Your friendly neighborhood mechanic / fanfic writer. Don't worry, I'm good at both! :D

T

Lake Superior they say never gives up her dead, when the gales of November come early...

Or does she? The ship and crew that braved the storm went down, what if the crew wound up you-know-where?

A brief little story, based (extremely loosely) on the true story.

First off, I plan to read this in a moment, but I gotta say... this is really one of the last things I'd have expected to see here. Not in a bad way either! I mean, I know the story and the song... geh one of those songs you accidentally end up listening to on the oldies station and it gets stuck in your head all goddamn day. Anyway, I shall commence with the reading!

(edit)
Dude, wow nice job. I can't say for sure if writing about RL disaster victims ending up in Equestria is normally considered alright, but you most certainly give proper respects to it all. In any case I shall be looking forward to the next chapter.

1625278 Thanks dude! And yes, I was concerned about that as well... But like you said, I tried to be as respectful as possible.

You are right, the song does set the mood. I know of the Edmund Fitzgerald, know of the story. watched a special about her on Discovery and History but I'm a Texas I can never really know about the tragedies on the Great Lakes.

So far you have done very well, and I am very impressed in the effort you are putting into this. Ring the bell and let the story be told, let the Mighty Fritz live on with her crew.

It's funny because I live only 22 miles from there...

Well, wouldja look at that. After having just seen a 15 minute video on it and hearing the Gordon Lightfoot song about it somebody makes a story about it. These kinds of coincidences happen to me so much I shouldn't even be surprised.

I love this song! :D Totally gonna read this story later.

"Superior, they said, never gives up her dead."

Horseshoe Bay is kind of southerly, being opposite Baltimare and all, but I still like the premise, and I'll hang around for the next verse.

1626204 Yep!
1626212 Will do!
1626222 From where? Whitefish Bay?
1627895 What're the odds, and you're not even watching me. :pinkiehappy:
1628421 LATER? WHY NOT NAO?!?! jk whenever lol
1628948 Indeed, Horseshoe Bay is southerly... it's not like I was relating the geography :unsuresweetie:
1628985 Will do!

1629227
Please do. Oh and now that I think of it, Equestria has trains and airship. I think the Royal Navy would have steam frigates built. They might not be ironclads but they should have steam power

I actually do plan on reading this later.:pinkiehappy:

1629227 The reason is because somehow, I am so addicted to reading fanfiction that my Read Later list actually contains more than 260 stories. I don't know how long this will take me to reach, I just read in the order of my list, based on what I feel like.

EDIT: It's the fourth story on the list, so this will probably end up being read within the next few hours.

This looks mighty interesting.

Well, this is about the last story premise I ever expected to see.

Damn it, now I have to go listen to the song again.

Ok, this is cool and I can't wait for the next chapter. A lot of HiE stories are mostly bronies or soldiers coming to Equestria. Nice to see something original for a change.

1629304 Neat.
1629328 Meh, that's a possibility. But merchant vessels are probably still outdated. I'm working with the headcanon that Griffons are more technologically advanced, not by a whole lot, but by a bit.
1629759 ...hey I read your new story today...
1630035 260 stories on your read later list, and this is the 4th? How'd that happen? So did you read it yet? :ajsmug:
1631224 Hey, I try. Don't expect it to be long though, I really don't think I'll take it past 3 chapters.
1641284 I'm glad you think so. So uh, hey... you always seem to wind up on my fics... yet you're not watching me... hmm...
1641724 Cool, and it's not my first original HiE, go check out Last Brony if you haven't already.

I had already started the song before I even read the description. Im really excited for this, although i feel bad for you when your gonna have to keep track of every separate man running wild in equestria :rainbowwild:. Also how much sailor lingo are you planning on using?

1642669 Yeah, I read it, and it definitely seems interesting, and I'll be tracking it. I think that the reason why it was so early in the list is because it's ordered by first posted date.

1644841 Not a whole lot of sailor lingo tbh, I'm not very savvy with that. I was actually more concerned with dropping in some 70s lingo. But hey, I'm open to any suggestions.
1646452 Cool. :rainbowkiss:

1646817 cant say i know much though sadly... :ajsleepy:

Wow really good story.
Not much else to say.

