Good chapter as usual. Twi wasn't too OoC, but personally, I always imagined that if twi were to lose it like that, she'd go super-logical instead of emotional. The end results would be more or less the same tho
Celestia was a whole new level of terrifying, and Twilight was just... well to be honest, considering her lover and future mother of her child was kidnapped, I expected as much. Yeah, this chapter flew by faster than Celestia at light speed, but that's a good thing. It was well paced for an action-heavy chapter, and Twilight was perfectly fine in my book (a little too restrained for me, she went too soft on them)
Now only a few questions remain, like where is the real Cheerilee, what was following Ava and Cheers when they first got to the forest, where is Cheerilee, what is the thing possessing the Diamond Dog up to, where is Cheerilee, will Twi and the gang be able to make it in time, where is Cheerilee, why is Plain Sight MIA, and of course WHERE IS CHEERILEE!
Also I saw this :Dullahan, and though immediately of Durarara!!
Finally it was sad to see Celestia didn't get to go Ark of Covenant on Ava and the other kidnappers.
Well... my only concern is that Twilight seems to be just coming up with abilities out the wazoo. Her reaction was a bit over the top, but 'Cheerliee' is bleeding. Here's hoping the kidnappers get turned back to normal or Twilight may end up being a murderer. Justifiable murderer but I don't really want Twi to be a killer.
Following the line with her eyes from the danish to the cart
She has been using the sensor then you changed to eyes. Figured I would point that out.
Before they could even act, The ponies had laid them flat, without so much as a bruise raised amongst them.
Drop the caps on "The".
She saw Two griffons and three minotaurs in a central hub.
Drop the caps on "Two".
“For the wrongs you have committed today, there can be no forgiveness. Accept your judgment!”
This part makes me think of Judge Dredd.
“Now!” she said when she had regained a semblance of control, “You have precisely ten seconds to tell me what you did with her.” “I don't know-” “WRONG! ANSWER!”
I feel as though you quoted something I should be able to name right here.
Great chapter, as per usual. Twilight seemed to react accordingly, to me. If a little kindly. Can't wait for more.
2059387 Gonna need some gravy on that dish. Griffon is notoriously tough. 2059428 Remember, dressing is fine, but stuffing is evil! 2059508 I always figured that "that" referred to the "screwing around" line. Huh. Also, featured? Finally? Jeez, it only took nine chapters... Still, better than no feature at all, I suppose. 2059521 Well, I went super emotional, because they took away something that she cherished more than life, and fulfills her emotionally, not just intellectually. This event has made her realize just how much they mean to her, and how badly missing any one of them hurts. I think once she calms down, you're going to see the more logical and analytical side of her. 2059524 In the end, Twilight may talk tough, but she's no killer. She'll punish them, but outright killing? She'll try to avoid that if at all possible. Just look at all the mega-threats in the series. Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis, Sombra, All defeated but not dead (at least the ones she directly dealt with). Maybe you'll get to see Celly break a hoof off in someponies' ass later. Also, Dullhans: i38.photobucket.com/albums/e132/whiterabbit75/176730__safe_image-macro_spoiler-s0_zps54917123.png 2059634 As I see it, Twilight had the best grasp on magic and its fundamentals and laws of any pony... and that was before she came to bear the Element of Magic. It doesn't seem to be that far a stretch of the imagination to learn spells ridiculously fast. Also consider that 90% of her free time is spent researching, and since one researches topics that are interesting to them, magic will be at the top of her list.
Consider the episode, "Boastbusters". She was learning how to put a mustache on a creature that normally has no hair whatsoever. Now one could make a case that she was learning from past experiences, so that she could be prepared if she ever came across a situation like in the pilot, where the river serpent had his mustache severed. However, since a situation like that is about as likely to come up again as say, Tank beating all the other pets competing against him in Dash's contest; it could also be said that she just like researching magic for its own sake, has studied so many spells, and has such a good grasp on magic, that she can essentially "pull a spell out of nowhere" at need.
I'm not saying your initial reaction was wrong or bad. I'm just trying to get you into my head a little so you can see where I'm coming from. And no, Twilight will not end up a killer. Not in this story, and not in any story in the conceivable future. Things will work out. Trust in me. 2059667 Grr. Grr! Fear meh! (now imagine a filly Twilight hissing and hopping around like an angry kitten) 2059845 Eeyup. 2059948 Thanks for catching those.
“For the wrongs you have committed today, there can be no forgiveness. Accept your judgment!”
I feel as though you quoted something I should be able to name right here.
