Sketcha-Holic

A goofy little miss that's here to write and draw to her heart's content. Her imagination doesn't know when to shut off.

One word. One word can be all it takes for an author's imagination to go wild. One word opens the possibilities for endless stories of new worlds and grand adventures, a story that could suck the reader in and take them on an unforgettable ride. One word could lead to a thousand, a thousand that could paint a picture, create a person, and explore the world. Yes, one word has the ability to steer us in a beautiful and creative direction.

Or, they could just lead to silly little drabbles like this.

Join Sketcha-Holic as she scribbles down some silly scenes involving some of your favorite ponies inspired by just one word, if only to celebrate the anniversary of her joining of this wonderful website. They won't be world-changing, but they'll make you smile.

:pinkiehappy:BELLY RASSBERRYS:pinkiecrazy:

This was a nice chapter. I liked three things in particular:

(1) - Rarity being the one to draw out Fluttershy. In the series, Fluttershy and Rarity are each others' second best friends, and in at about half the episodes where Fluttershy is drawn out of her shell, it's either by Rarity or by Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy only peeks her head out for really good friends.

(2) - That, while Fluttershy's story was good, it wasn't so utterly-amazing that it blew everyone away. Fluttershy showed talent, but not unbelievable talent -- especially in a relatively inexperienced writer. I could easily see Fluttershy being somewhat good at writing: she's intelligent, imaginative and (my version of her) came from her own strange little corner of the Pegasus upper crust.

(3) - Rarity succeeded in drawing Fluttershy a bit out of her shell -- but not completely. That made your drabble feel more realistic. It's like the way the series develops characters.

Ah, the humble creator's paradox. You want to get your work out there, but you don't want to be obnoxious about plugging it. You want people to see your work, but you worry about what they might say. I can definitely empathize with Fluttershy here. Putting this stuff out for the world to see can be nerve-wracking at the best of times, but it's still worth the risk.

Oh, those evil bastards. :flutterrage:

I wasn't sure if you'd even use this prompt. It's very open-ended. But not only did you run with it, you got me feeling outraged at fictional characters, which is always a good sign. (Also, now I want to see Comedy Gold meet Pinkie and/or Cheese.)

Pinkie Poppins? Well, there are certainly some who would say she's practically perfect in every way.

Heh. Balloons. "Poppins." :trollestia:

That river may not be in Egypt, but Cheese is still deep in denial.

Booooo.

Well, they can't all be winners.

Hope you didn't mind the comment spam. :twilightsheepish:

Until you wrote this I hadn't thought much about Silver Shill, I like the origin you give of his association with the Flim-Flam Brothers. He seemed in the TV episode to be a basically-decent guy who had gotten into a disreputable business and felt increasingly guilty about it as the episode progressed. He was even being voiced with a Jimmy Stewart-esque tone. This drabble is a good canon filler (in fact, all your drabbles in this collection are so far).

Also, to be a "shill" can mean anything from pretending to be a normal customer of the product being promoted, to merely promoting a product. So there's no reason to assume that his or his family's destiny is to be in shady forms of sales; they might just have a talent for sales in general.

This one was just seriously cute. :pinkiehappy:

This is a nice glimpse into the early stages of Flora's friendship with Tommy. And Bluejinx wuld know Tomato better than would anypony else.

Seriously sweet. Cheese needs to watch where he's going, though.

5818094 Yeah, I loved that idea! Pinkie Poppins, indeed! Thanks, Sketch!

5817691 In the series, I'd gotten the impression that Rarity and Fluttershy were each other's best friends, because they had the most in common with each other. I suppose it depends on your definition of best friend. Certainly Rainbow Dash is Fluttershy's oldest friend, and I am sure RD would take a bullet for Fluttershy, but they don't have a lot of common interests, and it doesn't seem like they hang out that often just the two of them, except when Rainbow wants something from Fluttershy (her ability to go to Cloudsdale and cheer, or help make a tornado, etc.) Meanwhile Rarity takes Fluttershy to the spa every week (and probably pays), has her singing with the Ponytones now (though only practice sessions and peferming in front of animals) and apparently has her modeling dresses all the time.

In the end, who is your best friend, the childhood friend who was there for you when you needed them most, and would still drop everything if you really needed it, or the newer friend you have a lot more in common with and spend more time with? If Fluttershy had to give a kidney to save either Rainbow Dash or Rarity, who would she pick? (I don't know the answer to that one).

5821048 I could totally see this as an alt universe fic, with Pumpkin and Pound Cake writing the letter that summons Pinkie.

If you want this choice position
Have a cheery disposition
Rosy cheeks, no warts!
Play games, all sorts
You must be kind, you must be witty
Very sweet and fairly pretty
Take us on outings, give us treats
Sing songs, bring sweets

Yeah, that sure sounds like Pinkie alright. Cup Cake working hard at a serious bakery while Carrot Cake campaigns for Stallions' Rights. And who does Bert, the lanky, cheerful wandering jack-of-all-trades with his own magic and one-man-band thing, remind you of? I'm pretty sure Bert plays the accordion!

5824414 What a GREAT idea. I love it!

He looked at Flora, and was immediately drawn to her eyes. He couldn't quite place it, but he swore he could see a light in them, like a sun in a summer sky, which was bringing back the warmth that he had felt earlier. She was just so inviting, so soft, and so sweet, especially with gentle smile being her eyes' companion. Merely looking at her was making him feel lighter than air. Regardless of what exactly he was feeling and whether he could pinpoint it or not, he certainly wouldn't mind her being another 'home' of his.

I thought you didn't ship these two. :duck:

In any case, a lovely scene. It worked beautifully, and that's speaking as someone completely unfamiliar with Miraculous Ladybug.

(Also, I had no idea that my sister had the same birthday as Weird Al until now. Go figure.)

7008926

Yeah, she's definitely shipping them in that scene.

Doesn't mean they have to wind up together. I doubt that one, one-sided sorta-romantic gaze counts as lifetime committment.

Though I do think they'd work well together.

Tommy's allowed to have a little crush. :trollestia: Though considering how his last crush ended in disaster, he's most likely going to be clamped shut about this one.

7010635

Agreed.

You know, I've been accused of writing my Equestrian culture as too sexually-conservative, because I model it on an idealized version of the Anglo-American attitude toward love and sex of around 1880-1930, mixed with a little Confucian- and Shinto-flavored obsession with family honor among the upper-class characters (balanced by some decadence and sleazines injected deliberately to create character contrasts and cultural imperfections. And I've noticed you do something similar, though with slightly different emphases (with the occasional downright nasty character as well).

But I don't think that in either of our Equestrias does a single longing gaze constitute a mutually irrevocable romantic committent. Especially a one-sided one.

Great, now I'm being affected by the shipping potion!

This story feels really meta.

:pinkiehappy:: I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!

This chapter is basically Twilight asking questions without any real answers before being interrupted by everyday life.
