It is four hundred years before the Unification of the three pony tribes and founding of Equestria. The events that prepared the three tribes began by chance, long before the idea of Harmony was even believed possible.

It is a time when Earth ponies struggle against abuse, exploitation, subjugation, and sometimes even outright slavery.

Unicorns and Pegasi regularly take their food, leaving them struggling to survive each winter. When an Earth pony gains their mark in something of value, they are often stolen away, forced into labor for the rest of their lives. Their treatment by other races is rarely better. Most are worse, if not outright deadly.

Pegasi, with their wings and weather control, can strike anywhere. Unicorns and their spells can lay them low from a distance. Their few free towns and cities never remain so long enough to develop any means with which to fight back. They have ideas, but learning is always stolen or destroyed with each raid. Each generation struggles just to maintain what has been, hoping to find a new way.

Then came the day a village, four years into a new subjugation, found a strange wounded biped known to them only by tale and legend shortly after a Unicorn visit took much of their food yet again one mid-winter. Unwilling to let him die in the cold even with so little to share, they take him in.

With a sign from the gods and the stranger's knowledge, one mare and her village begin to see a chance to finally break the cycle and be free.

A side story and ancient history in the same verse as my main story, Protecting Harmony. Timeline of the verse places the events of this story roughly around 4000 years in the past. The specifics of why are complicated in this intricate and expansive verse. Initial expected length was once projected under 50k words. However, considering the sheer volume of stuff I need to do, I have recognized it's not going to be enough. I have a terrible capacity for thinking up more stuff to add to something of this nature on top of it.

Initial inspiration came from listening to this thematic musical score: Chinese battle music - Xian

I had a moment of pondering what made Unicorns and Pegasi see Earth ponies as equals. About what makes the Earth tribe such an equally vital part of the triad and what those qualities are.

This story is the result.

To a certain extent, I am drawing from my understanding of the natural tendencies of humans and other species expressing preferential bias towards those like themselves, be it in family groups or up to the species as a whole. In ancient times, humans were quite brutal towards just rival nations visually identical to themselves. Where things like differences in skin color came into play, I don't think anyone needs to be reminded of how much worse it could get.

The great adventure achieved its goal. Twilight Sparkle was cured of her deadly horn rot, her friends came back safely, and everything can go back to normal.

Except, of course, that such an upheaval is never truly forgettable. It leaves its mark on all who take part in it, touching and changing them in ways they may not, at the time, completely understand. Like the pressure in the earth that turns coal into diamonds, the stresses of disaster--or its near aversion--alter the natures of ponies, and alter the relationships between them. Twilight Sparkle, on a seemingly ordinary day, is about to learn that first hand.

This story has been floating around since shortly after Dangerous Business' completion. At the time, I envisioned it as the first in what would be a whole cycle of stories, building up to a monumental, multi-story tale very similar to what eventually became Besides the Will of Evil. It's not quite 'canon' to BTWOE--for one thing, Twilight and Spike's relationship here isn't what it is in there, since the later clarifications by the showrunners were taken into account with the later story. However, I like to think that the spirit of this story still informs the later, larger story. Astute readers will also see a clarification of something that was only hinted at in BTWOE. I hope old readers enjoy their fond memories, and that new readers enjoy what has long been a fan favorite.

Fixing this problem is the only solution I have to redeem myself, if I ever want to look in a mirror again or ever want to sleep. I just have to say...I'm sorry.

I never meant for this to happen. I just wanted it to stop, I just wanted those dreams to end. But when I found out the real purpose, of his goal I brought him here. And for that I can't apologize enough. So I'm going to redeem myself, even if it costs me my last breath.

In a alternate universe where Hailstorm's curse forces him to peer into the world of Gravity Falls the human sees things- sees symbols that bother him incessantly. Unable to stand the torment his mind is taking the young adult writes said symbols on the wall, summoning a being of great power, with a desire for even greater chaos. In a strange twist of fate Hailstorm realizes his mistake and forms a deal to spare his world of the turmoil he has brought, but instead sends himself and the being known as Bill Cipher to the world of Equestria.

Now Bill Cipher is free in a different world, but must rest temporarily while he gathers the necessary ingredients to bring Equestria into ruin. It is now up to Hailstorm, and another lord of chaos to solve this problem. The only question is will they really be able to outsmart the all knowing triangle, or will they find some way to defeat this being together, with the elements of harmony and one daring pegasus?

Only time will tell.

After some traveling, Trixie eventually finds herself with a group of archaeologists digging up some ancient ruins. Due to a brief encounter with a being from another world, Trixie finds herself in the world of pokémon. Follow Trixie as she goes on an adventure like never she's ever experienced, meeting new friends and discovering new sights.

Rainbow Dash struggles with reading and paying attention, but she wants to get better so she can continue playing sports. She is willing to do anything to help, and that includes being placed in special ed.

When Igneous Rock Pie falls and breaks his hoof in the mine, Big Mac decides to go out to the farm and help with the some of the heavy lifting until he gets back on his feet. Not knowing how long he'll end up staying nor what all he'll need to fulfill Igneous Rock's duties, he brings the usual tools and travel gear he normally brings on long trips. He soon finds out however that day to day life on a rock farm is very different from life on an apple orchard