Opening is intriguing. Griffons, sailors, steam boats...
Although I personally hoped it will be totally OC story without mane6 interaction.

1660965 1832319 Ty!
1876902 yea... im generally not too fond of oc only stories...

Update this, I wish you would. Has potential, yes.

2045094 It's still in my thoughts, but what I wrote for ch2 I'm gonna throw out. It sucks. But since this Twilicorn thing is going to ravage my unpublished fics, I'm putting priority on them.

2045171
Whatever works for you. I enjoy most of your work, and as such it doesn't make a whole lotta difference to me.

After reading this i got that damn song in my head curs you, you gloryus bastered!

Interesting, may I ask when it'll be updated? And also now that song is stuck in my head, although I'm sure I can rid it with something from Sabaton.

So it seems there is seven survivors all together correct? That's... a somber thought.

Oh well, I may be more into ships from WWI-WWII of the British Royal Navy and the U.S. Navy but all things nautical interest me.

I also take it the Griffons are past the paddle steamer phase and are on the second half of what would be our 19th century. I wonder what they'd think about the Fitz.

YES! This one updated! MOAR! :flutterrage:

2601863 ...and it updates a whole minute after I post that comment. I have impeccable timing. :raritywink:

A bit rushed but since we have been waiting since November I'm ok with that.

2601875 Took me long enough, eh?
2601900 I'd like to think the Griffons are maybe a decade or two past the point where steam propeller boats bacame common. Whereas the GSS Gildash is perhaps 20 years old, being one of the first propeller-powered ships. And the ponies are barely starting to build paddle ships, though they might just start buying ships from the griffons. Except they barely have need for them. They don't really export much and their country is more or less a single solid continent. With the exception of riverboats, they get everywhere by train. <- headcanon. Interesting that you found a nautical story with that name of yours. Sadly, a lot of it is land-based...
2601901 A tad rushed, I guess. Still, that's kinda the idea.

"The young deckhand Pete leaned a little to his left and said quietly to John, "I could get down with that," as he looked at the mayor's assistant."

That was quick.

2603452 What can I say? He's a horny youngster. And it was the 70s!

2603471 Heh. Glad to see an update to this story, I frankly wasn't expecting one. Now I just need to update my story... ugh...

Yay! I've been waiting for this fic to be updated, can't wait for the next chapters.

2602406 Like I said; the later half of what would be our 19th century. Although even though most see the Griffons as more war like than the ponies I'd still wager their weapons are that of our 18th century. (Although in my headcanon they still use spears and swords like the ponies, but they are close to making early matchlocks.) So iron hulled screw driven steamers for the Griffons and wooden hulled paddle steamers for the ponies. I'm okay with that.

Yes I guess my name is a give away to my interests.

Also: "sadly a lot is land-based" awwww, but the sea is so much more fun.

Gud Jawb i dont fucking even care if its made to be fast since its goooooooooooooooooood!

2603581 Yea, lol. Get to work then!
2603929 I'll try to get some done.
2603957 Cool. Meh... I think you'll like the ending.
2604136 Really? Well hell, I'm glad ya like it!

2606158
Meybe just meybe you should try making a more effective long one :P
Also if your looking for OC's later on ask meh :P
P.S. ive been listening to the song you said would go great with it and boy it does and i love it!

2606412 Gee, I wonder why the song fits...

2607640 ragefaces.s3.amazonaws.com/5049c948ae7c70021a000002/you-dont-say.jpeg
You really think im stupid dont you...
But when i said it fit i meant that the mood the beat has makes it fit even more and also i was saying that i was enjoying it but now dude your just being cruel...
Edit:The funny part is brony's are about loving and tolerating and i havnt seen much of that for a while now...

2607827 Wow, I'm just fuckin with ya! :pinkiehappy:

2610284 lol (fix your pic)

Finally picked up this story and I do like it! I still have to read up on the actual story of the Fritz but that can wait. :derpytongue2:
