Hmm. The thing is, canon-wise this should be Chrysalis-Cadence... Which makes the whole thing rather creepy.

I like it!
Chrysalis may be evil, but she feeds on love, and that means she knows how to harvest it.

See, this is how I think changelings live day-to-day. They just get ponies to talk about their loved ones or otherwise feel love and then OM NOM NOM the emotion.

The interesting thing is that it doesn't *have* to be sinister...but I imagine that you can feast so much more if you're disguised *as* a loved one rather than just nearby.

If this is real Cadence, then this is pretty sweet.
If this is fake Cadence, than this is pretty OOC, as fake Cadence was pretty dismissive and impolite to adult ponies, so Celestia knows how'd she act around actual immature fillies.

Super weird, since it (a) is not clear if this is Cadance or Chrysalis (though it essentially must be Chrysalis), and (b) alludes to Cadance being present for the first Hearts and Hooves (even though Twilight's flashbacks make clear that she ages and is mortal). :unsuresweetie:

If this is Chrysalis, then I must say that she is acting rather out of character.

This might be before the changlings. We don't know WHEN the change happened. :derpyderp2:

Chrysalis certainly never showed this side of herself in the show, but could it have existed? Definitely. Really, I'm surprised that a (presumably) experienced changeling like herself acted out of her victim's character so often. Kindness (feigned, of course) should be a very important part of her box of tricks. Cute story, and surprisingly thought-provoking for something so simple.

498881 Maybe. But Chrysalis seems smart enough to view foals as potential information mines. There are some things kids tend to be loose-lipped about.
499309 Well, she has to have had some subtlety. She'd need it in order to have done the switch in the first place and of course, this would be the perfect way to pick out targets.
499620 We do have something of a time frame. Remember how long Shining Armor said he'd been having migraines? That would be when the switch was.
500565 She broke character where she felt she could get away with it, I think. Doubtless maintaining the facade was stressful. Especially close to the climactic moment.

If I had hackles, they would have been raised for that entire conversation. Good god, if you didn't know her secret, that would have been d'awww type material, but as it is... So very, very wrong. And the line from the song at the end... Urrgh. My skin crawled. Well done sir, and a thumb for you.

Thanks for reading and commenting, everypony! It means a lot to me.

I don't mind admitting that I've written Chrysalis as a bit out of character here. I feel that the Queen of the Changelings should be able to put up a more convincing façade than she did. The problem is that the writers had to create a character who could fool Princess Celestia, but eight-year-old viewers could still figure out there was something wrong. I don't have that constraint here, so I've made Chrysalis's deception a bit more skilful. (If it's Chrysalis. :trollestia:)

That's a really interesting idea. I was going for the idea that she was just scouting out potential food sources for her and her subjects, but siphoning second-hand love? Very insidious.

Ahaha, this gives me an idea. Since she got all nostalgic about the love poison, it made me think that maybe Chrysalis was the princess in the book who got the original love poison used on her... back when she was a pony. Then her mortal lover died and the spell became unbreakable, draining away her very ability to love, and consuming her spirit until she turned into a monster as the original changeling.

I'm amazed by how the reader's entire perspective just flips at that last line. From "d'awww" to "OHSHI-" in two seconds flat. Nicely done!

887227 I'm glad you liked it! I've left the story intentionally ambiguous - it's up to each reader to decide whom the Crusaders were talking to. :trollestia: Thanks for reading and commenting on so much of my other stuff, too! It always makes my day.

Write it! Princess of the flutter ponies, whose bodies changed along with hers due to the chaos that reigned...

Good to see that Cadance Notevil Goodpony cares so much about her little ponies :pinkiecrazy:

596077 That is... yes. Just yes :rainbowkiss:
