it wasn't my voice that spoke. It was just weird."

Why do I had a feeling this is foreshadowing?

The lead dragon then pointed at the ponies, with a single word escaping his lips. "Attack." With that, the flying reptiles charged, Flash, Rainbow and Skybreaker bracing themselves. And as the dragons began to clash with the trio, the rest swooped down, ready to attack the town. It was an invasion.

This is going to be epic!!! A Spike-centric story exploring his origin. I know that you will make this great. Thank you:pinkiehappy:

So far so good I wonder how many chapters this one has.

10790363
I'm glad you like it so far. In the words of Pinkie Pie, I'm nervouscited.

Oh man this is going to be epic! I have been looking forward to this story ever since the title for it was first revealed, which feels like it may have been one or two years ago.

This is an interesting start. So "Celestial Advice" has already happened off-screen, so we won't see it adapted in the Season 7 story. Also, Ember has already fallen against whatever this new threat is. I was hoping she would have a major supporting role in the story, but this does help show how bad the situation is already. Also, the rune gate between Ponyville and Canterlot being a success was great. I thought it was an interesting concept when it was first introduced, and now it could potentially appear again in the future for a number of scenarios.

I am certainly looking forward to Spike's origins being explored here and seeing him get more development thanks to this.

This is part of the reason that motivated me to propose the idea to Banshee. Spike still had yet to have his big moment at the time. I look forward to reactions going forward.

Holeee......my excitement is though the roof with this tale featuring my fave purple drake! :pinkiehappy:

Figured that Flicker got brainwashed when we saw him last but I didn't expect it would escalate so quickly, and on Spike's B-Day no less! Can't wait to see where you & Joeyjambo122 take this tale, especially since the show didn't gave us some actual insight about Spike's egg origin. Hopefully we get to see my 2nd fave orange dragon early as well on this tale! :raritywink:

While I raise the alarm of the incoming dragon invasion, have some Highlights to keep busy! :

And then he spoke, his voice filled with anger and resentment. "This ends...now!" As soon as he said that, he charged, the dragons beside him charging as well. They flew, or ran, as fast as they could toward the black dragon. "Your reign of terror ends here and now!" The others dragons roared in agreement, only for the black dragon to take a deep breath.

Then, it unleashed a large cloud of the black mist that before anyone could react, consumed the six.

Spike gasped as he woke up, shooting straight upright in his bed. He let out a series of gasps, sweat pouring down his face as he glanced around, now seeing he was in his room. The drake let out a sigh, laying back and plopping his head on the pillow. And as he did this, he thought back to what he had just been dreaming about.

It was so vivid, almost like it wasn't a dream at all. "What was that?" he whispered

Welp you got me hooked with this! :rainbowdetermined2:

"Ace!" He heard Mira cry out as she chased the other jakhowl, "Give it back!" Spike saw Ace was holding a book that he recognized as the diary Soul had given Mira.

"No way," he replied before looking into the book. "I wanna see what you wrote about me!"

"It's private!" Mira exclaimed before bringing her paws together. She grunted as a super tiny Aura Blast appeared between them. "Give it back!" She fired the bean sized orb at Ace, who barely managed to avoid it as it hit the wall. Despite being small, it exploded with enough force to knock him off his feet while leaving the wall untouched.

lol oh yeah, good old sibling rivalry! :rainbowlaugh:

"Sorry!" Heart called back before running into the bakery. "Pinkie, I have a party emergency!" In the blink of an eye, Pinkie suddenly appeared in front of him.

"What's the problem?"

"I haven't gotten Spike a present and all the good ideas are gone. Any suggestions? Because-" Pinkie held up a hoof to make him stop, then reached over and pressed it against the wall. Heart and Soul watched as the piece of wall was pushed inward like a button, causing the floor in front of them to open up before a large stack of paper shot up.

"Here you go," she pushed the papers over, "This is a list of everything Spike likes, wants or needs. The crossed out ones are what he has or somepony else got for him."

Yep Heart, always go to Pinkie at times like these! :pinkiehappy:

"Let me show you," he held the sceptre up before unleashing a red shockwave that shot out in all directions. As soon as it hit Ember, she clutched her head in pain, falling to her knees while the other dragons suddenly awakened and roared while doing the same.

The two pointed watching gasped as they saw the dragons appeared to be tortured by the energy wave. Second by second, their screams intensified until they suddenly went silent. The dragons went limp next, their heads dropping, remaining still as Flicker chuckled at the sight.

"Arise, my faithful servants." With that, the dragons all began to move. They stood up and remained still as the ponies now saw all the dragons' eyes were now glowing bright red.

Two words..............HOLY CRAP!!!!:twilightoops:

"Hey!" Skybreaker yelled as they got close enough, "What's the big idea?! What are you doing here and what's with the big hole in the sky?!" The dragon didn't reply, instead raising his staff as it began to glow. Seconds later, more dragons appeared from the portal. They were all on the smaller side for dragons, Flash spotting several teenage dragons from his time in the Dragon Lands.

Pretty good cliffhanger. next Tuesday can't get here quick enough! :moustache:

Awesome start Banshee & Joeyjambo122, looking forward to see Spike's role in this tale & maybe him maturing a bit, till the next one!

