First Lieutenant John "Aquila" Killinger was on a less than routine patrol flight, when he was somehow teleported to a different planet. Little does he know, he is the last hope for the inhabitants of this strange world.

Meh, pretty good. I like it, lets hope you don't Mary Sue your character
2690109 Didn't know what you meant by 'Mary Sue', so I looked it up. I am going to have to thank you, because I can see where I'm starting to head down that path (you might not be able to tell because I haven't written a lot of it down yet), and that is one thing that I do NOT want to happen.
So, I shall alter a few things in the coming chapters to get things started in the right direction. Of course, nobody knows how I'll change things, so there's really no need to say anything about it ... but if you DO know, then get out of my head! NO SPOILERS!
Also, side note: Gonna start work on another story soon, so expect something to pop up in a few weeks.
A pilot has grunt type of PTSD. Seems legit.
I'm sorry, but what? A pilot shouldn't freak out when a *boom* sound goes off, a grunt would, not a pilot. Especially an USAF pilot. I don't care what happens in the plane, the cockpit is airtight, meaning any, and all *Boom* Sounds, would come off as more of a *thunk* than anything else.
Plus, only having it happen to you a few times, doesn't give PTSD, It would have to happen numerous times, which is why grunts get it. Even four year and out, grunts would get it.
Also, a pilot would never let anyone, but the USAF mechanics touch his plane, without CO's permission, of course. It's practically common sense, they also teach it, one of the most important things they teach, other than "Not hitting the ground at high speeds".

So far, John's pretty far away from Gary Stu territory. The story isn't so much focusing on him right now as it is on the A-10, f'rex, and we haven't really seen his presence completely change ponies' personalities away from what they normally are in series. I don't think being a Mary Sue / Gary Stu is a problem he has to face.
Unfortunately, i agree with Bonanuu about the reaction to BOOOM in a pilot. Not only would he only hear 'thunk", but over-reacting like that in any way shape or form will cause the pilot to very likely send the plane out of control, and go BOOOM. Whereas an Infantry man has what would be considered a smart reaction to dive for cover, where the HELL would a pilot dive to? A pilot's first reaction to hearing a BOOOM would pretty much be the same as almost anyone else WITHOUT infantry experience - duck, maybe raise his arms over his head or cover his ears if it was REALLY loud, and look around to see where it came from. IN a plane, however, his first reaction would be to glance at radar, then instruments, to find out what it was ASAP.
As for the 'touching of the plane', when there's no such thing as a US Air Force, he really doesn't have a choice, Bonanuu - so on that point I have to disagree with you. That plane MUST be moved, and the ordinance MUST be taken care of, pronto, and he has no other choice than use locals.
2690306 Explanations will come soon, and it's not as far fetched as it may seem. It may not be too historically accurate, but it's a story.
Oh, and jumping like that isn't necessarily PTSD, it's more of a training reflex, which will also be explained
So you're saying that he should be moving his aircraft by himself? Even if he was in perfect health, and had the body of freaking He-Man, it would still be impossible.
2690449 No, But he sure as hell wouldnt be letting someone not in the US military doing it.
2690477 He's the only human on the face of the planet (that we know of), and you're suggesting that he just leaves his multi-million dollar aircraft, with a full load of ordinance, in the middle of an apple orchard until personnel with proper clearance somehow find their way through a Gate?
2690477
Please note my reply to your previous comment. He has NO CHOICE, as the US Air Force DOES NOT EXIST here.
2690532 Which is exactly why he shouldn't let them touch it. Seriously. If you did any amount of research on ANY military on this planet, you should know that no one wants their technology to be distributed. I don't care if "Its the only way" Thats why you destroy it with any means necessary
2690497 He destroys it. Thats what you are taught to do.
2690234
Haha Glad ya know, Just be careful
2690727 He doesn't have the means to destroy it. Plus, he was taken from the cockpit and admitted to a hospital while unconscious. If the equestrians really wanted to steal the tech, they would've done it then, IF they had actually known what it was.
Besides, it's not like we sell our own military hardware and technology to our allies or anything. Granted, we don't sell our BEST equipment, but we still sell it.
2694375 "He doesn't have the means to destroy it"
...
Are you fucking joking me?
It says in the story that the A-10C is still fully armed.
*sigh* Whatever.
2690306 Just noticed, but since he's the only human on the planet, wouldn't that make him automatically the highest rank? Or at least acting CO? Just a thought.
2695011 If on a mission, if a sergeant dies, does a lance corporal become sergeant? No.
Yes, he gains control, but only to a certain extent.
2694383 Yes, but HOW would he detonate said ordinance? He could light it on fire, but the fire department would most likely put it out before it cooked off.
Assuming he does somehow set off something without killing himself, he would then have a pissed off Ponyville, and quite possibly Princesses, chasing him down. He would eventually get captured, would no longer have an aircraft, and the storyline would basically be over.
So, unless you want to make a rewrite that fixes every so-called "breach in protocol", just go with it. I'm almost positive that there'll be a few more of them in the future, but I'm not going to change it... unless it's so stupidly stupid that it would be stupid not to.
2695011 In a matter of speaking, but I haven't gotten to that point yet.... so....
*Puts on sunglasses*
You didn't see anything...
*Presses button on Neuralyzer*
2695128 Then don't write about stuff that you haven't looked into. Especially something like this. You want criticism? I'm giving you criticism. Thats how the US- Nay, any military works.
2695188 Oh, for the love of all things holy...
I HAVE looked into it, and I am fairly well versed in the SOP of various situations in both land and air combat. However, I am just choosing to ignore a few of them for the sake of the story.
If you would like, I will include some parts with proper SOP later on, just for you.
And, yes, I want criticism. It helps me plan out sections and gives me ideas. For example, the banter between the two of us, as well as a few others, has helped me to change the story DRASTICALLY (for the better, I hope). You just can't easily tell yet because I haven't yet reached many of the parts that have been changed.
And, NO, I'm not getting annoyed or pissed or anything because of your comments (even though it may seem like it at times). It's just a little frustrating at times trying to explain why I'm doing things a certain way. The kinks should work themselves out over time, and I'm positive that this isn't the only story that doesn't adhere 100% to proper military protocol.
2695276 I know this isnt the only story that doesn't have 100% military accuracy. The reason that I focus on this story, is because it has the potential to be more. It really does.
Good god I'm loving this story....
For the love of God, WRITE MOAR!!! MUST HAVE MOAR!!!!
MOAR
Is this story going to get updated? Or is it dead. Because if so I am ready to purge a few stories from my fav list and I want to know which ones to get rid of.
2720506 It should get updated sometime before tomorrow. It's just taking longer than expected because I've got a few more pressing matters to deal with ATM. Not too busy at work today, so I'll probably get it done before I go home.
Also, typing is a bit awkward now because I've burnt the tips of 3 of my fingers because by little sister was being while cooking. It's pretty much cut my typing speed in half.
Pinkie spiked the punch? I was thinking that'd be Vinyl
At one point, she had tried to lick his ear.
