After Rarity leaves for a Fashion tour Spike has to deal with life without her for a year. And what happens when Rarity returns with a big surprise that will change everything.

Sorry I had to finish this story like this, I recently became a Marine and this story is SOO outdated that it is hard to try to write something that I had intended to be about the show 6 years ago. So much has changed that this story would fall flat if I continued it with the logic of 2013

Crystal Clarity, a pony. Not like any other pony, but a dragon-pony hybrid. She has lived most of her life being teased for being "different" than the others. But, when she discovers a group of friends and one special somepony, her life will change.

After many years of knowing each other, Spike finally decides to tell Rarity of his true feelings for her. But it doesn't go as planned. Can Rarity fix the mistake she has made? Or will she have to live with her decision for the rest of her life, knowing it may well kill Spike?

Rarity and Spike do lunch every week. It's purely platonic, of course. Just two friends meeting to chat over a mid-day meal, somehow always shortly after something noteworthy has happened around town...

After serving a major head injury, Spike has forgotten everything about the recent years. Now it is up to Rarity and the rest of his family to help him get it back.

Who wants to read what's in Celestia's private mail? Spike has a crush on a certain unicorn. This little dragon has grown up under constant literary bombardment, so it's natural for him to write out just why he cares about her. As he grows a little bit older and wiser from his contemplation, he sends a letter to Princess Celestia about his feelings and questions his own bloodline.

=#= Wrote this as an exercise in Spike's perspective on his life in Ponyville. For one thing, how he would have rationalized acting the way he did on the night of the Grand Galloping Galla. For another, how he would have responded psychologically to Rarity saving him when he was on the rampage. Overall though, this was inspired by how a crush matures or declines when one grows up. Good things do not always wither and die, sometimes they have strong roots.

Now with a follow-up story, A Kiss and A Duty.

Spike has always considered Ponyville his home, and has always held Rarity a special place in his heart. That is, until a group of dragons showed up after years of looking for him. After meeting his real family and hearing why he was brought into the ponies' care, he starts to rethink his old thoughts.

Now he only has a week to make a decision: either stay with the ponies who loved and cared for him most of his life, or go with the dragons and finally be with his real family. The decision would have been all so clear...

...if there wasn't another factor in the equation.