10790579
It's also because I love the character, if my profile picture didn't make that clear. :twilightblush:

Good grief! Who've thought that the beginning of this story would end on an epic cliffhanger.

Also I have a response for Joeyjambo122: it wasn't from the Blazing Dragons cartoon I recognized Flicker's name from but rather it's PS1 video game adaptation, which had a few characters voiced by its creator, the late Terry Jones. I even have some gameplay footage from YouTube to show you if you'd like.

10790610
I know that, it's what made me curious about the cartoon.

So, we're opening with demon possession and war, huh? Okay.

10790590
Glad to see some fellow Spike lovers here! :moustache::heart:

10790587
10790590
Well I am certainly lookin forward to seeing what happens to Spike here.

Although I would argue he has already had a few other standout moments in the series, like helping Twilight and Starlight fight the Evil Flash in Season 5 or him finally coming to terms that his crush on Rarity was never going to go anywhere, I do acknowledge that he hasn't quite had any big focus chapters like several others yet.

I can tell you love Spike, and that's good because the little guy deserves some respect. I know you are nervous about this, but I think given your love of the character and Banshee's record of delivering excellent stories, this seems like it is easily another winner.

10790616
In a sense I'm still saddened that it's creator, Terry Jones died last year. And it was rather tragic too since he was in severely declining health before then.

This chapter was awesome 😎! I really loved the way the characters fought and sounded. The Mane Six, the Defenders, and Starlight were incredible fighting off the dragons and protecting the citizens. Spike having a more prominent role in this story has me pumped even more now. I wonder how he is going to save the day in the end. Seeing Twilight so angry once Malefear capture Spike was chilling. I always wondered what the Princess of Friendship would behave if someone ticked her off too far. And Flash failing to save his friends in the end was something I don't think I have seen before. Shows that the Sacred Light is not always enough. I can't wait to see what comes next.

Man! Didn't see that twist coming... :pinkiegasp:

So going by Malafear's words, Spike might be a reincarnation of a member of long lost Dragon race and Malafear has a grudge against Spike or Silverbolt for siding with ponies.

I can't wait for more on his origin!

Here's highlights

"Alright!" Heart leapt up, igniting his body. One of the dragons charged, Heart noticing this one was smaller than the others. She was not small as Spike, but somewhere in-between, the dragon being female and was orange with a yellow front and mouth with a purple fin running down its head and on the tip of its tail. The dragon unleashed a burst of fire, only for Heart to fly right through the flames, "Nice try!" He laughed before throwing a punch, hitting the dragon in the face. And as he pushed her back, he saw the dragon's expression not change, not showing pain or anything. Instead, it just stared at him with glowing bright red eyes, "Huh?!"

Smolder's cameo appearance

"Let...me...GO!" With that, the chains shattered, the silver energy exploding out as it burned away the darkness. Malafear roared as this happened, the dark figure vanishing from the mind space.

I had a feeling that Spike is not an ordinary dragon everyponies think of.

Flicker groaned as he held his head, only to glare at the small purple dragon. "I knew it," he hissed, "You may have changed your appearance, but that power is something I'll never forget!" He pointed his staff at Spike, "You won't stop me this time...Silverbolt."

Dropping big glass on the floor

Did not see that coming. :pinkiegasp:

"Teaming up with ponies again?!" Flicker roared, "You truly are a disgrace to the Mystic Dragon race." He turned to the ones under his control, "GET THEM!" The dragons charged again, Flash, Twilight, Applejack, Script, Heart and Ember running in front of the drake.

I also did not see that coming! :pinkiegasp:

What is this? Shyamalan Twist cause we are getting a lot of plot twist in this chapter and we are not even at the end!

"What's...HAPPENING?!" Were Spike's last words before his entire body was sucked inside, Flicker slamming it chuckle before dissolving the barrier.

Yikes! :twilightoops:

"No!" Flash screamed, the portal gone just moments before he reached it. Seeing it was gone, he came to a stop, his body shaking as he whispered, "Spike...Iron...Lightning." He then let out a ear-piercing roar towards the heavens, "RAAAAAUUUGGGGHHHHH!"

Poor Flash.

Man, Twilight is devastated about what happened to Spike, I hope she and others are going to rescue them from Malafear before it's too late.

Awesome chapter!

Sorry, but this fight didn't feel authentic, the ponies were too good, it should have been much more one sided.
Other than that, the invasion kicking off in the first chapter comes off as blowing the load too soon.

Not saying these aren't bad ideas but it doesn't feel earned.

I honestly don't know how to feel about Spike have a previous life and that was named Silverbolt, on the one hand it's nice to have more references to other Hasbro lines, and yet on the other I am not sure Silverbolt in any of the Transformer Continuity families is the one to use as the base for a past life of Spike.

Wow, this was an awesome chapter!

The fight scenes were great as usual, with the Mane 6, Defenders, and Starlight all getting in on the action. I really enjoyed Smolder's small cameo appearance. The wood dragon was especially interesting for me. I openly admit to being a big fan of dragons, and while the fire-breathing version is always a classic I am interested in seeing alternate versions, like ones that breath water or ice instead of fire, or this one that can apparently control vines and nature.

Spike managed to help out once again, helping free Ember so now she can help the others. That was a very sweet moment how he spoke to Ember through the barrier and managed to get through to her, that pleased my inner Spike x Ember shipper.

But the biggest moment was when "Flicker" tried to take control of Spike. So the Big Bad of this story is named Malafear. That certainly paints a good image of him considering he has the word "fear" in his name. But then we learn a bit more about Spike himself too. So, he's a reincarnation of another dragon named "Silverbolt". I know that is usually a name used by an Autobot in Transformers, but I am most familiar with the Maximal version from Beast Wars. If this Silverbolt is anything like that Silverbolt, I know I am going to love him.

Big cliffhanger ending, with Spike, Iron, and Lightning all captured by Malafear. I am anxious to find out how Flash and the others are going to try to save them, and I really want to learn more about Silverbolt and Malafear, and these Mystic Dragons in general.

Such an action packed chapter and I'm honestly surprised that this version of Spike has an ancestor of a famous dragon. But is the latter character named after a Maximal from Beast Wars?

Also I've observed that Malafear's name sounds similar to that of Malefor, the true villain of the Legend of Spyro trilogy.

Also I've observed that Malafear' name sounds similar to that of Malefor, the true villain of the Legend of Spyro trilogy.

Funny, I thought the exact same thing. Though if it turned out Spike was the reincarnation of Spyro instead of Silverbolt, then I guess it would be a bit on the nose with showing how Purple Dragons always turn out to be heroic.

Wow the action went though the roof & this is only the 2nd chapter, color me impressed! :pinkiegasp:

Glad that we finally have a name to go along the creep controlling Flicker & the rest of the dragons, this Malefear's sure one nasty piece of crap! Taking not only more powerful ponies but also taking Spike (after having his mind-control crap backslapping him). Was wondering if you were gonna include Twilight's reaction at seeing Spike taken & you didn't dissapoint, after all she's his mom/big sister figure! :twilightangry2:

Also seems we got some info at who Spike might've been at a different life, interesting! :rainbowdetermined2:

As we pick up the pieces, let's go though some Highlights :

One of the dragons charged, Heart noticing this one was smaller than the others. She was not small as Spike, but somewhere in-between, the dragon being female and was orange with a yellow front and mouth with a purple fin running down its head and on the tip of its tail. The dragon unleashed a burst of fire, only for Heart to fly right through the flames, "Nice try!" He laughed before throwing a punch, hitting the dragon in the face. And as he pushed her back, he saw the dragon's expression not change, not showing pain or anything. Instead, it just stared at him with glowing bright red eyes

Oh Smoldy, it pains me seeing you like this! :fluttercry:

It was a dragon, the biggest dragon anypony had ever seen. Its head was about the same size as Torch's, but it had a long serpentine body that appeared to be covered in green 'fur', everypony now realizing it was actually grass and had several differently colored flowers growing on it. Its hair on the back of its head that was made of leaved twigs and long vines, and it had two a pair of T-Rex-like arms. Its claws were made out of wood, and its wings looked like a pair of giant leaves that somehow kept it aloft.

The beast let out a mighty roar, shaking the ground around it, forcing the ponies to cover their ears. But one member of Ponyville's citizenship fought through the sound to look at the dragon above. Spike. The young drake stared at the beast, a memory of his dream flashing through him as he gasped, "That's....one of the dragons from my dream."

Oh yeah, crap got real! :twilightoops:

"Come on Ember!" Spike yelled, "Whatever this is, you can fight it! You're the Dragon Lord!" The blue dragon continued to claw at the force-field, "I know you! You're stronger than this!" He moved up to him, just inches as she kept slashing the barrier, "You don't wanna hurt us. You don't wanna hurt me." Ember's eyes glanced down at him, her claws slowing down as he said, "We're friends." Ember's claws came to a stop, though they were still touching the barrier. And as he saw this, Spike's eyes narrowed at the sight.

"SPIKE!" Everyone cried as they saw the dragon reached a hand through the barrier and grab Ember's, the group fearing Spike would be pulled outside the barrier and be ripped apart. But Ember didn't do that. She stared down at him, only to slowly grab his.

But as she did this, she suddenly let go, instead putting her claws to her head. She let out a scream of pain as she fell to her knees, "Ember!" Spike watched her scream, shaking her head back and forth, "Ember! You have to fight it!" She let out another screech, only to come to a stop. Spike went wide-eyed, only to slowly ask, "Ember?" The dragon opened her eyes, blinking as they the red glow disappeared from them.

"Spike?"

Heck yeah, you go Spike!!! :moustache:

The dragon's head raised an eyebrow at this, only to shake his head, "Don't bother. All dragons will submit to my-" His words came to a stop as a crack appeared in the chains, "What?!" A snort of fire blew from this nostrils at the sight, summoning more chains that wrapped around the little dragon. But before they could hit Spike, a sudden silver light appeared, shielding the drake as the chains bounced off the barrier.

"What?!" He roared as he fired more chains, only for them all to reflect off the shield. "Impossible!"

