Three Chapters!
I'm liking Heartford. Unflappable in the face of unexpected things, he let his 'tired old man' side show for a moment, and he's resistant to going after the Gryphons for not doing more to help. Good guy. Has Darryl had any real contact with the Marines while Artex and Heartford are having their meetings? I can see them doing a lot of questioning of him and Rose. Not to mention that you've got 2k Marines who just met Ponies. They're gonna be curious. And Rose might be curious, too, about the WMs, given the male/female divide she's experienced in Equestria.
Subject verb awkwardness. consider revising.
Interesting that when Artex was told either Celestia or Luna could be the neutral voice, he immediately decided it would be Celestia.
And the Major is a lot easier to get along with when he's got food in him.
Wonder what happens when Heartford and his command find out just how recognized the gryphons are for being like Marines?
I foresee many many joint training exercises once they get the tribunal done and over with. Maybe a reparation from both sides?
And here I thought marines would bend over backwards for coffee. After fourteen weeks without it I think I'd dislocate my jaw ordering the prisoners released.
Hmm. Coffee. Think I'll make some.
Rose would make a way better mascot than a bulldog.
but why are the Marines maintaining an exercise routine when they're starving?
I'm no wilderness survival expert, but seems like an inefficient use of calories.

Probably because it's a familiar routine and not doing it feels wrong to them.
Thats an awful lot of combat speciliasts to suddenly have turn up. Its nearly 10% of current active UK forces? just how many more human groups are there around this world? how long before the first high energy particle beam probes start emmiting from highly unstable distortion warps?
I keep forgetting if a Kavin Fathom is similar to human, that of 6 foot, or 2 metres approx. that was a biiig pile of supplies even so.
The marines have also had their magical infusion event, but are living in a region of low magic? Might they need checking on, training up in stages, instead of straight to high magic New humansville, with the Changelings, rifin etc, just as they get their surges?
6209315 The Kavim Fathom is about three feet or one meter (not exact, but close). A Fathom is also the length of a normal Kavim from head to tail.
Chekov's Marines? If you bring 2000 Marines onstage in the first act, they better be used by the third act.
6209894 ??? What are you talking about? I am confused.

From wiki: Chekhov's gun is a dramatic principle that requires every element in a narrative to be irreplaceable, with anything else removed.
"Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there."—Anton Chekhov
Basically, if you're bringing so many human soldiers into the story it should be for a reason, otherwise why would you write about it? It could have been just another random group of people but they are highly trained soldiers and that affects any other developments.
6210034 Ah, now I understand. Yes, there is a reason for the Marines, but it is not quite a major as you may think.
After a lot of comments about spetnaz,..Now, I want spetnaz to appear...for the "hilarity" that would ensue.
But, that is highly unlikely. And I don't think you know enough about spetnaz to write them. You cannot just go off on stereotype and propaganda from anyone. (Also, I would like to think a special military force should know at least some English to communicate... English is mandatory in developing countries's education system, there are no reason at least a good portion of Russia don't know English so the language barrier is not as prominent)
Aside from that random though and how it is not practical to simply dump a special military force out of nowhere for one own amusement, nothing much to comment about.
On a different note,
It would be interesting to see how the marines react to every single civillians having at least 1 weapon, humans using magicz...etc...
6210076 After the Bloodmages killed so many CWG, I was thinking the arrival of the Marines was very timely. NHV needs more protectors.
Then we found out there's 2,000 of them.
I'm thinking they need to go on the offensive against the Bloodmages as soon as possible. Those guys have the magical equivalent of the T-virus, and they've already used it once. What's to stop them from sending a thrall to every major population center, with a vial of the stuff?
Whew!
