Small world, Eduardo.
Loving every chapter
5356838 No, it's not the same thing. It's something to strive toward, not something that can actually be attained.
I foresee a glimmer of hope for Beacon.
5358318 That was hard as hell to pull off. thank you for noticing.
5358930 It started as a mock religion. Some people seriously believe in it.
5358977 Ah, so it went the route of Scientology.
5359242 No, he followed through with the action to complete the murder. The intent and action was there. The only reason that mare is alive is because of the intervention. The man crossed the final line and followed through, he's guilty.
5359264 Yes but if she didn't die, then it doesn't matter if he did his best to kill her, since she's not dead. I agree with the punishment though, it's just semantics.
Finally caught up. Beacon's a lovely interesting character, the interactions with the changelings are up there among my favorite parts (Changelings best ponies. Changelings all ponies.) and Eduardo... ouch.
Well done, as always. Looking forward to more. Beacon is still one of my favorites. Not sure what's about to happen to him, though.

Beacon is one of the most simple characters I have. Why do so many people like him?
5360060 Because people realizing they did wrong and trying to redeem themselves is something a lot of people are suckers for.

Simple doesn't equate to uninteresting. Personally, Suey is my favorite character, heh.
5360095 I actually modeled Suey after a huge sow on the pig farm where I worked. We called her Behemoth. She was big, I mean BIG. She was a bit bigger than our boars. I'd put her up there with Hogzilla. She was a sweetie though. I was being lazy one day and she let me rest my head against her belly. She was a great pig.
He is a bit of a mystery. You have a character who was duped into doing something bad, and upon realizing it became very repentant. He accepted his punishment and bore it right up to the point where he thought he was sacrificing himself in service of that punishment. Survived due to some kind of interference which is not clearly understood, and given a new sentence. He was really the first to try breaking the human/pony barrier, by simply sleeping with them, and attaching himself to Ashley. Since then he's mostly silently served beside her, doing everything he possibly can to assist her. However, he's not really brought up much in the story itself, despite those hints of his import. So, what we, the reader, are left with is a character who may or may not be important (for all we know, he was 'saved' for the purpose of helping break down that human/pony barrier, and is no longer needed), has been in the center of several major events, and yet is to a large extent a blank slate that we can imagine about. What does he do? What are his feelings? We see that coming out now, and now are left with just as many questions. How far will he go? Will he be noticed? Perhaps his death will serve as some kind of catalyst to spur some action to progress the story in some manner?
5360060 Simple? He's repentant to the degree of Flagellantism!
The guy is in a very, very deep hole. Self-loathing and in love with a person he hurt very badly, a person who also seems to be involved with someone else. This is High Drama, boss.
A suggestion. I know they are going to put out the information packets on humans to better understand them. What about a museum of humanity? Showing the best and worst of us with particular emphasis on the 20th century for obvious reasons. Exams are coming up so I don't have this completely thought out. Fill in the blanks wherever.
5360934 Something like that is already in the works.
5360924 The situation is complex, but Beacon's character and personality are very simple.
Why not have Longwind take Amber to work with her? If she's still giving language lessons her daughter will give her students someone else to practice with, Amber will get to talk to humans and she will still be under the watchful eyes of her mother, everybody wins

Typos spotted, as you requested, wonderful Sir Author!
There was supposed to be magically enchanted chainmail under the armor plates.
The knife tip would have barely managed to poke him through the links in the chainmail, but that'd be at most a ~1/8th inch depth.
Nope. You need better armor, plain and simple.
In prison, they use sharpened plastic toothbrush handles (with a scrap of metal or rock secured with rubber bands, or what ever they can get their hands on) to the same effect against the guard's kevlar, and it still goes through an inch or two if the attacker uses enough force.
A guy with a nail or a narrow stick could get the same or better results, and those are prevolent everywhere around new construction.
You can't realistically limit the availability of effective shanking implements in the town, so you need armor that does it's job properly against such weapons.