The chains began to turn to smoke, the light now shining even brighter before changing shape. It slowly morphed into a type of humanoid dragon, Spike not noticing due to this eyes being closed. But despite this, Malafear hissed at the being, glaring at the energy field as a pair of green eyes appeared on the head of the energy construct.

"You..." Malafear growled, only for Spike to give one final pull as the sounds of his friends echoed through the void.

"Let...me...GO!" With that, the chains shattered, the silver energy exploding out as it burned away the darkness. Malafear roared as this happened, the dark figure vanishing from the mind space.

Sorry creep, this dragon won't be controlled, especially by the likes of you! :rainbowdetermined2:

"SPIKE!" His friends all yelled, Twilight continuing to blast the shield, others trying to join her until the other dragons landed in front of them. All they could do was watch as the light was sucked into the book, the pages acting like a portal as Spike's feet touched it and phased into the paper.

"What's...HAPPENING?!" Were Spike's last words before his entire body was sucked inside, Flicker slamming it chuckle before dissolving the barrier.

"Vengence is so sweet."

But as he said that, a purple light made him turn to see Twilight glaring at him, her horn exploding with purple lightning. "Bring. Him. Back!" she hissed.

Welp you done it now, Mama Twilight's pissed!!! :twilightangry2:

"No!" Flash screamed, the portal gone just moments before he reached it. Seeing it was gone, he came to a stop, his body shaking as he whispered, "Spike...Iron...Lightning." He then let out a ear-piercing roar towards the heavens, "RAAAAAUUUGGGGHHHHH!"

Damn, seeing Flash lose a fight so hard was heartbreaking! :fluttershysad:

Now I can't wait till the next chapter, awesome work you 2!:moustache:

PS : Don't let that story-critic primadonna discourage you from writing stories JoeyJambo, you rock! :moustache:

None I know of. Just something I noticed myself.

Okay, my interest has been piqued. Let's see where this story takes us.

10801012
The name does come from the transformers character, but that's all they share.

Really interesting take on how Celestia found Spike's egg... I really didn't see that coming! Full of surprises!

So Spike is Silverbolt that got aged down to an eggs? How did that happened?! And he was a friend with Starswirl, Twilight's idol?! WHAT?!?!

Starswirl is more friendly compare to Shadow Play where he was being jackass toward anyponies, especially Twilight who look up to him (beside Celestia) and he was being grumpy old stallion about Pony of Shadows being evil despite he was the reason for it! Sorry for my little rant about him.

Here's highlights

"How did Spike's egg become part of Twilight's test?" Flash continued, Celestia and Luna sharing a glance.

Yeah! I want to know how did you got that egg!

Celestia nodded before turning to the others. "Spike's egg was given to Luna and I to protect by our mentor, Starswirl the Bearded." This statement made everypony go wide-eyed, only for Celestia to continue, "It is...an unusual tale to say the least, which begins back when Luna and I were but little fillies."

Wow... didn't expect Starswirl, Twilight's idol being the one who found Spike's egg.

Turning to it, he saw it was a pony walking up, a gray unicorn with a white and blue mane that had large muttonchops on the side of his head. He was also wearing a blue cloak with stars and moons on it. "Hey!" Spike called out to him, walking up to the pony, "Hey there, I'm Spike. Can you-" He didn't get to finish as the pony walked into, and then through, the dragon, making the drake let out a yelp, "Eep!"

Starswirl? I thought...

But as he did this, a roar filled the air. Spike and the pony looked up and saw a dragon flying down toward the pony, this dragon only being about half the size as Torch or the dragon that had once napped near Ponyville. His scales were a combination of sliver and green, with its lower mouth, neck, chest, waist, tail bottom and the inside of his wings being green while the rest was silver. Along his head, neck and back were a series of green spikes that were lightning bolt shaped, and his eyes were also green.

Is that... Silverbolt?

Spike's eyes went wide at this, gasping as he now saw the similarities to Twilight's idol. But before he could do anything, the dragon replied to the unicorn, "Alright, Starswirl. My name is Silverbolt." Again, Spike's eyes went wide at hearing that name. "And I am a Mystic Lightning Dragon."

SPIKE IS MYSTIC LIGHTNING DRAGON?!?!?!?!?! :pinkiegasp: WHAT THE HELL?!?!?! WHEN DID SPIKE EVER SHOOT LIGHTNING?!?!?! I AM GOING CRAZY FROM THIS!!!!!!!

Wait for a minute... how come Spike never shoot lightning before?

"I guess you could say we're the unicorn versions of dragons. I'm not surprised you haven't heard of us. Mystic Dragons are very rare. In fact, I've never met another Mystic Dragon in my entire life."

Well, that explains why no one remembers Mystic Dragons since they are rare creatures and hard to find.

Starswirl tilted his head at this, "I get that, but what about Mystic Dragons? Do they have any special requirements?" Silverbolt frowned at this, opening his mouth to reply, only for something to catch his attention. Starswirl followed his gaze and saw a purple Flame Dragon with red spines fly down and land. The dragon glanced at him, smiling with a wave before walking off.

Silverbolt waved back, a goofy smile on his face, "Oh?" he turned to Starswirl and saw him smirk. "And you were having a go at me." Silverbolt raised an eyebrow before Starswirl gestured to the dragoness.

"Wha...Fira? We're just friends!"

I do smell ship tease between Silverbolt and Fira.... wonder what happened to her?

Unless... something is off about this. Why Spike have more silver in his past life than his current life? Fira got more purple than Silverbolt and she can fire breath than him.

She glanced back at them, her bright red eyes fluttering at the sight of him. "Hello Bolty." Starswirl smirked at him, "Who's this? I didn't know you knew any ponies." Spike watched the three talk, the sight making him both wonder why he was being shown these images, but also seeing himself, remembering all his pony friends.

Bolty? Cute nickname.

"We just got a message from Cadance and Shining Armor!" Celestia held up a scroll as Luna, Grand and Skybreaker ran out of the castle, the rest of their friends coming over to the castle after hearing Celestia's voice. "Dragons are attacking the Crystal Empire!"

Great chapter!

Honestly, I liked the mystery of Spike's egg better, because sometimes it's better to not know the answer (see Doctor Who Season 12 episode 10/Season finale 'The Timeless Children and the responses to it as well as the Star Wars Episode IIX The Last Jedi and Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker and the reactions to them). Also this whole story really cheapens Spike as a character, instead of being an alien ophan that was nurtured by, in that universe, objectively good beings, like Clark Kent(Superman/ Kal-El) and Son Goku (Karkarot), which shows how much the ponies as a society and a culture have to offer to the dragons and points out the importance of nurture, now he's the reincarnation of a long lost maximum goody-good-hero-savior-person without his own true identity.

I get that most of the readers like this story, but what purpose does it serve? To show Spike off as a hero? That's been done several times, for example The Crystal Empire, namely because people mistaken King Sombra to be the Darth Vader to Twilight's Luke Skywalker when he's the Sauron to Spike's Samwise Gamgee. Or is this to make him 'Dragon Lord' Spike? Well that utterly throws his giving of the Bloodstone Specter to Ember into the trash. It is it to show that he as an individual is better than most dragons? Dragon Quest and Gauntlet of Fire already cemented that fact.

How does this challenge Spike as a character? As much as people (myself included) don't like Father Knows Beast because of the character Sludge, that actually forced Spike to examine himself as a dragon and a person, forced him to make a decision that reflects his maturity and growth as a person. Sure it would have been nice to learn Spike's actual origins, but that misses the point of the episode, which is, and I am going to quote Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, "He have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy."

What is the point of this story in the series? What does this entry have to offer that justifies why it was written and for it to be placed here in the timeling? I can grant Legend of Everfree's excuse of 'the human world Flash and Sci-Twi electing to try out a relationship' (the whole mahou shojou/super sentai thing is still stupid) but what does this have to offer? How will this contribute to the rest of the series? Why should any reader care? We all know that the end of this Ember is going to become Dragon Lord again, Flicker is somehow going to be freed of Malafear's procession of him, via his or Malafear's death after the later reforms his body or an exorcism, peace between the ponies and dragons will be restored, and we're going to go into Season 7 with most of this having little effect on the season. Heck we haven't even been given a pre-season eight Smolder cameo.

This was a cool chapter

Well, that is certainly interesting. We got a bit of background on Spike's egg and how Celestia obtained it. Even if we have a theory on how Spike survived in it for so long though, we don't know for sure how he was turned into an egg. Hopefully we will get an answer to that eventually.

I was surprised to see that Silverbolt knew Starswirl the Bearded. For a pony that "didn't understand friendship" he sure seemed to make a lot of powerful friends in his day. Some of Silverbolt's explanations were interesting too, like different types of dragons needing different elements to hatch. Since he, and by extension Spike, is a Mystic Lightning Dragon, then that explains why Spike finally hatched when Twilight zapped his egg. The magic was like a lightning bolt. Though I am curious why Spike hasn't used Lightning yet then, only fire.

It was also funny to see that Silverbolt seemed to have a thing for that dragoness Fira. I'm curious to see what happened to her. I still ship Spike and Ember the most, but if Spike were to somehow meet Fira in the present I can only imagine how awkward things might be between them, or if the ship tease from Spike's former life as Silverbolt carries over. It would be hilarious.

Now the fight is being taken to the Crystal Empire. I hope Cadance, Shining Armor, Flurry Heart, Ruby, and Sunburst will stay safe.

The void disappeared again, now morphing into a terrain filled with dragons. While most of the dragons appeared to look like the ones Spike was used to, others looked very different. Some looked like the ones he had seen in his dream, though not exactly the ones he had seen in his dream, along with others that he had never seen before. There were dragons that appeared to be made entirely out of rocks, ones in a nearby body of water that looked more like giant fish than dragons, ones covered in feathers rather than scales, and so many more.

Now that was a cool moment. Seeing so many different dragons. I really hope more of these will appear in the present after this story.