So do I. I often do that: accidentally quote something and not even realize it. 2060037 Heh, heh. 2060334 Well, thank... you? Really, I just felt that the moment called for it. Things have a way of getting out of hoof rather quickly sometimes.
Awesome!!! I agree with others, Twilight was entirely too soft on the aggressors. However, seeing her kick so much ass does wonders to my head canon! I demand more!
And the villains are just lucky that Twilight found them and not Celestia. I have a feeling that bring turned to stone is not nearly as bad as say, being incinerated in the full heat and fury of the sun (as much as I dearly, DEARLY wanted it to happen).
Okay a lot is going on and the story's pacing just slammed the accelerator pedal. To keep everything straight for myself I'm going to give Clif's Notes summary
If you have your comments set to newest first and haven't read the story yet then SPOILERS AHEAD:
Twilight now considers Cheerilee, Trixie and Spitfire to be her marefriends and they've all moved in together. An accidental mixing of the magics of one of Twilight's "bedroom playtime" spells and a miscast cloudwalking spell from Trixie has gotten Cheerilee pregnant. To solve the problem of not being able to marry all of her marefriends Twilight has proposed they form a herd instead. The other girls think its a wonderful idea and want her to be the alpha. Celestia while happy for Twilight feels a bit down because the pregnancy strikes home a reminder that she can't have foals of her own. Celestia claims that she loves Twilight like a daughter but Luna thinks that she's not being entirely honest with herself about the nature of her feelings. Meanwhile various gossips and muckrackers are trying to dig up dirt for the Tabloids while Plain Sight and her crew attempt to protect everyone's privacy. Meanwhile, meanwhile a nasty entity that hates Twilight has possessed one of the diamond dogs who kidnapped Rarity in order to obtain revenge. Rover or Black Diamond thinks they're equal partners but the Entity considers him a disposable pawn and deliberately clouds his thoughts to keep him from thinking too hard. Celestia and Luna have sensed the Entity's presence and know what it is but are trying to solve it themselves to give Twilight and friends some much deserved respite. Every hint and clue dropped so far practically screams that the Entity in question is "The Nightmare." But, Wrabbit has been deliberately coy to never name or describe it directly so there is probably a twist of some sort. Black Diamond has hijacked control of a Timber Wolf pack and has been using it to surveillance all of our beloved ponies as well as snatch their personal items for some nefarious purpose. Seemingly unrelated a group of Griffon-Minotaur terrorists are after hostages to make demands of Equestria. A string of lucky coincidences gave them the perfect opportunity to snatch Cheerilee. Celestia has a very bad feeling about Twilight and has gone full on God Mode in order to protect her. But alas just misses her as she's already gone to save Cheerilee. Twilight catches the Terrorists but discovers that someone else snatched Cheerilee from them under their noses and replaced her with a clay golem decoy. Distraught and enraged, Twilight turns all the terrorist's to stone.
As I see it, Twilight had the best grasp on magic and its fundamentals and laws of any pony... and that was before she came to bear the Element of Magic.
In the previous story I thought somebody pointed out that Twilight was wrong in thinking she was the "bearer" of magic.
2060419 Or as Scooby would say, "Roly Rhit, Raggy!" to which I'd add, "Resbians!" 2060454 Moar is to come. 2060469 I can't help but laugh every time I see it. 2060635 You may want to reread last chappie. Or was it the one before? Look for the conversation Celestia and Luna had in the dreamworld. 2060880 Wow, when you put it like that, it's almost like I'm a good writer or something. I hadn't really thought about how far it's all come to get to this point.
Celestia while happy for Twilight feels a bit down because the pregnancy strikes home a reminder that she can't have foals of her own.
Yes and no. There are other, deeper-seated reasons for her melancholy.
Celestia claims that she loves Twilight like a daughter but Luna thinks that she's not being entirely honest with herself about the nature of her feelings.
Again, yes and no. Luna knows that she isn't being entirely honest with her feelings, but more to the point, she isn't dealing with them as she should. This actually ties into your earlier observation, and the reason behind it. You've pretty much gotten the rest of it. I'll only leave you with this:
Every hint and clue dropped so far practically screams that the Entity in question is "The Nightmare." But, Wrabbit has been deliberately coy to never name or describe it directly so there is probably a twist of some sort.
2060978 I need to be quicker with these replies. I keep losing some by taking so long. Anywho, you are correct in your statement. "Bearer" isn't entirely correct when talking about them (at least in this fanon), but it is a convenient way to address their... relationship with each Element. It's like calling tissues Kleenex. You know it's not the right word, but it's convenient, and has almost become synonymous with the thing it represents.
