In days long past, the civilizations of the world engaged in long, hard-fought wars lasting decades, and in some cases even centuries. These ancient nations and their enmities have faded into the distant past, leaving behind a legacy of crater-pocked battlefields; forgotten ruins; and highly advanced, animal-like war machines known as Zoids.
In the modern era, the world’s population is divided among far-flung, independent city-states separated by vast stretches of uninhabited territory. These cities are united by satellite communication, trade, and the Zoid Battle Commission. Ambitious leaders gather talented Zoid pilots into teams in order to participate in the Commission’s organized and highly-regulated combat engagements, all in the hopes of winning fame and fortune on the battlefield. Zoid battles have become the most popular form of entertainment in the world, and the services and industries required by Zoid teams drive the economies of whole cities. This is the story of Sunset Shimmer, her friends, and their adventures in the industry of professional Zoid combat.

A small and secretive branch of the Royal Guard, the Nonrational Service exists to locate, contain, and eliminate strange and unusual dangers that threaten the safely of Equestria's population. From exploding cherry seeds to things Pinkie Pie does on a daily basis, if it doesn't make sense, the NRS has to deal with it. Captain Shining Armor leads this unit with a smile on his face, a keen eye for the abnormal, and perhaps more enthusiasm than strictly necessary. This story includes all manner of episodic adventures of the Nonrational Service, most of which continue to defy logical explanation.

Six months after being accepted into Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, Twilight Sparkle concludes that her glorious teacher won't be able to raise the sun, but the unicorn filly and Doctor "Time Turner" Hooves are willing to move Heaven and Earth for the sake of sunrise or a reasonable facsimile. More than a little inspired by Doctor Who and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, hammered out mostly in one sitting due to a desire to write a silly one-shot, given a title which was the first thing that popped into my head when I heard one of the Twilight books was titled 'Breaking Dawn', and being the first work I've written to feature horizontal rules, this is Faking Dawn.

So, I was wondering, as I'm sure many were, why Luna didn't ever turn up during the battle against the changelings. This idea effervesced into my twisted mind to explain her absence. Luna knew exactly what was going to happen, and needed to be in a position to play her part. Sorta-maybe-dark humor. Probably more funny in my head. Also, an excuse to dump random head-canon into text.
And what to do when you have a story you want to post but no picture for it? Why, crop a screen capture!
Update: Not complete after all! Why have Princess Luna troll one villain when she can do so much more?