Sweet backstory on where Spike's egg came from, never expected Starswirl's involvement in it. Plus it seems that the whole Pony of Shadows happened just as he gave the egg to the royal sisters for safekeeping. Now I can't wait what Spike will do once all of the pieces come together at the end of this tale! That cliffhanger at the end there was the perfect hookup, well done! :rainbowdetermined2:

As for today's Highlights :

"He took him!" Twilight almost cried, "He used some kind of spell that sucked Spike into the book he was holding! And then he went through the portal..." As they heard this, frowns and lowered ears following this. Twilight began to tear up as Flash placed a wing on her back, pulling her closer to him. She placed her head on his shoulder, all now letting this information sink in.

*hugs the purple alicorn* I know Twilight, I know. :fluttercry:

"She's right," Trixie nodded. "What if Spike was somepony else before you met him? We know age spells exist, so what if he had one used on him and he got turned back into an egg?"

Twilight blinked at the suggestion, humming for a second, "I...guess that's possible? Maybe he was reverted back so far his brain wasn't able to hold his memories, which is why he didn't remember anything when he hatched."

"But how did he end up with Twilight?" Fluttershy asked, the others turning to her before slowly going over to the alicorn that was responsible for Twilight and Spike's meeting, as it was her school that made Twilight hatch him.

Celestia saw every eye on the room was upon her, "Your majesty?" Skybreaker asked.

"I always meant to ask," Twilight added, "But whenever the question popped into my head, something else was going on, so it wasn't a good time."

"How did Spike's egg become part of Twilight's test?" Flash continued, Celestia and Luna sharing a glance.

"Maybe it is time, sister."

Alright Royal Sisters, spill it!!!:ajbemused:

Starswirl carefully placed the chest down, "Something very precious. I've safeguarded it for many a year, upon request of someone very special. And while I had hoped to remain its guardian until it hatched, I think it would be best if I entrusted it to somepony else. Or a pair of someponies."

"Us?" Luna replied, Starswirl nodding before he magically unlocked the chest. It opened to show a light purple egg with dark purple spots inside. "An egg?"

"A very special egg," Starswirl corrected, "One that might not hatch for hundreds of years. Not until the dragon inside is ready."

Now I'm looking forward to this reunion between Starswirl & Spike at S7 finale! :moustache:

Everypony was completely silent as they let this information sink in, Springer whispering, "Spike's even older than me? And he was stuck in an egg for a thousand years? Huh."

You & me both buddy! :twilightoops:

He continued walking, unsure how long he actually did so. It could have been minutes, hours, days or longer, as everything was a blur to him. "Gyah! Is there anything here?!" He screamed, "Heck, I'd settle for a freaking book to read!"

But as he yelled this, a flash of light suddenly shined in front of him. He was blinded for a second before his eyes adjusted, now seeing the light form into...a book.

Spike blinked at this before looking up, "Wait...I could just ask for something like this? Um...I'd also settle for a video game!" he exclaimed...only for nothing to happen, "Dang it!" He glared back at the book, "Fine..." He grabbed the book, opening it up, only for another blinding light to explode out of it. "Gyah!"

lol not gonna lie, I would have done that as well! :rainbowlaugh:

Freed from beneath the mountain was a kind of rock that was flat and smooth, with something carved into the rock. It was a circle roughly five meters in diameter, with a symbol of carved into it. He placed a claw onto it and smirked, "Lightning." He turned to the rest of the dragons, "There are four more hidden here! FIND THEM!" The dragons got back to work as Flicker created another portal, soon arriving back at the crater.

As he arrived, the black lightning had stopped as his grin grew, "Second by second, my triumph grows closer." As he said that, two somethings roared from out of the crater. And along the edge of the crater, a large gunmetal gray arm with four bright silver claws came out, clawing the ground while a giant yellow bat wing with a white membrane and a large spike coming out of it did the same. Another pair of roars left the crater, cracks forming as the ground began to shake. The wood dragon also awakened at this, unravelling itself before taking to the air.

Still trying to figure out how the taken Knights are powering up *these dragons* so to speak! :rainbowhuh:

By that cliffhanger it seems the action's gonna crank up again at the Crystal Empire next time around, looking forward to it!

Oh dear. If Malafear's attacking the Crystal Empire then it can mean one thing: he's after Ruby next.

id he kidnapping them due to their elements matching the dragons like trying to revive them or womething

Gee, a lot of what you're churning out for this series lately really reads like a shonen anime. Unfortunately, I don't enjoy the genre enough to fully appreciate all the work you're putting in. That being said, you've got good ideas story-wise.

While I can understand and respect your opinions about this story and the mystery of Spike's origin might sound "unnatural" because of the reveal. I feel mixed about it. Although, I am still willing to continue to read this story. The creators worked hard on this for years and it would be respectful to keep reading until the end. Maybe we will be surprised with unexpected twists. Who knows? (Please note: I am not criticizing you on this in any way. You make a fair argument and a few valid points about the flaws)

BTW, I just want to say we did get a Smolder cameo in the previous chapter.

