Rarity and Luna are insane. Spike has been abducted by cultists. Strange pages from Luna's journal, found in the oddest of places, warn of an impending threat not even Celestia is aware of.

And in the middle of it all is the strange town of Arkham, home of the occult. Can Twilight solve the mystery of the stars, before eldritch forces tear her mind to pieces?

And just what is Concealed in the Fog?

Set six months after the events in The Muse of Madness

First, be sure to go back through and re-read it. There were some spots where the grammar was lacking and there were a few missing words.

Bugger, really? Damn, I went through it about four times. I'll track them down.

Second, the whole diary suddenly appearing plot point seems a little deus ex machina. Lovecraft was all about slow paced discovery with these kind of things, not suddenly having things fall into your lap. It would have been better if the diary had been found among Luna affects, an investigation that would slowly unveil the true horrors of the universe. But this is your story so do as you wish. Just some food for thought.

Trust me, the orignal draft was a lot worse. It had the diary spilling all sorts of secrets out. As for the deus ex machina nature of the diary, Luna enchanted it so that it would appear whole and undamaged before Twilight. Kinda annoyed I left that sentance out. Oh wait, I did put that sentance in. Huh. Can't even remember what I've wrote. So yeah, it was both an intentional and literal deus ex machina.

Hmmm? A Lovecraftian story, I'll add it to my reading pile. I approve of your choice of horror good sir, my complements from one Lovecraft horror writer to another.

Great, now I'm hooked on this Lovecraftian madness xD.

Welcome back, professor! I think I speak for all the faculty when I say that we've missed you terribly. And try as we might, we simply haven't been able to find anyone else to lecture on Paranthropology. The students have been all but rioting for you return.

Thank you

Mwah-ha-ha-ha! My master plan is working!

Never fear, I'll get the students settled. Now, where's my No. 1 Arcanist mug got to?

Intriguing, please continue.

Once again, minor issues but which seem to have been pointed out by my predecessors so there would be no point in listing them.

Once more, up voted and favored.

Well, this doesn't bode at all well. Especially since, even if they could get another bit lucidity out of Rarity, they no longer have the Rainbow Beam of Fix Everything™.

Hmm. I wonder if wearing her Element would've eased her madness? No, surely they would've already tried that... wouldn't they?

In any case, I look forward to the madness. I hope you make some use of Discord. He seems like the closest thing to eldritch abominations in canon; maybe he can fathom them to a degree mortal ponies can't.

2682260
Discord's... Going to be tricky. In the original plan for this story, he was still in stone and Twilight was a unicorn.

Then season three happened.

I'm sure I can figure out something though.

2683699
Hmm. Well, you could always go for the "covenants that were ancient before the first Eohippus was born" angle.

2684261
That is possible...

Either way, I'm fairly sure I threw in a line about how Discord couldn't cure Rarity, so that could lead to something. Yay for unintentional foreshadowing!

2685880
You could always have the star keypad lock be equal to Luna locking the front door to Discords home because she didn't agree with the characters he was inviting over for a business meeting and tea.

Mmm, Discord wouldn't be a problem if chaos wasn't such a good Deus ex Machina. Actually, you could use that. Have him fall for vanity before screaming like a little girl. (Don't think he'd appreciate you forcing that upon him though)

I'd really like to see Discord join the possibly doomed team hero before everything's finished.

2716302
Well, I've got a few ideas on how to handle Discord, but your right, he is a Deus ex Machina. I cna hand wave it with Celestia and Luna by saying there not actually that powerful, but Discord is that powerful.

Which throws everything out of wack.

But yeah, Discord will be appearing mid-late game, and I hope he won't dissapoint.

2716322
Well, madness and chaos go hand in hand. Actually, it could turn into a piece of fridge brilliance where Discord gained his madness/powers/body from entering the presence of the Old Ones. Perhaps he becomes more unstable as the darkness approaches or something like that. Whatever floats your boat.

Otherwise, I see some things of note, but this may be nothing more than me being persnickety. Rarity gaining lucidity at predictable intervals seems the antithesis of the madness, randomness, and chaos Cthonians create. Roll a d100 for that sanity check.

Second, Luna's diary appearing to Twilight. It's been mentioned to you already, so I'll leave it at that.

Third, the foreboding contents of Luna's diary. She clearly knows about the Old Ones, so why didn't she tell Celestia? My only theory to explain this is that they are somehow responsible for Luna's Fall and the memory was wiped when she was cleansed by the Elements. But her diary clearly calls Twilight by name, which she wouldn't do until after she was cleansed. It's only the first chapter so I don't expect too much too fast, but it is a question on my mind.

Fourth, this line:

These beings are cruel and malicious, uncaring of nought but their own power. To them, Ponykind is little more than ants scurrying in the dirt.

If you are using the traditional Lovecraft mythos, the first statement is false, while the second is true. Mythos threats hold neither love nor hate for those with human-level levels of sentience and sapience. We just exist, but are so cosmically insignificant that we aren't even worth the conscious though required to acknowledge our existence. It's sort of like accidentally crushing an ant. Yeah, it happens, but who really cares in the grand scheme of things.

Lastly, this is more of a fanboyish question that would make me squee if it were true, however unlikely I believe such a thing would be in this story. Believe it or not, Conan the Barbarian and the Cthulhu Mythos exist in the same continuity. No, seriously. My question is would any Conan-related material end up here?

2759164
Rarity gaining lucidity at regular intervals is a sign of her sanity returning, not her chaotic insanity. Which she then loses anyway.

Luna's diary, as I said before, is a literal deus ex machina, and is something that's going to pop up a fair bit.

As for what's in the diary... Spoilers :trollestia:

The bit a out the Old Ones being full of hate? That's Luna's personal opinion. She views them as full of malice and hate. It is entirely possible that she is biased. After all, wouldn't ants be scared of all people, regardless of weather or not they had magnifying glasses?

And finally, having never read/watched any Conan related material, it is unlikely at this point. Still, there are a fair few gaps in the plan which could be filled with something, but no promises.
