"Be good to yourself, because nobody else has the power to make you happy."

E

In the aftermath of The Washouts, rebellious former Wonderbolt cadet Lightning Dust is feeling a bit worse for wear. Can a visit from her old colleague Rainbow Dash lift her spirits at all?

Well, let's find out.

SPOILERS for those who haven't seen the latest episodes.

That fourth wall break at the end, genius! Frankly, I was really glad Scoots didn't get hurt and I could imagine Lighting Dust and Dash could be good friends. Anyway, get well soon, Lighting! And even if it was explained, I find Washouts is a strange name for a flyer group.

Great follow-up of the episode! I can imagine Lightning Dust got hospitalized after that!

The ending was hilarious! :rainbowlaugh:

I'll have to come back to this once I've seen "The Washouts" for myself, but this sounds promising.

It is. I'm not going to overhype it at the risk of it disappointing you like "Parental Glideance", but, I think that you'll be very happy with "The Washouts".

I'll have to rewatch the episode in full, but I don't recall Rolling Thunder being a traitor.

Also, minor criticism, but the line is "full body hoof and wing cast drinking through a straw!"
It loses a bit of its comedy value without the full sentence, at leats to me.
Otherwise, this was a great followup

9119800
So do I, in both case. And, thanks for reading. :raritywink:

9119839
Glad you think so. It was intended that way :twistnerd:

9119867
I enjoyed it, but I am looking forward to seeing what you think (of both the episode, and the fic) :rainbowwild:

9119886
Could not agree more. :ajsmug:

9119902
You're welcome, keep up the goood work!

9119890
Edited. And as I said, this is a strictly imagined follow-up, and Thunder Roll doesn't strike me as the kind of pony who'd wait around for long if Lightning was out of action. She seemed to love her stunts. I can imagine her wanting to keep the group going, and if it means usurping Lightning's position... so be it. :moustache:

Good read, as usual.
(P.S. I still argue that Parental Glideance is better than you think it is)

9119914
Well, opinions are like... no, I'm not going to say the rest. Parental Glideance wasn't the worst episode ever, it certain elements of it could've been a lot better. But thanks for commenting, and reading. :duck:

9119919
I guess so.
But seriously, "The Washouts" will probably end up being one of my all time favorite episodes of the series.

9119925
It's a bit early for me to say that, but it's certainly one of my favourites of the season. :scootangel:

9119909
Fair enough...
Hey, that could make for an interesting sequel:
LD confronting her over taking over, only for RD to calm her down.

Just a thought.

JWR

9119932
Indeed. For all of the weak or middling episodes in this season, there have been a lot of gems in it. This, Surf and/or Turf, Horse Play, The Break Up Break Down, Molt Down, The Hearth's Warming Club, and On The Road To Friendship.

Spitfire.....

Once a hothead. Always a hothead.

Lighting Dust.....
Once a reject. Twice a reject. Always pissed

9119936
I'll get on it right away! (joke, but who knows? If there's enough interest... :rainbowdetermined2: )

9119940
You've made this indifferent season seem a bit better by mentioning those episodes. Let's hope there are a few more gems still to come in those that are remaining... :twilightsheepish:

9119949
Maybe.

My personal picks for gems of the season, though, are:
Parent Map, On the Road to Friendship, The Mean Six, Matter of Principals, Molt Down, The Washouts, Hearth's Warming Club, Marks for Effort, School Daze, and Surf and/or Turf.

6 of the remaining nine episodes are good or great.

The only 3 that I'd say are kind of lackluster so far are Break Up Breakdown, Grannies Gone Wild, and Friendship University, with the last one being the one I feel has the least worth.

9119949
Let's hope so, this season may have had a mixed first half, but let's hope that they can end it on a strong note.