I going to make a prediction about the rest of the rest of this entry

  • Malafear will first, for all practical purposes, sack The Crystal Empire
  • Malafear will successfully take over Flash
  • Spike will learn how Silverbolt defeated Malafear
  • Spike will learn the connection between Silverbolt and him
  • Malafear will take over other types of dragons
  • Malafear will reconstitute himself and leave Flicker
  • Malafear will regain his old power and all but gain more
  • Malafear will drop his guard thinking he won and he losses control of the Royal Knights and Spike is freed
  • Spike will somehow take on the power of Silverbolt and will somehow break the other dragons free of Malafear.
  • Spike using the power of Silverbolt will defeat Malafear and instead of trapping his spirit in a tomb behind a mural will finish the job and destroy Malafear
  • There will be something that causes Spike to either revert back into normal form, and in order to save Ember's face and have her become Dragon Lord again, he orders she challenges him. Ember wins and becomes Dragon Lord again
  • There is the rebuilding and Flicker tells what he can recall
  • Peace between Dragons and Ponies is restored, somehow
  • Everyone goes back home and the entry ends with the set up for what will be the first episode of Flash Sentry Chronicles: Defender of the Peace Season 7

The specifics may elude me, but let's be sincere, the board strokes are easily derived. But no matter what Spike's connection to Silverbolt is, this takes away from Spike's character because it makes Spike different from other dragons by his nature, when Spike is a compelling character and interesting dragon because Spike is different from them by his nurture.
The comparison between Goku and Vegeta is interesting not they are both Saiyans, but because Goku grew up always approving himself and in humility, Vegeta grew up entitled and that natural power is all that matters and how Goku's nurture changed Vegeta. And while the DBS Brolly movie, has done wonders for Broly as a character, there isn't any thing of interest between Goku and Broly given their simular natures.

Thus I ask, how does this farther Spike as a character, maybe if Spike was related to Malafear and it's revealed that Malafear was raised much like Spike, then that would be something that would shape Spike going forward, but with the focus on Silverbolt, Spike is no longer different from other dragons because of how in many regards Ponies have a better society, now he's different because of how he was bred

I guess we will have to wait and see how this story turns out in the end.

Wow! What an intense chapter!

Heart is definitely far from experience, he really need to cut his Leeroy Jenkins crap.

It's interesting that Banshee chose to give the dragons average lifespans but how old is Torch?

Here's highlights

"You old charmer." She turned to gesture him to come in, the three entering the cave with Spike following. The cave looked pretty snug, with many warm rocks at the back and spikes higher up that looked perfect for back scratching. They soon reached the back, Spike spotting a hole in the ground that appeared to be radiating heat. And laying in the middle of it was something that made Spike go wide-eyed. An egg.

SPIKE IS THE SON OF SILVERBOLT AND FIRA!!!!! I BEEN JOSSED!!!!!!

But before either of them could say it, the memory ended, Spike now back in the void. But unlike before, he didn't start looking for another book. He just sat down, whispering, "Am I...a Mystic Flame Dragon?"

Uh.... I guess... yes?

"That's a mental defense rune that should protect you from any kind of mental manipulation. Malafear might have been able to dispel a rune made from my magic, but one charged with alicorn magic is an entirely different story." Ember smirked at this while Twilight powered up the Rune Gate with her magic.

You may be an asshole but I will give you a point for putting a rune spell on Ember to protect her from Malafear.

"HEART!" Soul screamed, seeing her brother now vanish. The sight made her ears flop down, whimpering, "Oh no..."

REALLY HEART, REALLY?!?!?! :twilightangry2: :flutterrage:

"That's right!" A voice behind the pony group yelled, causing them all to turn and see Fire Heart standing behind them. "So just give up before we have to hurt you too badly!" He then saw everyone glaring at him, "What?"

:facehoof: :facehoof: :facehoof:

You are so unbelievable, Heart. 😡

"Rainbow, Applejack, Trixie, Ember, Script and I will help Ruby. The rest of you get the rune gate to the castle where it'll be safe. If it starts glowing, put it back on the floor and stand back." They nodded, Rarity grabbing the rune gate in her magic as Twilight glanced around. "Heart, when that gate opens you're-" She stopped when she saw the colt was gone, the princess' eyes going wide as she looked back at where the wood dragon was. "Oh no."

YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Twilight glared at him, "If we're so pathetic, then why are you so obsessed with capturing us? Iron, Lightning, Ruby, Flash...what do you want with them?"

Malafear went wide-eyed for a second before hissing, "A great injustice was done to me long ago. And the only way to make things right is with those that caused that injustice."

"What?" Twilight asked, "That doesn't make any sense. You must have been defeated hundreds of years ago."

"Over twelve hundred years ago," Malafear corrected.

"Exactly," Twilight responded, "And none of them were even born yet. Not even Ruby." Her horn ignited, "So why do you think they're the ones that did that to you?"

So Iron, Lightning, Ruby, Flash and maybe First Aid & Heather Bloom were involved with stopping Malafear? I swear if this isn't reincarnation, I going to lose it!

The others dragons gasped at this, only to Malafear fly up and pin him down. The dragon tried to squirm under the him, but Malafear began to glow a dark light. That light spread to the other dragon and made it cry out, "And with this, your soul is now mine." Malafear opened his mouth and the light was sucked off the dragon and into swallowed by him.

Great, he's Shang Tsung of this universe!

Malafear laughed at the bewildered looks on their faces. "May I introduce, the Lightning and Iron Dragons!" The dragons charged, the five leaping away from the wood dragon. And as it began to pick itself up, the five protectors of Equestria knew this was just the beginning

No shit, Sherlock.