Well, nutsticles.... Now I have to wait to figure out what really happened to cheers. Also, petrification sucks. It's got to be the most humiliating way to lose without actually dying. Damn foalnappers got stoned out their asses and it was well-deserved. I shall now begin with the e-sucking and giving you an awkward e-handy. Cause hopefully that will get another update out by the time I wake up.
Todays chapter was brought to you by the letter A. A stands for AWESOME! The action scenes carried just the right amount of oomph without being overdramatic and the ending made me crave for more so bad it hurts.
This chapter was incredibly gratifying in many ways. I LOVE badass Celestia. Of course, the whole thing with Cheerilee kind of kills the mood a bit. I notice that Ava seems to have spooked the two younger members. Don't think they got the memo that explains that they need to be vicious assholes.
Also, stop posting these when I am at work! I have to wait until I get home to read it! (NOTE: Being a drama queen. Don't feel bad! )
2061193 Yeah, petrification really is the bitch-slap of the all mighty and powerful. Nothing says "you're not worth my time" or "I want you to suffer" quite like it. I'm afraid any e-oral or e-manual is wasted effort, as I most certainly am not the literary equivalent of the Flash. Unless of course, you're a girl. That always helps. 2061317
Lightlesita. Can kill with her voice. Sounds amazing!
2061382 I'm glad you liked it. 2061630 If you read closely, you'll see where it happens. 2061780 Cloudchaser was following her, because she's actually one of Plain Sight's plainclothes worker bees. In other words, it was her job.
2062639 Does the switch happen after "Ava landed in the clearing, gasping and wheezing."? Because that is a bit much too take in. They made this simulacrum and switched her in that short time? And they just so happened to wait right where the Griffon was gonna land? Also the Griffon comments about her weight BEFORE the switch?
That doesn't make sense. Also did the one to direct the wolves also direct the kidnapers?
Finally you could clarify that Celestia was taken to Canterlot, it was a bit distracting.
2062655 Yeah, she's such an adorkable little thing, isn't she? And glad you liked my pony words. 2062698 I never said that you couldn't, just that they won't get the next chappie out any faster. By all means, e-job away. 2062909 Yeah, they'll do that. 2063535 Ooo... so many good questions. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a bit for the answers to those. However, I can clarify your last one. Yes, she was taken to Canterlot. Teleports tend to be disorienting, huh? Sorry if it was confusing. I'll see about making that more clear.
I would like to state for the record that at this point, you updating this story (or any of the others set in this continuity) makes my day as much as a new episode of the series coming out. Bravo.
You know, I like this chapter not only because it was good, but also because it has expanded my head-canon. Namely, the power inhibitor Celestia was wearing. It very nicely explains why Celestia, ancient being that controls the goddamn sun lost to Chrysalis who by all means shouldn't have been able to stand up to her, stolen love energy be damned.
Celestia lost because she was not fighting at full power. She lost because she couldn't fight at full power, because if she had she would have risked torching everyone and everything else around her, including her subjects, which would be absolutely anathema to Celestia.
And Twilight losing her temper and going all Vengeance on the foalnappers was epic.
First, Celestia going all badass Sun Goddess was EPIC but if that wasn't enough you had TWILIGHT go into a freaking Avatar State...... BRILLIANT
that whole scene when she bursts in on the kidnappers and starts declaring their eternal suffering i'm hearing her voice all echo-y and in-stereo like Aang's at the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender ... and it was all like AWESOME .... i wants more Twilight Avatar State and i wants it NOW
Personally I feel that weather or not Twilight acted OoC is irrelevant as there is really no way to predict how anyone will act when the life of a loved one is at stake. That being said the writing for this chapter was incredible. In character arguments aside I'm 120% okay with how Twi handled things.
I...I... HOLY FUCKING SHIT. I must first of all congratulate you, dear author, on inducing a reaction from me I have never EVER felt before: upon imagining Celestia's transformation in the cell I LITERALLY shed tears of awesomeness. That's right, the scene was so awe-inspiring, so magnificent, SO PURELY EPIC that I cried. Just a little, but still. Celestia now scares me. She gone off the deep end.
Twilight, too. I'm now quite worried about what actually happened to dear Cheerilee. Secret swap somewhere? Plain Sight's doing? But then...why would her guards be chasing Cheerilee? On that note: NOOO HIGH HIDE AND CLOUDCHASER!! Please be okay...
Finally, there was a bit of an discontinuity in this chapter that I thought I might point out, and that is Fluttershy.
Twilight's horn began glowing, enveloping all seven of them in a cocoon of light
All seven. This implying, due to the preceding speech, Twilight, Trixie, Spitfire, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy is mentioned later as "having to catch up," but could she really do that without the spell? Unlikely in this reader's opinion. Just thought I'd point that out. I'm curious as to what your intentions were.
I do love it when stories explore the simple idea of what happens when the most powerful Unicorn in all of Equestria is brought to full anger.
The show gave a vague idea (Twi's Rapidash Moment in Feeling Pinkie Keen) that this is fundamentally the single stupidest thing the unprepared could ever hope to do.
I also like the Gorget Power Limiter, much akin to Belldandy's Earrings in Ah! My Goddess. (For much the same reason also, despite being a Goddess of Mercy, she'd break the universe if she isn't careful)
However, Twi strikes me as being still rather calm about it, being able to threaten Ava like that. She always seemed to be more the kind to lose her head when brought to such a point and likely just go the 'biggest hammer' route.
*Blinks* Well... I knew that amazing feats are done under duress when one's mate and impending progeny are threatened. Twilight's gone all, magical juggernaut on the bad guys. But her actions are incredibly believable because of these factors, that one of her herdmates was nabbed by the bad guys, and she (Cheerilee) is pregnant with her foal.
On that note, Celestia should just get honest with herself, and join Twilight's herd, seriously. Is anyone else seeing the undercurrents that I am, or am I just reading too much into it?
Well, I can say for sure that while Twilight has never gone off like this on the show, she's never had somepony this close to her taken from her. Given her personality, and her tendency to have panic attacks, this isn't as far out of character for her as some have posted. And there is a precedent for her getting this mad. In Season 4, she went all alicorn on Tirek after he destroyed the library. So no, IMHO, this isn't out of character for her. A bit extreme, but not out of character.
That first paragraph..... Holy stupid-horse fucking-cum eating-rim job giving-fuckhead of a shitfuck in hell. That is actually my reaction. Because holy shit, what the hell was that amazing bullshittery. I mean, αυτός με συνέχυσε τόσο πολύ, τον οποίο ξέρω ξαφνικά και μπορεί να δακτυλογραφήσει τα ελληνικά.
And then we get to the cave scene. ......I have never been more scared in my life.
2059387 Mmm Griffin with all the fixings
(Joke) Alt. Title: I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)
What's "that"? I dunno. Also, you're featured.
Good chapter as usual. Twi wasn't too OoC, but personally, I always imagined that if twi were to lose it like that, she'd go super-logical instead of emotional. The end results would be more or less the same tho

That doesn't make sense. Also did the one to direct the wolves also direct the kidnapers?
Finally you could clarify that Celestia was taken to Canterlot, it was a bit distracting.
2062655
Yeah, she's such an adorkable little thing, isn't she? And glad you liked my pony words.
2062698
I never said that you couldn't, just that they won't get the next chappie out any faster. By all means, e-job away.
2062909
Yeah, they'll do that.
2063535
Ooo... so many good questions.
Bravo.
2063577 Oho! Onwards to e-jobbing!
All in all, this was a very good chapter.
HOLY FREAKING CRAP
First, Celestia going all badass Sun Goddess was EPIC but if that wasn't enough you had TWILIGHT go into a freaking Avatar State...... BRILLIANT
that whole scene when she bursts in on the kidnappers and starts declaring their eternal suffering i'm hearing her voice all echo-y and in-stereo like Aang's at the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender ... and it was all like AWESOME .... i wants more Twilight Avatar State and i wants it NOW
Oh no, I don't see Twi as being OOC. I can easily see her losing her shit and sentencing someone to a living Hell out of that kind of extreme pique.
Hell, I'd do it.

Avatar was awesome they should have continued it they even set up a new storyline BUT NO they had to screw it up with Korra
Personally I feel that weather or not Twilight acted OoC is irrelevant as there is really no way to predict how anyone will act when the life of a loved one is at stake. That being said the writing for this chapter was incredible. In character arguments aside I'm 120% okay with how Twi handled things.
Twilight...IS A BOSS!
Twilight is angry
Twilight use-HOLY CELECTIA'S FLANK! WHAT IS THAT!
err... Its super effective
Regardless, I really did enjoy this chapter.
The displays of power in this chapter, Twilight's and Celestia's, gives me chills every time. In a good way.
Like I said, rage button engaged. And I quote "It's always the quiet ones"
Peace,
AuthorGenesis
Heh! Celestia's gone full on Movie Optimus Prime!
When you say Twilight never loses it in canon, we must be talking about different Twilights.
Damn twilight, You get get pretty dang scary when needs to be.