9119957
Agree with most of those, but I am especially looking forward to the season finale which from what I've heard (and I'm trying my best to avoid all the major spoilers) should be great. I wonder where it'll be shown first, though? Britain, America, Australia, Timbuktu... :moustache:

9119958
Indeed. As you can see above, I feel exactly the same way. :pinkiehappy:

9119984
Apparently, it's Sweden.
Their Nickelodeon channel is airing the season finale on the 28th.

And now, you're risking the lives of children?

You know, you'd think Equestria would have laws against that. Real world does, after all. I mean, sure, Rainbow didn't press charges, but she's obviously not the only pony who could've, like a certain princess of friendship who was also present for the whole shebang, would undoubtedly know all the legal particulars, and as princess, probably would have the authority to see to it that action's taken, and even if not...she definitely knows a few fellow princesses who could. :ajsmug:

But at the end of the day, I got exactly what I wanted out of this fic--Lightning Dust in a full body wing and hoof cast, drinking through a straw, and Spitfire being right there, giving her the mother of all "I told you sos". :trixieshiftleft: Irony, gotta love it. :rainbowlaugh:

Though, at the same time...the thought does occur to me that even if Lightning recovers full range of motion after this...the injuries are such that it's still quite likely she'll never be able to quite fly the same way again, a potentially big hindrance in her line of work.

...meh, still can't bring myself to feel sorry for her too much. She really did bring it down upon herself.

Now that is a good ending for this episode! Thank you, good story.

Already a fanfic consistent with my theory on the aftermath of the crash :)

That ending was better then I could of hoped. Have this 🌟

Thanks for reading & commenting. :raritystarry:

The ending was pitch-perfect! :rainbowlaugh:

And hey, Lightning, it could always be worse.

You could be living in a van down by the river. XD

"You know, I could easily go to the cops and tell them what you almost did to my favourite foal, but I won't. I figured lying here like a vegetable for a few months is probably punishment enough, especially as it should give you chance to think about what you nearly did. I myself know what it's like to be stuck here bored out of my mane, until I discovered Daring-Do that is. Maybe when you regain the use of your forehooves, I'll pick you up some of her stuff. I realise reading might seem pretty lame , but it's actually really cool if you pick the right books! Which basically means anything that's not non-fiction, with no long and complicated words, in my experience..."

As much as I wanted Lightning Dust to get arrested and go to jail for child endangerment because of what she did to poor Scootaloo, I have to agree with Rainbow Dash here; having to stay in the hospital for a long time is a more appropriate punishment for Lightning Dust because she has a lot to think about (especially the way she treated RD's favorite filly).

A little spoiler warning next time since the episode didn't officially air yet lol.

I was planning to watch the episode on the air date intended but just scrolled down just to see this.

:twilightblush:

I wonder if Lightning will ever live this down or will this only further drive her into a bad place?

9120906 Oops, apologies. I'm a gonna do that right now. :twilightsheepish:

9120923
Hopefully, the former... but we'll see. :moustache:

JWR

Would you consider writing a follow up for "On The Road To Friendship" ?

I... what the fuck?
Fumbling, awkward, unfunny. Who is that and what did they do with Rainbow Dash.
What the shit is this story.

9120146
Or worse: one of those "districts" in Manehattan.

No, because I don't have any good ideas. Apologies!

This could easily be considered dark drama if you think hard enough about Dust's condition.

Finally saw "The Washouts" so now I can give my thoughts on this epilogue fic. Actually pretty nice, glad that Rainbow was willing to let bygones be bygones since Lightning Dust is really in no state to argue (save the legal troubles for when she's out of the hospital at least). And bringing in Spitfire at the end, absolutely brilliant! But poor Lightning is never gonna live it down. :rainbowlaugh:

The 'Full-Body-Wing-And-Hoof-Cast Drinking Through A Straw' Running Gag.

:rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh: That ending was gold. Hmm. As much as I'd love to see Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust bury the hatchet, I don't think Lightning is going to want to after that ending. :rainbowlaugh:

bits dark.

That was a good story.

Because if she could, there's no way this fic would've been rated E.

Lightning: OH [CENSORED] YOU!