Good chapter.

Let me check my predictions,

  • Malafear will first, for all practical purposes, sack The Crystal Empire Check
  • Malafear will successfully take over Flash
  • Spike will learn how Silverbolt defeated Malafear
  • Spike will learn the connection between Silverbolt and him They are father and son, Check

Not as many points as I hoped, but yeah Malafear and his dragons are in the process of sacking The Crystal Empire and it takes little to correctly infer that Silverbolt is Spike's dad. Still takes a lot away from Spike as a character because he's no longer special due to how he was raised, but now he was born special.

Fun fact about this chapter, Banshee and I had a minor disagreement regarding how dragons age in Banshee's continuity. I wanted to be traditional and have long spans like it's done in most media, while Banshee gave them them an average lifespan.

What consitutes an average life span? Also it takes away from the Dragon-ness of dragons.

I eventually relented and begrudgingly went along with his interpretation.

You should have been more adamant in your resolve, because a dragon's longevity is a key part especially to what can categorized as 'Western Intellectuals' (Think Smaug from The Hobbit) or 'Eastern Sages (think Haku from Spirited Away or Shenron for Dragon Ball).

I'm happy with how the story is progressing in spite of what some people are saying about it.

I am not saying the story is bad, I am saying that it takes away Spike's uniqueness in his world by making him born special when what makes him special is how he was raised. He's a lot like Clark Kent that way, he has the power to rival any dragon, but he has a heart, mind and soul tampered with the Equestrian culture of Love, Friendship, Fellowship, etc. which enables him to achieve things no other dragon can do because to them the only way to solve a problem in the MLP FiM universe is to burn it until it is no longer a problem.

But what do you all think?

Could drop the whole Spike's origins plot-line, or instead of having Silverbolt as Spike's father, make Malafear the father and give Malafear an origin that for all intents and purposes is the same as Spike's, because that will actually challenge Spike as a character, force him to question himself, have some conflict about himself, knowing that his upbringing is not a guarantee that he won't be come a monster, that everything is ultimately in his talons to decide what and who he is and it should be that conflict should be at the heart of the story, not everyone trying to stop Malafear from reconstituting himself mainly because we know the end, they are going to beat him, free the dragons, and everything is mostly going to go back to the status quo as of the end of Celestial Advice and the start off with whatever will be the first chapter of Flash Sentry Defender of the Peace Season 7 be it Bottled Up, A Flurry of Emotions, Rock Study Friendship or Fluttershy Leans In or whatever Banshee wants to start the Season 7 proper with. What lasting effects will this entry have other than Spike is no longer special because he was raised by Ponies, he's special because he was born special.

Well this was an interesting turn of events. How will Flash and the others get out of this. Will they even be able to get out of this. Only time will tell.

It would be more compelling if they don't. For a few reasons

  • If they do, it takes away from the danger that Malafear is suppose to pose.
  • If they do, it will shorten the conflict as Malafear can't win
  • If they don't, it better conveys Malafear as the threat that he is
  • If they don't it gets the plot going as Malafear will be able to get closer to his goals
  • If they don't, the others are forced to actually think of a solution because they can not be reliant upon The Royal Knights to punch the problem to until it's no longer one.

I could go on, but I think I've made my point

What consitutes an average life span? Also it takes away from the Dragon-ness of dragons.

I believe the average human life span.

Wow, battle at the Crystal Empire! Awesome! The big battle against the Wood Dragon was intense. But as soon as they finally managed to beat it, we get two more new dragons to take its place.

The big reveal with Spike's true relationship with Silverbolt came as a surprise. He isn't a reincarnation of him or a de-aged Silverbolt, he's the son of Silverbolt and Fira! I guess that explains why we never saw him do Lightning magic like Silverbolt. He inherited his mom's fire nature instead.

Silverbolt's explanation on how Spike survived is pretty cool, but also a bit depressing. An egg belonging to a Mystic Dragon surviving for as long as needed until it needs to hatch to achieve its destiny sounds cool on paper, but then there is what happened to Silverbolt, being passed from person to person, not knowing your parents or original family. Poor Fira seemed so excited to be a mother, but she never got to meet her son.

We also learn a bit more about Malafear and his plans. He can steal the elemental powers of other dragons for himself. It looks like that ending implies he can do it to ponies too, and is somehow using the Royal Knights to power his other dragons.

"And with this, your soul is now mine." Malafear opened his mouth and the light was sucked off the dragon and into swallowed by him.

Soul stealing always gives me the creeps. Though Malafear's line is a bit fitting since I finally watched the Mortal Kombat movie. He definetly seemed to be channeling his inner Shang Tsung here.

"Oh, come on!" Heart interrupted before flying ahead, "I was born for this battle. Wood Dragon against my fire will only end in one overly crispy dragon!"

Fire Heart, you might be tough, but you're basically a Charmander trying to fight a Torterra. It won't end well for you.

I really hope it will be a good ending. Good chapter.
Heart, you little stupid colt !!!!! An order is a order, stay put !!!!!

10821109
Yeah I think he should have kept the Dragon lifespan.
