Spike has always had a crush on Rarity and he was hoping one day she would realize it and fall in love with him. He had an idea of what his future would be like with her.
Rarity on the other hand never took Spike for more than a friend or little brother, on the day she is moving away to canterlot she has one final conversation with Spike.
Will anything come of it, or will it just be a painful goodbye?

I didn't want any definite scenarios since I was trying something out here.
Even the ending could be interpreted as wished.
It leaves the question. Did Rarity love him?
The fire heart ruby and the last line could imply so. I am leaving it all to the reader's imagination.

She wasn't smiling in the end of the fic either you know. She had to leave everything behind to start a new. Sure she was cruel to spike but it was for he could hate her and move on.
So while Spike was being told off for his own good I guess it just came across as mindless hatred towards him and if so I am sorry but that wasn't the message of the story.
The story was about how eventually it will be possible (since it hasn't happened canon) that Spike will be rejected through circumstance or confrontation.
So while I can understand the people backing Spike, please let's not just hate on Rarity for being ... Rarity.

She's making the decision to leave all her friends for fame and fortune and callously rejects Spike again for what is honestly a rather petty and selfish reason. She used him for three years while being fully aware of his crush and then doesn't even try to mince her words when she shuts him down. It takes her all of a paragraph to put into words how little three years of emotions meant to her. +1 total bastard

I don't mind a sad story, in fact I find them very refreshing, I just feel like it didn't really do Rarity justice. It's believable, but I somehow wish they'd had more time to talk. I would still be find with it ending the way it did, it just seemed rushed. Rarity cares about her friends more then anything else, even when that means she has to suffer through something that drives her nuts (Green Isn't Your Color). That she could be so dismissive to Spike, and just push him away so quickly, it just doesn't feel like her.
Oh well, you had a goal, to write a sad Sparity fic, and mission accomplished. Well designed and written, even with what parts of it I didn't care for. I look forward to seeing what else you will produce!

3234750 I suggest you watch the episode where Rarity goes to Canterlot I forgot what it's called but she doesn't even make Twilight the birthday gift intended because she decides her presence as a canterlot elite is more important than Twilight's birthday. Almost skipped her birthday completely to stay in the high society.
Case in point Rarity gives no bucks about others unless it suits her to.
The Sonic Rainboom is a good example episode of how little Rarity considers her friends.
